Amazing, love the way Royce just walked all over them…. specially cocky ass Shamrock…. 178 pounds vs. 220…and you cant say Shamrock didnt know how to fight on the ground… true master

TheDudeInTheBack Says, in 9-17-2012 at 13:36:52 from

Absolutely epic. This is what the UFC is all about. Warriors not backing down no matter what. Broken wrists didnt faze these guys. It didnt matter how big or who your opponents were it was about heart and the desire to win. Just like Gracie said “its not about the money” Its a shame that our LHW champ cares more about his legacy and bank balance than honour and the pride of fighting. Evolution sucks sometime.

Classic…I love how the dingleberry announcer Bill Wallace chokes on his own spit at the beginning. “Good evening and welcome to McNichols…arougoufh!…”

Royce gracie legend? buttheads to the back of the head and the oponent tapping and royce not letting go? disgrace and embarecement.

TheGuyInTheBack Says, in 9-17-2012 at 18:47:50 from

nuno@ maybe you should actually try paying attention to the fact that at that time there was no rules which it clearly stated. This means everything from headbutts to head stomps were allowed. And did you not see the semi final where Shamrock blatantly tapped but the inept referee didnt notice. Lets just say that the referees back then werent up to todays standards thats why Royce had to make sure in the final. If your gonna blame anyone blame the shoddy referee.

TheKungFuLowKick Says, in 9-17-2012 at 18:48:11 from

He did not let go because Gerard bit his ear in the fight. Also in that time people were completly unaware of submissions. So if Royce lets go of the submission and the ref doesn’t see the tap,the fight is not over. And judging by the commentators and the reaction time of the ref, nobody knew what Royce was doing.

TheKungFuLowKick Says, in 9-17-2012 at 18:51:41 from

BTW it’s a headbutt, not a buttheads. And they were completly legal so why would you not use headbutts when you have the opportunity?I think biting somebody is a bigger embarassment then headbutting…It’s even a bigger embarassment then calling headbutts buttheads.

You can’t judge UFC 1 by today’s standards. UFC back then was just an overly glorified vale-tudo championship (which for me was awesome!). There’s very little left in the UFC from that time. After they made weight categories and invented rules, everything changed. It became a sport, not a fighting contest.
Back then, kicks and punches to the balls were perfectly fine. Stomping on someone’s spine? Awesome! Soccer kicks to the back of the head? Sure! The only two rules were no eye gauging and no… what the hell. There was only one rule. :)
It was a great time. I twas a terrifying time. I love both vale-tudo and MMA, but they are VERY different things.

Is it me, or Gerard Gordeau did 4 Nazi salute when he came in the cage?

I’ve seen this when it came out and never caught it back then.

Everyone remember how they felt when they saw this?

Saw it a few times when it first took place … wasn’t sure what it was … totally random when I saw it. But I knew that skinny Brazilian kid was kicking everybody’s a$$. And I remember thinking: Oh sh1t! A real Fvcking Bruce Lee.

Zacky Says, in 9-17-2012 at 21:23:54 from

Oh Sh1t … This is great.

Just got to the Tall guy kicking the 400 pound sumo guy in the face.

The the White guy that looks like a mean troll that lived on the bridge, foot stomping the Black dude in the head.

Art Jimmerson and his boxing glove…

Zacky Says, in 9-17-2012 at 21:30:05 from

You know you’re screwed when you have Royce Gracie on top of you and you’re wearing 1 boxing glove.

#1 Jackal Says, in 9-17-2012 at 21:49:35 from

There use to be a mock video of superfoot bill wallace f****** up all of the commentary. Like calling it the Ultimate fighting challenge, burping into the microphone for the opening sentence, calling fighters a “boxer person” and keeping track of how many times he pronounces teila tuli in differnt ways.
I cant find that video but if you can find it, it is pure ol’ skool gold.

That sumo Guy that got kicked in the face is now acting in Hawaii Five-O.
