Roman Zentsov vs Mike Russow
Round 1
Russow gets a quick takedown to begin the bout. Russow passes from guard to side-control, where he tried for an arm-triangle. Zentsov get lose but is still on the bottom in a north-south position. Russow switches to a neck and arm choke causing Zentsov to tap at the 2:56 mark.
Tatsuya Kawajiri vs Luiz Azeredo
Round 1
Azeredo starts it off with a quick head kick to begin. Kawajiri responded by tripps him to the canvas. Azeredo gets in butterfly guard. Kawajiri throws some punches that land on Azeredo’s head. Kawajiri pounds with hammer fists after Azeredo went for an armbar. Azeredo gets a yellow card for stalling and the fight is stood up. Kawajiri trips him to the canvas. Azeredo gets out from under Kawajiri and mounts his back with both hooks, he tries rear-naked choke but switched to an armbar. Kawajiri instead escaped back to the top position. The first round looked to be a slight edge for Kawajiri.
Round 2
Kawajiri gets the takedown. Azeredo quickly got to his feet. The referee restarts them in the center. Kawajiri landed a hard right hand and took Azeredo to the canvas. Kawajiri is striking from the Brazilian’s open-guard. Kawajiri continues to punch Azeredo. Blood is coming from a cut above the left eye of Azeredo. Kawajiri won the second round also. The three judges all call it for Kawajiri.
Murilo Bustamante vs Makoto Takimoto
Round 1
Takimoto starts with a leg kick. Fighters clinch and action slows. Both fighters were given a yellow card for stalling. Bustamante gets of some punches that land on Takimoto. Takimoto trips Bustamante to the canvas. Bustamante is working on an armbar from the bottom. Takimoto gets out. Bustamante went for another armar and took the top position again. Takimoto shows his back up in defense. Bustamante goes for kneebar but Takimoto frees himself. The get to their feet. Takimoto nails Bustamante but slipped and was taken down. Fight slows. The referee stands the fighters up. They both look tired and poke out week jabs. The first round goes to Bustamante.
Round 2
Bustamante started the final round with a quick punch. Takimoto tried to throw Bustamante, but Bustamante took the top position and half-guard. The referee stands the fighters Takimoto lands a hard punch that floored Bustamante. Takimoto jumped on and started pounding on Bustamante. From side-control, Takimoto pinned Bustamante’s arm and popped his head with punches. Bustamante goes for an armbar. Bustamante takes Takimoto’s back and punches his head. Bustamante looked good in spurts but Takimoto had a coupe of near-stoppages. Takimoto wins a split decision 2-1.
Mitsuhiro Ishida vs Gilbert Melendez
Round 1
Ishida takes Melendez down. Melendez gets to his feet. Ishida lgets in a quick punch. Ishida takes Melendez down again to the canvas. Melendez out and briefly took Ishida’s back. Another takedown from Ishida. Exciting fight so far. Ishida again took Melendez down. Melendez goes for a standing Kimura but gets out. Ishida is controlling Melendez. Melendez tries for another standing Kimura but Ishida drops Melendez to the mat. While Ishida is holding a standing guillotine choke the round comes to an end. First round was for Ishida.
Round 2
Ishida takes it to the canvas to start the second round. Melendez gets a sharp right hand and a knee to the face as Ishida looked for another takedown. Melendez slams Ishida to the canvas. The referee brings the bout to the center of the ring. Melendez gets in a good head shot. Ishida gets a straight armlock from the bottom that has Melendez in trouble. He looked to be hurting but escaped after a few seconds. Ishida is holding Melendez’s left hand and punching him in the head from the bottom. Melendez stands up in Ishida’s guard and lands a right just as the round ends. I would give the match to Ishida. Ishida gets a unanimous decision.
Yoshihiro Akiyama vs Kazuo Misaki
Round 1
They are both just feeling each other out to start the fight. Misaki cracks a low kick. Misaki keeps working the left leg of Akiyama. Akiyama gets in his first punch of the fight but it does little. Misaki kicks the inside of Akiyama’s left leg. Akiyama comes back with a right hand that sent Misaki to the ground. Akiyama jumps on him and took half-guard. Misaki looks to have recovered and jumped to his feet. Misaki gets in a hard right hand and an deadly right high kick to the face of Akiyama. Akiyama is out cold.
Fedor Emelianenko vs Hong Man Choi
Round 1
Fedor charges in and tries a take down but it was the Choi who came out the better. Fedor tries an armbar but Choi fought out and jabbed Fedor with some right hands. Fedor’s face is getting red from the jabs but he pounds Choi with a hard left and is again taken down. Fedor tries for an armbar. He’s got it really deep and Choi taps out. Hasegawa charges in with wild punches but was caught with kick to the body. Sakurai takes Hasegawa down and gets in a few punches. Sakurai gets another takedown. They are back on their feet. Sakurai landed a left and right hand. Hard inside low kick on Hasegawa’s right leg. Sakurai keeps getting the Thai-clinch but can’t hit with the knee strikes. Anouther inside leg kick. Hasegawa is now bleeding from his face. Sakurai lands a knee and a left hand. The round closes. The first goes to Sakurai.
Round 2
Hasegawa comes out swinging and gets in a few punches and a body kick but is taken down by Sakurai. A good uppercut was landed for Sakurai before the takedown. Sakurai is trowing Hasegawa around at will. Sakurai is bleeding from his mouth but no real damage. They just wrestled until the bell. Sakurai looked to be the better man in a boring fight. All three judges give it to Sakurai.Shinya Aoki vs Jung Bu-Kyung
Round 1
Bu-Kyung goes for an armbar to start and that caught Aoki off guard. The hold was deep but Aoki got out. Aoki is giving out some good ground-and-pound.. Aoki again dropped back looking for a heel-hook. Aoki kicked a downed Bu-Kyung twice in the head but the referee did not issue a warning. Bu-kyung goes for another armbar and has it deep. Aoki escaped and went back to guard. Bu-Kyung got poked in the eye but seem O.K. Bu-Kyung drops Aoki with a hard right. Aoki recovers and gets back to his feet. Aoki lands a right hook that sent Bu-Kyung backing up . A lot of action in this first round. I give Bu-Kyung the first.
Round 2
Bu-Kyung’s eye is almost swollen shut but his corner is working on it . Aoki starts the second with a single-leg takedown. Aoki rises up and pops Bu-Kyung with a few left hands. With high mount, Aoki pounds Bu-Kyung with lefts and rights. Bu-Kyung gives up his back. Aoki gets both hooks in. He tries a rear-naked choke but switches for an armbar. Bu-Kyung got out and went to his feet. The last round was mostly Aoki. I would give the fight to Shinya Aoki. The three judges make it unanimous and give it to Aoki.
