This fight just proves how shit Barnett really is…15 min to finish off Kondo with a 30kg weight difference and having the full mount for most of the fight!! Roger Gracie subbed him in 2 min from the same position…Gooo Roger!!

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that a world renowned (Gracie at that) jiu jitsu fighter can submit somebody faster than a traditional wrestler. I’d like to see Roger Gracie pull off those suplexes

This fight was a lot more exciting than I remembered it. Kondo is way to small for Barnett and HW. Kondo actually looked good though, he has looked very flat the last few years. Keep in mind people this was a long time ago, after Barnett left the UFC and he hadn’t been active for awhile. And Roger Gracie is one of the best grapplers in the world, plus Kondo has been in a slump for many years now.

I feel sorry watching Kondo these days, the guy was so frickin good back then going up against Josh and beating Semmy Schilt twice. I remember he was regarded so highly that people thought he had the best chance of beating Wanderlei since Sakuraba

this fight doesn’t prove anything about bad about Barnett, Kondo was that good of a fighter back then. The Kondo that fought Roger is like if Igor was still fighting today

If you think Barnett is overrated think about this. Approximately a year before this fight Barnett tko’d Randy Couture.

I think this is more a case of how tough Yuki Kondo really is. He’s way past his prime today, but the guy fought everybody and he was the smaller fighter in every fight he’s been in.

FYI, Kondo was listed at 192 pounds for this fight, so he’d technically be a light heavyweight in UFC or DREAM. Josh weighed in at 251.

Espelho — Roger Gracie is quite a bit bigger than Kondo too… so what’s your point? Barnett dominated this fight, quick submission or not.

someone mentioned how Barnett wouldn’t last vs Fedor. Personally I believe that to be true, not implying that Barnett is a quitter but look at his last fight vs Crocop in the finals of the Pride GP he basically went through the worst part of the beating then tapped

tapped due to an eye poke which didn’t appear to be too severe. He also has a tendency to look away or take his eyes off his opponent during exchanges.(Aleks, Minotauro) That would prove to be fatal vs Fedor.

Some of you need to learn some respect. Kondo is no joke and this was in like 2003, Barnett is a top 10 HW no doubt. And Barnett was taking a beating vs CroCop the third time, he tapped because he got poked in the eye while CroCop was GnPing him so he couldn’t see to defend himself. Barnett is very tough, he had just beaten Nog by desicion in a long fight and then he took ALOT of punishment from CroCop.

And Barnett would beat Randy again. Randy couldn’t compete at HW against the likes of Barnett and Ricco. So Randy moved down to Light Heavyweight. He came back to HW to fight Tim Sylvia, he wouldn’t have come back for Ricco or Barnett. Maybe fat Ricco, but not HW champ Ricco! Ha.

Barnett is one of the greatest fighters in the world and if you don’t believe it check out his record on Sherdog and watch his first fight with Big Nog (epic!).

I believe him to be the only heavyweight AT THIS POINT that would really have a good shot against Fedor. I don’t think he’s as marketable as he could be because of the flab that he either can’t lose or is unwilling to lose.

josh is a very smart fighter and a really nice guy..he shows immediate concern for his opponent whenever he wins. Kondo was a gamer for stepping up to a larger opponent let alone josh barnett…u could tell barnett really enjoyed this fight tho bcuz he was always exchanging comments and smiling throughout the fight
