Updated – Nick Diaz Tests Positive For Marijuana After UFC 143 – According to Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer, Diaz tested positive for marijuana metabolites following his controversial five-round clash with former WEC titleholder Condit at this past weekend’s UFC 143 event.
An email was sent out from the NSAC commission to members of the MMA media today.

Thank you for the many email and phone calls. I am still waiting for all the steroid and drug test results to come back. We did have at least one positive test. I will send out an email later today on that matter.

There were rumors based around a Gracie camp fighter yesterday but a true announcement will be made after all the fighter’s results are in. I will update when new news is available.

Whether Marijuana is legal, illegal, accepted, or not accepted it is still against the rules for “professional” fighters to smoke it.

Diaz is in the wrong all the way around. He is a professional fighter. He should be professional enough to pass tests. He has several months in between fights to smoke the pot.

I think people are getting a little hung up on the semantics of “illegal substance” – it isn’t “illegal” in the sense of the law, its “illegal” in the sense that a professional fighter is not allowed to use it. Just like alcohol, steroids, various pain-killers etc.

So, while getting into a huge internet debate about legalization of pot is always fun… its a little irrelevant to this finding.
