how the hell did Shields win a unanimous dec. ( 30 – 27 ) Akiyama clearly won rnds 1 and 2…..f***** judges. someone was suckin shields dick for sure

KungFuLowKick Says, in 2-26-2012 at 02:41:29 from

I had it 29-28 for Shields but I understand giving the 2nd to Shields too. That ref sucks. He sees a low blow, does nothing. He sees Akiyama grab the cage 3 FACKEN TIMES and does nothing but when he decides to do something it’s to break them up when they are grappling and kneeing and punching each other…Bad ref.

jake Says, in 2-26-2012 at 03:09:09 from

I think Akiyama won the first 2 rounds. I realize Jake was throwing a lot more punches, but in the first 2 rounds I wouldn’t consider him the aggressor. And I think Akiyama’s Jodo tossing Jake around like a rag doll was more effective then Jake’s strikes. For at least those firs 2 rounds. Jake definitely won the 3rd.

Great fight and win.

Shields has the most awkward looking strikes in mma.

K-1 Shields strikes again!

Jake won the fight, but he was not at all impressive. Look for Jake to lose again when he steps back up to a higher level of competition.

30-27. hmm

I think the UFC should make Panty Sheilds bulk up so that Hendo can redeem himself.

ATF Says, in 2-26-2012 at 09:31:30 from

That last scramble on the ground probably got shields the victory, but UD 30-27 ?? there is something odd about MMA judging… probably a neverending debate.

thejkj Says, in 2-26-2012 at 09:48:36 from

Hm I think Yishihiro won barely. He stuffed most of Jake’s take downs and landed the harder shots. Plus he had the better take downs. Maybe it should have been a draw at best due to Akiyama grabbing the fence. Just my opinion

gripman Says, in 2-26-2012 at 10:47:35 from

I don’t like Shields, but round by round he won them all. I missed the great power shots that people are saying that Akiyama landed, they were really just a few decent shots to Shields tons of little strikes. The throws were meaningless, but entertaining. They never resulted in good position. Shields was the aggressor, was more active, and had dominant positions. With the fence grabbing and only a few good strikes for 3 rounds, it should have been 30-26.

metalheaddw05 Says, in 2-26-2012 at 11:08:03 from

Shields is the most pitiful fighter in the UFC. He doesn’t deserve to be in the UFC at all. He has HORRIBLE striking, and all he does is telegraph a double leg 50 times every fight until he secures a takedown and attempts a submission. All of his fights are snooze fests. What a joke fighter.

jake Says, in 2-26-2012 at 11:51:32 from

@thejkj I agree. I think Akiyama won rounds 1 and 2 with his harder strikes, take down defense, and judo tosses. And if he had a point deducted for grabbing the fence as well as losing the third, the fight could have been a draw. UD 30-27 doesn’t make sense in my eyes.

SInkTheHooks Says, in 2-26-2012 at 12:38:21 from

Jake is the 2nd best WW in the UFC. He fought after his dad died last fight…GSP went 5 rds with him..GSP had a very screwed up eye after that. Bandwagon mma fans equals crap convo on here

scottc Says, in 2-26-2012 at 13:00:57 from

Shields outworked Akiyama but at no time was Akiyama in danger of getting knocked out by “Stiff as a Board” Shields. Gotta luv those Judo throws they were pretty sweet. Akiyama should have kept that up the whole fight he would have worn Jake down.

Mayhem691 Says, in 2-26-2012 at 14:10:13 from

This was a joke, shields’ striking is flat and useless. Akiyama had at least the first 2 rounds, with his great throws and takedown defense. Gotta love when shields does nothing to win, he walks around like he’s better than everybody else. Give him hendo again, or let koscheck beat his ass. After beating nobody’s in SF he clearly doesn’t belong with the guys in the UFC.

R Says, in 2-26-2012 at 14:46:25 from

Great fight for Shields. His striking sucks, no question. But he was the aggressive one and landed a lot more strikes. Akiyama had two nice trips but, he did NOTHING with them. What good is a takedown, if you do nothing with it. Akiyama is the striker here and he stood in front of Shields like a heavy bag. I thought rnd 1 was the closest and I still think Shields won it. I’m not a Shields fan and I agree with the judges. Akiyama had no offence and no aggression. His output can be summarized by one uppercut and two trips, the latter of which he did nothing with and let Shields get up immediately. Good win for Shields, who needs to spend more time with Richard Perez @ Gracie Fighter to work on that stand-up. … I would also recommend that all Gracie fighters beef up on their wrestling too … all of their double legs are weak.

ttt Says, in 2-26-2012 at 19:18:48 from

Akiyama wasn’t good last night, his Judo is superb but he’s in defensive mode most of the time and wasn’t committed to attacked.

JoeDog Says, in 2-26-2012 at 19:54:22 from

Hard to believe Shields beat Henderson at any time at any weight.

jches Says, in 2-26-2012 at 23:09:11 from

So, I’m curious to know if all the “scrap pack” fans out there that went crazy with their bitching and moaning about Carlos Condit’s “inneffectual” striking are saying the same thing about Jake Shield’s striking after this fight. Condit actually managed to mess up Diaz’ face, but Shields was the only one in this fight who received visible damage. Somehow, I bet they’re all on the “higher number of strikes landed” bandwagon now.

ANON Says, in 2-26-2012 at 23:48:33 from

Akiyama won 1 and 2 rounds also imo. Even if anyone disagrees it surely wasnt 30-27. anyway it’s official. Shields = most boring fighter in the UFC.

straightAhead Says, in 2-27-2012 at 00:01:29 from

The problem with MMA judging is that they use BOXING judges to score the fight!!!

They know little about MMA and are unable to appreciate many aspects of martial arts.

I have said before that they need to use SAMBO judges to score MMA fights since Sambo is the only marital art that closely resembles MMA. The problem of poor judging will not go away otherwise.

KungFuLowKick Says, in 2-27-2012 at 01:07:16 from

I heard Figueroa had pretty messed up balls after his fight vs Bruce Leroy but we don’t praise Caceras for that.GSP had a busted eye because of a dirty eye poke. There’s nothing to praise Shields about that.He got dominated vs GSP.

Shields needs to go back to MW. He looks like crap at WW.

thought Akyama had it personally but I am biased as I hate the ironing board naturre of sheilds striking

Bartman MMA Says, in 3-1-2012 at 03:53:34 from

How obvious it is that the Refs are instructed to separate the fighters when there is 1 min left in hopes of having a crowd pleasing knock-out. See it all the time.

theunderfighter Says, in 3-1-2012 at 22:05:08 from

Meh…. 1st round to Akiyama all the way… they were pretty even on strikes and he had 2 sweet tosses…
2nd round could go either way I think. Shields pressed and peppered with useless jabs, Akiyama had another sweet toss.
3rd round Shields… he pressed and peppered with his useless jabs, got a take down, took the back, made the action. And Akiyama would have gotten some air-miles if he hadn’t of grabbed the fence for dear life. It’s a hard instinct to shake though.
So even if you saw the first 2 for Akiyama, with a point deduction from the 3rd, the very best result would have been a draw.
