While you do have a good point ACE he did also defeat the current UFC Light Heavyweight champion Rampage Jackson twice. He also beat Dan Henderson once. I do think he is well past his prime though.

Ace I have to disagree with you. Silva beat Henderson the first time they fought. Did you know that Silva checked himself out of a hospital he stayed in over night with strep throat just before that fight? He could have backed out and he makes no excuses, he’s a true freakin warrior!

Did you see the special K1 rules fight with Silva vs Cro Cop, I don’t know anyone who saw that fight that thinks Silva lost, that fight under the rules was deemed a draw. The loss to Mark Hunt was also very controversial as most felt Silva was robbed in that decision. Both of those mentioned fighters are considered world class heavyweights.

Silva destroyed Quinton Jackson twice, Sakuraba three times, he fought 2 vicious battles with gold medal judoka Hidehiko Yoshida and won both, he’s beaten guys like Guy Mezger, don’t tell me he’s one dimensional and fought nobody.

The problem here is most people haven’t seen him fight in anything other than the UFC and his past two Pride fights.

I’m sad that the guy looks like he’s finished, but if you seen his Pride fights and his fights in Vale Tudo and Meca in Brazil you wouldn’t say he’s one dimensional, that is a problem the UFC has.

Hendo is not great to watch but I think he will give Silva a run for the title. Either way the winner of Silva vs Hendo will face a bigger and stronger Rich “Don’t call me Ace” Hightower, once he puts on the weight that Dana has been begging him to do.

second of all, just because theyre japanese it doesnt make them inferior to everyone else in the world. take Yushin Okami for example. he’s japanese AND he’s beaten the likes of Jason Macdonald and Mike Swick. both of whom are quality fighters in the ufc. Swick being from California and Macdonald being from Alberta, Canada. all ignorance stops in mma.

Seriously “I know MMA,” Hightower’s pathetic. He had one good fight on TUF 6 against a good opponent in George Sotiropolous, but all of his fights up til then and then on the final were pathetic. niv i didn’t he has no balls. i said his game is limited. i just think wandy has no chance in being the champ in the ufc at 205, there are way too many fighters bigger and better than him. wandy was over powered by tito, chuck, and crocop. belfort was too fast for him. if you look at his punches, he mostly throws hooks, that’s why he is getting beaten to the punch a lot of times. he needs to throw more straight punches and low kicks. he might have a chance at 185 though because that division only has anderson silva and now dan henderson to beat.

Ace with all due respect I have to disagree with you on many of your points.

The one I agree on is that he’ll never become light heavyweight champion of the UFC. The only reason for that is that the guy has become one dimensional as he obviously has had one too many wars and his career is done.

I just finished watching Pride Hardcore Knockouts Vol.1, there is no way this is the same guy that is fighting today. He used to strike hard and fast, he set up many of his punches with leading high kicks to the head, or low leg kicks. Once he whacked you with some punches he’d clinch and throw knees like there’s no tomorrow. I agree his punching style is loopy and unorthodox, but he brings great hand speed and power with it.

As for his losses in the UFC, well I saw the Vitor Belfort loss and I thought that 90% of those punches missed and shouldn’t have been stopped so quickly. In his loss to Tito he couldn’t put Tito away in the second round when he hurt the guy, and his weakness without a doubt is his ground game when he’s on the bottom. I also believe his all out style is better suited to the Pride ring as that’s where the strikers can excel as opposed to the octagon which favours wrestlers.

As for your discounting Sakuraba as a great fighter I find that ridiculous. The guy is the only guy to have fought and submitted 4 Gracie’s including Royce in a one hour fight. He also submitted Quinton Jackson who steamrolled through everyone they threw at him in Pride, with the notable exceptions of Shogun Rua, and Wanderlei Silva twice. The other guy you discount is Yoshida a Gold Medal Olympian in Judo. The guy is a bull, and when he debuted in Pride he fought Don Frye. Before the fight Frye stated over and over again he’s going to break Yoshida’s arm. When the fight was over Frye was writhing in pain holding an arm that I believe was broken, please look carefully at the talent that fought in Pride. The best in the world were there, many former heavyweight UFC champions all went there such as Mark Coleman and Kevin Randleman, they had very little success there, not a sign of weak competition.

There are planty of fighters that train the same way for so long.. that ieventually they limit their training to was has worked in the past… eventually becoming one dimensional, I doubt wandi works on his ground game… I know for a fact he doesn’t have a black belt in BJJ, but with his style he knew that more often than not.. the fight would end in a KO, some one was gonna get knocked out, plus he could sprawl and avoid a take down, like Cro-cop….
