Meh…. 1st round to Akiyama all the way… they were pretty even on strikes and he had 2 sweet tosses…
2nd round could go either way I think. Shields pressed and peppered with useless jabs, Akiyama had another sweet toss.
3rd round Shields… he pressed and peppered with his useless jabs, got a take down, took the back, made the action. And Akiyama would have gotten some air-miles if he hadn’t of grabbed the fence for dear life. It’s a hard instinct to shake though.
So even if you saw the first 2 for Akiyama, with a point deduction from the 3rd, the very best result would have been a draw.

How obvious it is that the Refs are instructed to separate the fighters when there is 1 min left in hopes of having a crowd pleasing knock-out. See it all the time.

I heard Figueroa had pretty messed up balls after his fight vs Bruce Leroy but we don’t praise Caceras for that.GSP had a busted eye because of a dirty eye poke.There’s nothing to praise Shields about that.He got dominated vs GSP.

The problem with MMA judging is that they use BOXING judges to score the fight!!!

They know little about MMA and are unable to appreciate many aspects of martial arts.

I have said before that they need to use SAMBO judges to score MMA fights since Sambo is the only marital art that closely resembles MMA. The problem of poor judging will not go away otherwise.

Akiyama won 1 and 2 rounds also imo. Even if anyone disagrees it surely wasnt 30-27. anyway it’s official. Shields = most boring fighter in the UFC.

So, I’m curious to know if all the “scrap pack” fans out there that went crazy with their bitching and moaning about Carlos Condit’s “inneffectual” striking are saying the same thing about Jake Shield’s striking after this fight. Condit actually managed to mess up Diaz’ face, but Shields was the only one in this fight who received visible damage. Somehow, I bet they’re all on the “higher number of strikes landed” bandwagon now.

Akiyama wasn’t good last night, his Judo is superb but he’s in defensive mode most of the time and wasn’t committed to attacked.
