Bellator 55 MMA fight videos of Travis Wiuff vs. Christian M’Pumbu. This light-heavyweight bout took place on Oct. 22nd 2011.
I love Bellator. They put on some good fights, and sometimes great fights, and have a more than decent stable. But with Warren getting knocked out, and now M’pumbu losing, the Bellator champions look as unmarketable as ever. Eddie Alvarez the obvious exception. They have to get these guys to defend their titles more often, which is a problem with the tournament dynamic, and that’s something I love about Bellator. + they have two champs that are about as exciting as the DMV. I don’t know. What do you guys think?
80 fights for Wiuff? Amazing. Pretty powerful dude, and he cuts 60 pounds to fight LHW? He just looked bigger than Christian M Pumbu, but Christian looked like he had better striking.
Thanks for posting this Bruno.
Another wrestler with nothing but an overhand right and marginal ground and pound beating a good striker whose take down defense failed him.
I hate to see striker get caught like this and have some wrestler lay on them for 2.5 rounds.
I’m not an expert, but when the bull charges why are these guys going straight back into the cage? Why not use some lateral movement and get out of the bulls way? Easy to do from my couch I guess.
jeez, that takedown in the second round shows that m pumbu doesn’t know how to wrestle at all. He stuffed it but didn’t pull his leg back afterwards.
M had it in the third but like an idiot got into his guard and gave him the takedown. Booo. This is the definition of lay n pray for the win…and it worked. He must be so proud to get that W.
sometime i dont understand bellator.
so this champion just got beat, and his belt didnt get taken away?
thats some ol bullshit.
super fight my butt
Scoring has to be changed
also, Pumbu should have avoided gnp-not because there was a chance that he would get reversed and humped out (which happened), but because all he had to do was stand up and Wiuff would have had a hard time getting back to his feet, much less surviving another punch
This isn’t wrestling it’s MMA (MIXED Martial Arts).. Please bring back the Yellow cards for stalling.. M’Pumbu was the better fighter, just not the better wrestler.
M’Pumbu is awesome. He’s a MW beating up LHWs.Travis did win this one by being a boring fighter but if there was 5 rounds Christian would’ve won.Christian fights to beat people not to make points that’s why I like him.
i agree with wuiff winning by gay n pray but how the hell did that one judge give him the 3rd round?
he was almost knocked out for most of the round
Wrestling is a part of MMA. If you don’t want to go to the ground, learn takedown defense. Otherwise, STFU. The Mind is also a part of MMA. M’Pumbu was an idiot for not making Wiuff stand up in the third. One smart choice and M’Pumbu would have almost certainly KO’d Wiuff. M’Pumbu deserved to lose because he made a terrible decision in going to the ground in the third.I agree that the judge who gave round 3 to Wiuff was off base. This was a 29-28 win for Wiuff. The most shocking thing to come out of the fight is this – for once, Card Urso got it right.
Non title fights suck. If your the Champion and you lose.. you should lose your belt.
one of those judges ruled it 30-27 WTF how can you say that?
@fritz
Thats how bad judges(the majority of MMA judges) score fights.A takedown to them is more points then a guy beating you up with punches and kicks for a whole round. If you watch Diego Sanchez vs Clay Guida you will see how judging is broken.Diego destroyed Clay standing up and he dropped him twice. But Clay got 1 takedown at the end and a judge who has the brain size of a pea decided to give the round to Clay.
@Beast w/ 8 Limbs and Bellend Bisping: This is Bellator’s dilemma. They can’t just keep the champion in the freezer, but they can’t get rid of the tourney as it is what makes Bellator the most exciting org. around.
The way I see it, the problem is how to market the tourney instead of the individual fighters. It’s the best system for the sport, but it simply isn’t as financially appealing in a charisma society. Being better doesn’t mean being profitable. A weird conundrum. All I can do is support the org. for being both different and good and hope others will enjoy it for what it offers: awesome fights.
@The Tao of F.U.: It’s bad mental conditioning. These strikers are programmed to control distance by moving away from the opponent (although they should move in angles). I don’t understand it myself, as my original backgrounds in judo and karate never let me be so afraid of charges. For me it was the opposite, usually a fighter charging me was a good thing. I hated when they ran away as I never had great cardio. But most of these strikers are not used to it and they brain-fart in the cage. It takes time and lots of specific training to deprogram a natural/conditioned reaction.
Wiuff was the bigger man Mpumbu was the better striker. Good strategy for Wiuff all it be not entertaining.
pumbas corner helped lose that fight by following wiuff to the floor when got clipped end of rd3, make him stand back up?
emrb is perfectly right. Stop bitching about people “lay n praying”, Wiuff was the better wrestler AND the better fighter since wrestling is part of mma. Being one dimensional doesn’t cut it in this sport if you’re a striker, at least learn some tdd, and if you can’t either leave mma or get used to losing decisions. Sounds perfectly fine to me.
