I agree, leave the term “mma” out of the sport’s name.
These plastic knife were retarded as s***. People were repeatedly stabbed, ignored it and just punched back, as it hurted more.
Chains and sticks are dangerous, and people could easily die.

Hey, retards and idiots who have made stupid comments, you are all posers. If any of you had ever actually taken an Art then you would know that weapons are PART OF THEM. In Tang Soo Do I had to master at least 2 weapons before I could get my red belt. You don’t just pick them up as a yellow belt. They don’t start until gold/green and without them you can’t advance any further.

Point is, this IS Martial Arts to the truest. Not only did most of these guys have skills, they also have the balls to step in there and prove them.

“Chains and sticks are dangerous, and people could easily die.”

…Exactly the point why they do this. This is not a competition or a combat sport, this is fighting with weapons or going unarmed against one.

Go try it before you judge it, you might be surprised and even learn something new.

jammyman Says, in 10-28-2012 at 05:54:23 from

All these retards saying crap about this video probably just got into the martial arts scene in the last 4 years. Weapons training is part of martial art and it is better to train and spar with a plastic knife than with no weapons training at all.

greengiant Says, in 10-28-2012 at 06:21:25 from

you guys are getting confused.this is more like street fighting with helmets and protection then it is mma.more life like really.

ETK Says, in 10-28-2012 at 06:31:17 from

How would all the so called “fighters” and “warriors” do in a scenario against assailants using these weapons? Think this is dangerous? Realize that this is what could wind up happening in reality, or even worse guns. MMA, boxing, stamina, power, lol. Quite a few sport fighters have been killed by not realizing.

wcoastassassin Says, in 10-28-2012 at 09:24:06 from

Yes there is a lot of skill in weapons. No, we should not be in a crowd watching people beat each other with them

Red_X Says, in 10-28-2012 at 09:44:41 from

Holy F***.
So many newbies on here talking mad s***.
Newbies who don’t know s*** about the Dog Brothers and the way they influenced and helped shape modern martial arts.

PitfighterZ Says, in 10-28-2012 at 11:17:09 from

You can see that they have fighters with very different levels of competence in there. Some are pretty good, some are white belts. So, don’t take the whole thing as one.
Training with weapons is important, but there are serious limitations if you don’t get the right equipment. It’s better to use a marker or anything that leaves a mark than training with plastic knives. It’s more of an eye opener when you realized that the great majority of knife fights ends with both sides dead.
And for people saying this is not MMA, well, it’s not the sport of MMA as you see in the UFC, but it is definitely mixed martial arts. You can clearly see a mix of techniques in this video. It’s like vale-tudo. It may not be a real sport with athletes, but it’s mixed martial arts with real fighters.

MMAgiantsilva Says, in 10-28-2012 at 11:45:44 from

^^^ nope, I have been watching MMA since 1994 and this s*** is ultra f****** stupid if you can not see that you should not call someone a newbie for stating that this s*** is retarded.

Adumb214 Says, in 10-28-2012 at 15:14:42 from

The dog brothers were sick of the pussifaction of martial arts. They had a background in stick fighting and were sick of all the precautions put in place in stick fighting. God forbid if you get hit with a stick and it Hurts. I have participated in some dog brothers training. It use to be part of the US Army combatives level 3 class. The one lesson I learned from it is keep fighting and you can take much more than one would think. Who would I rather get in a fight with one of these guys or a TKD black belt who has never been punched in the face?

bagboy Says, in 10-28-2012 at 16:05:09 from

I trained for years in an MMA environment with some great guys who were tough-as-nails, but also very open-minded. Several were police officers and very aware of the fact that what happens in the cage is often different than what frequently happens on the street. One evening we had a REALLY interesting wake-up call from a guest instructor as we started with some ground fighting. We started out just rolling around, and then I felt something poke me in the ribs and low back (kidney area). From my dominant grappling position, I heard him say, “Game over. You’re now bleeding to death, and even if you “beat” me with a submission, you’re bleeding so much that you’ll never live to get to the hospital.” The guest instructor had pulled a plastic training knife out of his waistband while we were rolling around and began inflicting imaginary stab wounds that would have been fatal. We then did it again with the same results, even though I knew he was going to do it! I couldn’t stop it. One time he pulled me into full guard, and I was confident that I could stop him from getting the knife out of his waistband since I could see his hands. He then pulled my head into his chest to snuff my light striking attempts, and then I felt the poking of the knife again. He had a boot knife rig on his ankle, and with his legs locked around me, it was easy for him to reach around and get the blade. I couldn’t even tell he was doing anything other than holding me close to prevent punches. So he “killed” me again. What we discovered was really disturbing. There were a gazillion positions where he could draw the knife that was either clipped in his pocket or on his waistband, and I’d never see it coming. If I got top position and he was turtled up, he’s grab the knife. If I was on top in side control, he’d grab the knife. If I was mounted, he’d bridge hard so that my hands went above his head and to the ground to catch myself….and boom, he had the knife again and was poking me. Even though I knew he was armed, I couldn’t keep from being stabbed over and over. The rest of us were able to produce the same successful results when our turn came to be the one armed with the knife. What we learned that night was that a guy with very little fighting skill can do serious harm or even kill a skilled martial artist who has spent years honing their techniques, endurance, etc. The difference was that sharp thing called a knife. It was humbling to be so much better at grappling than this guy, yet be shown very clearly that he could stab me to death every time we rolled!!! And you better believe that changed our training mindset.

