This was one of the better fights last night. I liked this event besides the over hyped Brock fight. This is real UFC talent at it’s best. I for one was thankful to see this match.

what a bad call. gleison took him down, controlled him in the clinch, nuetralized his stand up. gleison won that fight. besides that, anyone who anything know that griffin wasnt running to his corner and running around the ring due to his protein shakes. he looked like he could go another 5 rounds. I have respect for the UFC, but i cannot agree with this outcome.

I thought I had watched a different fight when I saw the outcome. How all 3 judges scored this unanimously for Griffin is beyond me.

Tyson was more aggressive, got the better of the stand-up by far, and controlled the center of the octagon. Gleison didn’t get more than 5 good punches in from Griffin’s guard, and that’s when he held him down at all. No submission attempts whatsoever. Awesome scrambles by Griffin, as well. Easy decision, glad it was unanimous.

that was TECHNICALLY Tibeau’s fight..

i know at times Tyson was killing the standup.. but Gleison took him down in each round.. those points should have won him the fight..

horrible judging in my opinion.

I have to agree with DC Griffin definately won the stand up and as far as take downs go… yes Tibau got all the takedowns but a takedown is like a jab, a jab is only meant to set up a power shot it does little to no damage, a takedown is to set up for a submission or some good ole ground and pound and Tibea did nothing on the ground. They both pushed the pace, Griffin landed the better shots and did the most damage put in the the leg kicks and you have a clear cut winner. Griffin by unanimous decision

I don’t know how you could argue it SHOULDN’T have been a unanimous decision win for Griffin. What did Tibau do exactly? He was clearly on the losing end of the stand-up battle for at least the first two rounds and arguably the third. Sure, he scored a couple takedowns but what did he do with them? Virtually no ground and pound and no submission attempts at all. Most of the takedowns resulted in Griffin scrambling right back to his feet. Griffin had the much crisper and more damaging striking and he deserved the UD.

What a sack of horsesh*t! Mazzagati, who for one shot to the head of a man that got hit there cuz he was turning away, took a point from Brock Lesnar, in an earlier fight let this dude in white whack his opponent like 8 times and only warned him for it!

Mazzagati turned the tide of that match by interfering blatantly in it. I mean look at it, when he told them from the begining “have a clean fight” he looked directly and disapprovingly at Lesnar. Mazzagati should be fined & suspended, or just fired for blatantly displaying his bias in the Lesnar, Mir match.

My friends and I all called it. When what you are SEEING is a good close fight and what you are HEARING are the announcers kissing one fighter’s ass and talking like it’s the beating of the century, you know what that means. UFC is growing themselves another poster child. The standup and aggression could have gone either way, but Gleisen took the grappling and cage control by a landslide. Of course this was not nearly as blatant as Hammell-Bisping, but it was still obvious to me who the UFC wanted to win that fight.

More aggression came from Tyson, The other bloke took him down a few times but then did absolutely nothing about it. The decision was correct!

Drew Says, in 2-4-2008 at 21:34:32 from 24.150.124.185

Tibau took the grappling and cage control?? That’s not what I saw. Griffin seemed to be the aggressor on the feet and landed the more frequent, cleaner, and more effective strikes. Tibau was able to secure about 4 takedowns, two of which Griffin stood right back up, the other two he eventually scrambled back up with absolutely no submission attempt and very negligible ground and pound from Tibau. I just don’t see any reason AT ALL to give the nod to Tibau in this fight. I don’t think he brings a whole lot to the table to threaten any of the top contenders in either the LW or WW division. He’s good, not great.

all of you guys that think tibau came even close to winning that fight dont have any concept of how to score a fight. Griffin is no longer an up and comer he is the real deal and he just proved it.

I agree 100% with THIZZLEB and a few others but to me it just seems like most of you are Griffin haters! Tyson clearly won the fight! Tibau scored with his takedowns but Tyson dominated every other aspect of the fight. Other than the takedowns that Tyson easily stood up from what did Tibau do? Griffin is top 5 now in the lightweight division in my opinion and with 1 or 2 more victories possibly against Huerta and another big name Tyson will be fighting for the title.

Tyson’s stand up was WAY better and he landed a lot more shots, controlled the center of the octagon, and got right back up after each takedown. Definitley a good call by the judges. Judges notice when you take a person down and then don’t utilize your skills properly to do anything afterwards. And Diaz is no where near the level of Griffin… he would get handled.

how the hell do some of u think tibau won, tibau lost all the exchanges and hardly did any damage on the ground, losing posistion more than scoring points with ground and pound

mygif_alt
Sean Wooldridge Says, in 2-6-2008 at 09:17:26 from 72.86.99.169

I kept hearing Joe Rogan go on and on about Griffen’s “pinpoint striking” when all he was really doing was broadcasting that right haymaker and missing EVERY time. You don’t get points for getting up after getting taken down. Tibau was working to improve his position on the ground. That can cause openings. If your opponent uses the opening to get back up, all you can do is take him down again, which he did. Would it have been better for him to just bury his nose in Griffen’s stomach a la Shamrock/Gracie and ride out the round? He would have won and easy decision that way. Is that what you guys want?

Anyway, you can argue a subjective decision all day long. My point is that the announcers were in awe of Griffen’s performance when there was nothing awesome about it. He avoided getting submitted on the ground and squeezed out a narrow victory on his feet comprised mostly of weak leg kicks and wild swinging.

Yes, Griffin dominated the stand-up, but he was poor in the clinch and never really hurt Gleison, who repeatedly took him down. Given that neither man had the other in serious trouble, and that takedowns score points in and of themselves, I think a draw would’ve been a fairer result.

Dash Says, in 2-7-2008 at 01:25:25 from 24.5.231.55

Who ever’s hating on tyson here obviously has never been in any real physical altercation. All these fools are probably over weight nobody’s who ordered the fight on their mom’s comcast bill and ate a chicken wing for every take down. Go get some excercise and learn to represent yourself as an intelligent human being.
Tyson clearly said before the fight he wanted to try to knock Tibau out and utilize his stand up game. We have all seen him run the ground game and submit people. I respect a fighter more who can change their style and set the tempo in the fight. Did he go for any take downs? no. Thats because he wanted a KO.
So to all you obese, muscularly challeneged pussys out there pay attention next time. And Nate Diaz should consider trying to pass the 3rd grade before fighting someone who can speak coherently.
