Friday UFC president Dana White announced that he has signed ex-Pride fighting champion Wanderlei Silva to a contract.
The Axe Murderer began his career over 10 years ago fighting in Brazil. His first fight with the UFC was in 1998 against Vitor Belfort. He has been fighting with the Pride organization since 1999 where he won the middleweight championship.
At the announcement of the signing Silva said, “I’m gonna work hard to give a great show for the fans and I want to thank God for this opportunity. I want to issue a warning to the other fighters out there: you need to train hard, because ‘The Axe Murderer’ is here.”
Wanderlei Silva is expected to return to the Octagon in December for his first fight.
