UFC 13 - The Ultimate Force hosted Tito Ortiz’s first UFC fight. Tito’s short battle with Wes Albritton was the beginning of his 11 year run with The Ultimate Fighting Championship.
You can tell who will win just by looking at their goofy photos.
love the theme music
Totally Awesome! I love these old School UFC’s. Tito Ortiz owned in that fight! Joe Rogan look a lot smaller back then!
awwww… joe looks so hairy
I love how before the fight the graphics say that Tito has limited ground game while the announcer says Tito will have a well rounded ground game.
I also like how he thinks Tito will have better technique based on the fact that he’s in shape
hahah
did Tito have a smaller had?
I like the backround during the interview, flashy.
“Some ground work” - LOL
i meant to say head
Joe definitely was smaller.
That ref stoppage was badass and I whish Tito fought the same way today.
Tito looked happy back then. Wes had no skills.
“Tito Ortiz-Winner by surrender” lol
haha joe looked coked the fuck out
Tito does fight the same way today. That’s the problem.
Thanks for the classic fight. So cool to see them like this a long time ago.
looked like a street fight beat down on youtube
you know his corner had the towel ready to throw as soon as he got taken down. yeah, the stoppage was awesome. I don’t think Wes realized his corner threw in the towel. can’t blame him though b/c he got worked! Tito’s GNP was among the best back then.
That was the brash, crass, true huntington beach bad boy…fearless and a warrior…and with a normal sized head….the Tito of today is boring lay n pray…and Joe Rogan looked scary, like the original co-host of American Idol (not Ryan Seacrest, the other one)
Albritton……..the barefoot experts. LOL!
All of the growth that could have gone to Tito’s MMA game clearly went to his head, literally. His noggin has doubled in size over the past 11 years!
Looked like Wes went for a lazy clinch and got bested, then beat down. That’s why Tito was my favorite fighter from the pre-post modern MMA world….now post the Ultimate Japan fight with Wandy….its pretty good.~ Bruno: Try the search function sometime. Tito vs Wandy fight.
they should test comentators for roids too=)
And yes, the Tito of today is mostly about lay and pray.
dude probably burned all his black belts when he got home.
His head was way smaller back then……sorry …. but it was.
I miss the old days!
albritton deserved to loose wearing shorts like that…
Was that luke perry interviewing tito??
tito looked better before he put too much muscle on.. i always used to like to watch him fight.. he was a lot more aggressive
dude wes was about to get him!! they stopped the fight way too eary
ahahahaha
they early kimbo slice, “my background is street fighting.” no you liar; that was fucking wrestling. be proud of your disipline tito
Damn, Tito wasn’t too humble after the fight but he was young…and so was Joe Rogan (looking small) Pre Beefcake status. I had forgotten what it was like to see Tito win. I like it.
Rogan was at a few of these early events and then didn’t pop up again until UFC 37.5 or so again.
Wow.. elbows to the back of the head… wes wasnt even wearing gloves, and now a days, that fight would have been stopped… about 15 seconds into full mount… the fact that the corner actually threw in the towel, fucking brutal. You could tell that wes had like.. no real fighting experience. He came in thinking this was going to be a sparring match in a dojo or something. And then he got his ass whooped.
This goes to show you how just one mistake can cost you a fight. Wes went for a clinch early in the first two or three seconds of the fight - big mistake! Plus, it goes against him ‘wanting to keep it standing up’. Either that or ‘Fighting out of Alabama’ was the mistake (Just Kidding, I’m sure the competition has increased there today, as MMA is now more popular than ever - probably including Alabama).
Too bad, we’ll never know what Wes fighting an opponent more in his range (Height+Weight+Age) would be like…And on a ‘good-day’ as sometimes, it just comes down to who is a better fighter on a particular day (i.e. Liddell Vs. Couture, St.Pierre Vs. Serra, Chonan Vs. Silva, etc.)
Finally, I found it rather interesting (in terms of synchronicity/coincidence) that Tito’s first opponent in the UFC was a Kenpo/Kempo (American) Karate practitioner, whom he overcame rather easily…And his final opponent was also a Karate-Ka who reversed the process (Machida).
I think it was after the first few UFC’s that people started saying “Karate-Sucks!!!” but then again GSP, Chuck, Machida, have all taken Karate (along with a little BJJ, Muay-Thai, etc. for good measure) and they’ve done pretty well (minus age possibly catching up with Chuck - though he’ll be back with a win soon…I hope - maybe avenging his loss against Jardine seems ‘doable’ if he goes for a few unsuspecting take-downs like in the Wanderlei fight) and it really comes down to whatever style/art works for you - which is likely to be dependent on your height, weight, body-type, age, etc. and whatever is more fun for you.