What the Dog Brothers are doing is NOT stupid. Their focus and goals of training is just different from what you see on TV. Some of them train MMA, and you can see some nice strikes and grappling in the video. But they’re ultimately not so concerned about being good at the SPORT of MMA with all the rules that protect the fighters. Their mindset is more on training for a real, life-threatening scenario, which can be a very different thing. The top MMA fighters might fare very well in a number of real life combat encounters. And some of them might be stabbed to death or bludgeoned to death with a blunt object like a stick. MMA as a sport doesn’t train them for those things. MMA trains for a sporting event with another fighter who agrees to abide by a set of rules. The thug on the street might prefer to give himself an advantage with a blade. He doesn’t care about rules. The Dog Brothers just want to test themselves in a way that MMA competition won’t allow, and if you think that’s “stupid,” “retarded,” or whatever, then you’re really saying that reality training for true, life-threatening combat is stupid. Different people value different things in training. I used to be more sport oriented and loved to grapple endlessly looking for that awesome submission. I still love it in fact!!! But these days as my body has gotten older and my mindset has changed, my training partners know that I will be simulating eye gouges, groin grabs, biting, etc while grappling, because by simulating those things in training, I’m training my mind to remember them in real-life combat with an aggressor who doesn’t care about rules. And fortunately for me, my training partners understand my approach. So while I simulate tearing a hunk of their jugular vein out with my teeth while they are in my guard, we just keep on rolling as if I hadn’t done a thing. Hahaha.

So instead of being demeaning towards them, why not research the Dog Brothers a bit on youtube and see what you can learn. I’m betting that if you keep an open mind, you might find it pretty interesting and eye-opening.

First gut reaction was this is stupid….You can give what would be a critical hit in real life to the helmet and the other just smacks you in the legs/arms dealing more damage.

Only for self-destructive idiots who want a free trip to the hospital

MRBARBARYCOAST Says, in 10-28-2012 at 17:25:55 from

I see that most people have been pretty adamantly divided on their opinions of this video-keep in mind that the absolute best defense in a life and death situation is no rules whatsoever-biting, eye gouging, fish hooking, hair pulling, groin striking, the list goes on, are truly the deciding factors in real life situations-it’s all about developing your primal instincts through practicing as realistically safe as you can

MMAgiantsilva: I doubt you’ve been watching MMA that long. But if you have been then i think its time to step out of your little world of MMA sport and realize that there are other martial arts out there that dont involve just the body alone.

shitface Says, in 10-28-2012 at 20:48:10 from

Dear fan fools,
Yes weapons are part of many martial arts. Some of these people even know how to use them.

Using plastic knifes to stab people while they laught and punch back into yours, is useless and stupid. There are ways to compete with weapons aka fencing, kendo.. This “sport” is a farce.
I do not know what the dog brothers did, but they deserve to loose all earned respect for getting involved in this trash.

Why not use guns and grenades while you are at it would that still be weapons mma?

Christian Says, in 10-29-2012 at 09:48:22 from

As a bouncer and a body guard this actually seems like a good idea. Why not train full contact with weapons to be completely ready for what it will be like? I could only seeing this being useless for police, body guards, and bouncers

rgood Says, in 10-29-2012 at 10:00:22 from

Me and my brother did this in the backyard at least once a week when we were kids but we only had gnarly sticks from the yard. We made it a rule not to hit in the face. The biggest lesson learned was that its easy to hit someone in the hand or the knee. We are lucky we never broke any fingers or knee caps and no one ever got bloodied up.

Tempted Says, in 10-29-2012 at 13:51:29 from

If you have never been in or witnessed first hand, close quarters combat then you might not understand why they fight after the “wounds”. Someone in hand to hand combat is going to keep fighting until they are dead. They don’t just stop because they got hurt. Fighting wounded is better than dying like a coward.

Not only are these guys getting real, hardcore training in, they are also having fun. Just like wrestling or sparring, after you do it so many times it just becomes second nature and instincts take over. What this means is that these guys are far less likely to be killed by a thug robbing them. As wrong as it sounds, nearly every human being will react the same as every other human being when identical situations arrive. What I mean is if you are tripped, you put your hand down to stop the fall. If you take a blow to the back, you spin. These guys have seen it thousands of times in sparring sessions so now they know what’s coming next before the opposition reacts.

Also, like riding a bike, you don’t just forget how to handle a weapon. Once your brain is trained, the rest is all reaction. You can go through the motions based on muscle memory alone.

