BrendanYou will never see a lot of strikers in the UFC

Tell that to GSP OR Chuck Liddell. You're right about K-1 and Pride having more striking. Mostly because it is very hard to wrestle in a ring. Right now I see many fighters having a perfect mix of ground work and striking.

You need to expand your knowledge of the MMA world SMACK.

You will never see a lot of strikers in the UFC as the rules/cage aren't set up for strikers but for wrestlers.Having what is nearly a round ring stops you from cutting off someone not looking to strike and the no kicks/knees to grounded opponents take away a lot of a strikers ground game.

Kickboxing/karate dominate stand up fighting like K-1 as this is what these martial arts are about as they teach only the basics in ground fighting. There is no better martial art than these two for power striking.

C'mon guys... Lighten up. I cant believe you guys are even discussing what would happen if the likes of Bruce Lee stepped into the ring.

Alot of you blokes have missed the point of this documentary and technique all together. The one inch punch is purely an example of "chi" and the damage that a minimal distance strike can do.

Its effectiveness in MMA and the fighting ability of the Martial Arts Movie stars is totally irrelevant and its idiotic to think that the one inch punch or any martial arts movie star work in MMA.

Just appreciate the technique for what it is. Why must so many people over analyze these things...

The best example of an extremely powerful short punch is the young Mike Tyson's left hook. Not quite the demo'ed "1 inch punch" but definitely from closer range than jab or cross or superman punch, etc. with incredible whole body power behind it making a seemingly short distance of hand traveled (from cocked fist to jaw) disproportionately powerful. Really the exact same thing. It may be difficult to pull of the exact motion Bruce demo'ed but obviously a top boxer in his prime could pull off something related - again and again. Go watch the old Tyson highlights.

Hi everybody.

The so called 1-inch punch how it is shown here is just a ideal way of practicing it, it is not the way you would use it in a fight because as ayou could see there is much preparation going on even by the masters before executing it :)

No, in WingTsun for example there are variations of that punch that are delivered to distinct points like liver, solaplexus, larynx etc. in positions were it is dangerous to take the hand away from the opponent (loose the contact). It is then mostly done with the palm of the hand. I hope nobody thinks this would take a good fighter out. It is just a useful 'tool' to make a quick distraction and finish the combination with a nice hook or elbow.
