@Dirty Yt Boy: You just made my case for me. Only fighters who go out of their way to get extra income make a quasi-decent salary per year with a lot of costs involved, which you forgot to mention. Try opening your own gym when you fight for Strikeforce or even Bellator. even if you are a UFC fighter, you might not get much sponsorship (remember that sponsorship for most fighters means food, gym costs, and training equipment). Only the top of the top can get anything near 5 digits in sponsorship.
Just go ask in any MMA gyms how many fighters they have that can afford a car, gas, or even a roof. Most fighters need 2 jobs to pay the bills and they usually work for the gym in exchange of training. Go knock on some doors, go live the life, and then you come back and tell me to open my eyes. I’ve been there. And when I was there, $600 was a freaking awesome pay.

You guys know nothing about boxing,MMA and money.Top boxers make more money then any MMA fighters.Even Silva and GSP.Any boxer who fights for top boxing promotions get paid to train and they get alot bigger paydays from fights.And Dirty that comment on sponsors is RETARDED.Boxers too have money from sponsors.UFC doesnt pay s***.Every guys on the Facebook preliminary card get paid 3-6k MAXIMUM from the UFC.Of course they will have money from sponsors how else will they eat??But I don’t even see the point in trying to make you guys understnad that.It’s like if you guys were convinced the average African family made more money then the avergae American family.It’s completly delusional.

I train and enjoy watching mma. And were I a guy in the culinary, I’d still love the UFC product (I like drugs too!) but I wouldn’t be so naive as to think that it’s bullshit my union is standing up to them for what they are doing in their OTHER businesses (the one they already make fortunes off of) just because I liked their UFC product. But as I’ve said, I’m not too confident any of the union guys thanking Dana are smarter than you, so it’s a valiant effort that will ultimately backfire. Now relax and get back to watching TV!

when you say the undercard fighters getting less than 5k in a ufc event….. think about it. even if the check says 2500$ or whatever. think of how much he got behind the publics eyes. sponsorships are huge money (nike-silva) you don’t see a disclosure saying what he makes for that. prolly a s*** load. not to mention that the fighters recieve money to train between fights depending on thier contract, full medical, all the travel and hotels are all covered. come on. I would assume even a unaired undercard fighter still will make 50K a year doing 3 fights under the ufc banner. Plus, alot of the veterans are running or owning thier own gyms. i’m sure they don’t let people walk in there and train for free. And when they are doing the seminars and p r stuff they are getting paid. the fight purse is only a portion of what they make in a year. Just thought i’d try to open your eyes to a different perspective on the money game.

Dana may not be the most eloquent speaker or the most positive role model for the UFC but sometimes he does make sense.