MMAgiantsilva Says, in 10-29-2012 at 17:22:02 from

jammyman I get what you are saying, I realize MMA varies and is not just limited to no holds barred fighting, this to me seems like childs play and most of all unrealistic. My comment above was more aimed at the gentleman (Red-x) calling people newbs for voicing their displeasure with this. Last I checked this was an mma forum where you discuss your opinion and it is not surprising that many find this pretty silly and dumb.

Kung Fu K9 – Ohh the good old fashioned get in there and look stupid comeback – how clever.

Truth is actually I feel I would handle myself pretty well in there but I would not want to do it TBH it seems silly to me. I dont partake in MMA fighting because I do no particularly enjoy getting hit in the face. I definitely would not enjoy getting hit with a weapon if I did I would play hockey or lacrosse.

TheViciousone Says, in 10-30-2012 at 10:37:19 from

blah blah blah..

That was fukin AWESOME. Anyone who dislikes this cant possibly be a fan of real life fighting scenarios. I mean what was the point of taking martial arts right?

This just demonstrates that even the most skilled can get smashed. In the streets its totally different. Maybe you are all butt hurt at the fact that all those sweaty hours you rub up with men can easily be nullified.lololol

If you dont like this then you never liked org’s like Pride. This got the juicing flowing because its not so damn scripped like the mainstream mma. The s*** you all try and compare this too. I am a HUGE fan of these guys now.

Dont compare this to mainstream mma, its way out of its league.

Its funny because most of the guys here complaining are the same ones complaining about the boring fights you all pay to see, or stream ;)

The Funky FRO Says, in 10-30-2012 at 12:57:26 from

This is garbage. Way too far. Gonna give what we value in MMA a bad name. This isn’t self defence.

RyogaVee Says, in 10-31-2012 at 07:40:14 from

Hello all.

I just stumble don this page. I fight in Dog Brothers and am featured on the video.

First let me put to rest one notion that seems to keep coming up. The knives are NOT plastic. They are dulled metal and fully capable of puncturing the body and causing damage.

Also, Ive noticed a lot of people comment on how fighters still fight after getting stabbed. While its not shown in the video, we do stop fights when one is “dead”. But that all subjective. A knife is a knife and we in most cases treat it as such.

On a side note, at the gatherings, we start the day with a knife fight. Its meant to be an introduction. A warm up.

We use fencing masks pretty much for no other reason than to keep our teeth and eyes in our heads. It does not offer much protection to a full strike from a rattan stick.

Its not for everyone. To some its crazy, brutal and wreck-less. But these are the same comments people had for bare-knuckle boxing, wrestling, MMA and just about any other form of physical contact activity ever created.

Just about all of the fighters are well trained. Varied disciplines in both weapons and empty hand arts.

Fighters choose to fight. Much like asking a girl to dance, its pretty much how you pick your fight. You size a guy up, discuss weapons, and go at it.

Yeah, this is a dangerous activity. But we all know this. Ive broken a few things but keep coming back. no one has ever been lead out on a stretcher. The guy (good friend of mine) who took the chain to the head, actually fount to more times after that injury.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

mirko Says, in 11-4-2012 at 00:27:55 from

This is realy a bunch of crap rednecks with nothing else to do. I cant believe people would call this MMA. They guys look like hillbillies who played one to many video games in their lifetime and in no way shape or form look like MMA fighters.

paddedummy Says, in 11-4-2012 at 22:38:47 from

The thing that this and mma have in common is that they are both fake and useless for actual combat. In mma you have no groin or eye strikes etc., the stance/guard everyone uses makes it easy to eye poke/kick a guy in the junk and when that happens he doubles over and lays down EVERY TIME even though he is wearing a cup or the eye poke is accidental and without any real penetration and the fight would be over EVERY TIME unless the ref gives him a break to recover. In this americanized FMA you know what weapon(s) your opponent has, nobody is throwing blades/shuriken, no surprise attacks. If you know you are going to be fighting with weapons you don’t duel, you put on as much armor as you can, you don’t get your shin split open with a stick when they got soccer pads on sale at Walmart for $20 or to “simulate a real fight with weapons” and then ignore 20 stab wounds to the fencinf mask you are wearing so you can crapple on the ground for 20 minutes before “tapping out” the guy who already “killed you”. I can’t believe that old retard wearing the Viking helmet, Crafty Dog or wtv his name is, still has people wearing only fencing masks when getting hit with thick heavy sticks and even metal chains now! Every guy who bleeds in this video got cut by the inside of his own fencing mask, duh. Oh and let’s have a butchy dyke fighting men! She is getting her ass kicked so if we make it her and a midget against one normal sized guy that will “be more fair” or be a “more realistic simulation”, wtf!? When pople actuallly fought to the death unarmed or with weapons they didn’t train this or mma for a reason, neither of these stupid games should call themselves martial arts because they are both just combat sports for entertainment purposes only
