the commentators were pretty biased there, Curran fought a great fight and didn’t exactly have his “world rocked” by Faber.

Also, pretty embarrassing for Urijah’s cornerman at the end. How hard is it to lift a 145lb guy?

There was a bit of a love fest session going on for Faber, but the kid is good. How do you beat him?

And yes, the trainer trying to pick him up at the end looked ridiculous — then pretended he was just trying to take him down.

yeah the commentary was completely for faber, curran dominated the first round and 30 seconds left their like lets see if the champ can take this round with a flurry. pssh, curran totally owned him, till he got submitted ofcourse.

I think if Curran hadn’t tried so hard for the rear naked choke, he would have won. If he had tried to go for an arm or something in the position, but all he had in his head was a rear naked choke. He tried so hard, that Faber worked his way out. Too bad, if he had a bit more creativity, most likely he would have won. Creativity my friends… a trait for greatness. Oh I don’t want to take anything away from Curran, but simply riding the guy’s back for 3 minutes doesn’t mean he is owning the round. The punches weren’t landing, they were being blocked. This is the first time I have seen Faber fight so I’m not riding his jock. But how do you train to fight someone that is so creative?…

I’ve seen bout 5 fights of Faber. And all I can say is he has no technique or what so ever. His basic striking is bad and his basic jiu-jitsu is inexisting. There are at least bout 10 gusy in america and 50 in Japan who beat him easily. His just a strong kid with good wrestling who acts only on instinct. Urijha Faber is not a good fighter.

Drew Says, in 12-14-2007 at 12:13:37 from 24.150.124.185

Benitoboogie, what planet are you on? His jiu jitsu isn’t good? First of all, he just submitted a jiu jitsu blackbelt. Second of all, Curran had his back for the better part of three minutes and wasn’t even close to finishing him.

His striking and wrestling are excellent and he has cardio for days. What exactly is his weakness? I’m not jumping on his nuts, but when a guy has only lost once, you have to give him some props. 50 guys in Japan who could beat him is an absurd statement.

Benitoboogie, I don’t agree…Faber’s dangerous because you just don’t know what to expect or how to prepare for him since he can just create some shit that will mess your plans…he take risks and eventually will be caught…maybe Pulver can do it, I don’t know…

What the hell is up with the commentating? Completely fucking biased. Even when Curran had the upper hand, they’d keep talking about how relaxed Faber was.

To Benitoboogie: Every martial arts sensei asks their students the same question, “in a fight between a black belt and a brown belt, who wins?” The answer is always the same, “the better fighter.” You can knock Urijah’s pedigree, but you can’t dispute that amongst men who enter the cage, he always has more tanacity, speed, and strength. And that’s what makes him the better fighter.

Give me a break here,
The kid has his good. He has a weaker side stand up all his fights con not hold and stand up. But in that division all that he competes no one could have an excellent stand up.
In Japan could be one 10 guys that could beat him, EASYLY? I don’t think so! In America, in that division 145 let’s me see. probaly BJ Penn at his age and when he was 145….

The boy is just pure evil, I hate him, because I think there are two guys that already fight against him, that could beat him, but He is for read now the champ. I received all my credits.

RILEY Says, in 12-15-2007 at 20:49:43 from 67.182.126.116

the only reason you hate him is because he’s so good. you said that he already fought two people that you think could beat him, but anyone can beat anyone with a lucky shot or on an off day. obviously though, they couldnt beat him, because they didnt. the facts are in his record and watching his fights. the commentary was truthful. not very many fighters can remain calm when someone has their back and stay composed; especially when its a blackbelt. but he still won, fair and square, curran tapped out, just like many of his other opponents. you cant say hes not good, when clearly he is. you can hate him, but dont make yourself look foolish by saying he doesnt deserve it or doesnt have the skills. he’s one of the most creative fighters in the WEC and that is what makes him so dangerous; conventional or not, hes evolving the art and the sport.

I have to agree with those who are praising Urijah. The key for him is strength and quickness. Curran would have choked out many other guys in that first round, but Faber is almost able to predict his opponent’s next move based on feel. He seems to be one step ahead. He is also built like a brick $hithouse and this helps. He reminds of the great NFL halfbacks like Barry Sanders. Built thick and low to the ground, cat quick, tenacious. The moment he is about to get in trouble in the cage, he quickly gets on the offensive.

whoever comes more prepared has a better chance. not to be on his nuts, but Faber always comes prepared, really though. this guy’s a beast right now. it will be sad the day he loses his title.

The only fighter in US that can compete with Faber is Tyson Griffin. I think it will be very interesting fight between them, because
they are both improved.
Faber also developed good power punches in his both hands and his stand up really improved.

For you “wana be experts” I tell you this: If you think Faber doesn’t deserve his title you just don’t understand anything about MMA and just want to show off how much you know, because you lucking on that. You will see that pulver will not be able to stand up for long with Faber.

I think Curran showed that you can beat Faber by controlling his elbows for as long as possible, and how to accomplish that I dunno.

“There is a vast difference in how often belt progression takes place, and the requirements for the progression. More traditional schools and especially Gracie-affiliated schools believe that black belt cannot be achieved in under 8 to 10 years” directly from wikipedia this kid has beat 4 times more people then Faber has even fought sounds like a pretty good test of a 5 time defending Champion to me but you guys are never happy till he kicks rampage silva wandy chuck and fedor this kid is 145 and unstoppable choking out a bjj black belt with no formal background makes you a good fighter

I hate these retards that claim Urijah has no technique – I’m fairly certain no one posting here has ever even rolled, let alone know anything about technique – Urijah is one of the most technical submission grapplers out there – DUDE WENT TO ABU DHABI AND WON A MATCH. He didn’t win in his division, but even winning a match at ADCC is a testament to skill.

Last thing:

As of right now, his striking is excellent. Just because he doesn’t look like a top tier boxer doesn’t mean he doesn’t have skills – MMA striking isn’t the same thing.
