i feel like i’m 14 again! thanks for the post bruno. i remember watchin this with my cuz the first time it aired ..we were so hyped for this event. you can imagine the perception at that time when we were watching movies like bloodsport…thinking the 1st ufc was going to be something like that w/ the different disciplines going head to head. it really is a trip to see the beginnings of mma to the mma we see now.

I found some of the people in the crowed so disrespectful when they booed Helio gracie besides being a legend they should have respected the fact he was an older person. I can’t stand people that boo fighters.
amazing how a 170lb Gracie went through heavy weight guys like nothing.
what an amazing moment for the gracie family right there the start of their recognition by others

Royce was great back in the day but sports evolved gone past just BJJ.

1993. I was 12 yrs old. My parents rented it on PPV for me and me buddy Ryan (we were both wrestlers, I also trained Karate)1 and they headed to the bar. Me and Ryan had no idea what we were watching. I saw a tooth fly out of the ring. We kept thinking where are the ninjas? A lot has changed since then. Ryan lost his mind on roids, killed a whole family and wound up in prison. I’m getting old and focusing on my career.

I was so hyped for this event. I bought every issue of Black Belt magazine up until that point for years, having studied Karate, Tae Kwon Do and wrestling. They did a huge article with fighter Bios. It was great! Finally, the event occurred and it was a real treat to see Bill “Superfoot” Wallace and Kathy Long commentate. They were legends at the time. In retrospect their commentating left something to be desired but again there was no blueprint. UFC 2 was one of my favorites. Some of the bouts never made the PPV which I’ve always wanted to see.
Bruno, anyway to see Orlando Weit’s entire bout vs the kickboxer when he won with downward elbow strikes to the back of the head?
