UFC has evolved. Not just a stand and get punched like the old days when Tito was champ.

Machida was a master of avoiding Tito’s attack. Like Rogan said, very smart. He wasn’t running. Michida looked for and worked every opening.

If that was 100% Tito, he deserves to move on to another organization. He doesn’t have a future in the UFC.

How can Machida be a top fighter when he never engages? White will never give him a title shot until he actually fights someone. What a joke. Tito should have just kicked his ass.

Dodging isn’t the same thing as running away. If you had an eye for technical skill instead of brute strength maybe you’d enjoy Machida’s fighting style more.

If Machida didn’t engage, Tito wouldn’t have been taken down the amount of times he was, nor would he have eaten all of those kicks, including a knee to the body which hurt him good at the end of the third.

Heh, Tito (and others) have tried to kick his ass. All fighters aim to do that to each other, dumbass (cases like Starnes aside). He just couldn’t amount much of an offense to Machida, save the submission attempt late into the third.

If Tito could have kicked his ass, he would have. Fact is, Machida roughed him up and barely had a scratch on him. Aside from the missed triangle choke, there wasn’t much from Tito tonite.

Excellent tactical fight, I enjoyed it a lot. Machida is a very smart fighter and he did the right thing avoiding the raw force of Tito. Tito is actually a bad fighter, a caveman with almost no technique. I was surprised he tried a submission. Machida deserves all the credit. It’s not about who is the strongest or the heaviest but who has the riaght tactic to win the fight.

Machida is just an extremely frustrating opponent to face. I don’t know how you beat this guy. Maybe a Wanderlei Silva who has the offensive striking tools to bring the fight to him and hurt him in the clinch.

Machida is a good technical fighter, boring to watch but effective.

What perplexes me is how it seems so many are so high on Machida with his undefeated record, yet no one seems to think Thiago Silva is in that class.

Personally I would love to see that fight, and I think the Chute Boxe guy will bring out another KO.

Lyoto had very acccurate strikes but did do a fare share of circling AWAY from the pocket. the stick and move that he was employing left much to be esired from this fight. tito seemed to do all he could to get lyoto to engage and trade. hats off to lyoto for putting a winning plan together, but it was a lacluster performance. that knee tot he body was a great shot. perfect timing, perfect strike. nice triangle attempt by ortiz. good win for machida. good fight.

Machida is a boring fighter.he just ran away for 15 minutes ,tito got frustrated because machida didnt want to engage ,whats the difference between him and starnes ? Just because the ufc wants to pump him up joe rogan says that his runnig is a “strategy”.

I will admit he has good kicks and all that karate style , but this is MMA not a karate match ,and this is considering Tito wanted to engage and the fight was still boring ,imagine if the next opponent of lyoto machida doesnt want to engage and press the action? That would be ass boring.

All that machida does is running , throwing a low kick then high kick and running some more and repeat. All the same for 15 minutes.

Tito ortiz , you can like him or not as a fighter , but he allways goes to war , he goes to fight and entertain.He was really pissed with machida running and circling ,if there was some action was because tito cornered machida and press the action.

Can you imagine machida as a champion ? Boring fights for sure. In order for him to use his “karate style” he should stay out of range almost all the time , which means no engaging at all.
He is a combination between starnes (running) and okami (staying out of range and throwing little burst of kicks or punches )

i’m glad there’s pple who recognize the intelligence machida fights with. he may be “boring” but you can’t deny his skill. a furious GnP style is not skill. skill is picking your fights wisely, and by that i mean picking apart your opponent by exposing their weaknesses while minimizing any damage you have to take.

I dont know whos stand up game is worse, Titos or Sherks? Both got owned stand up and didnt try to take it to the ground like they should have. Do they both think they are boxers now?

It’s funny how people think Machida is a boring fighter. How can a boring fighter defeat so many good fighters as Rich Franklin, Bonnar, Tito and BJ Pen?
I think MMA fans should know more about techniques and fighting plans before making any comments on this website. It’s not about punching all the time, otherwise you’re gonna get owned on the octagon.
Lyotto deserved to win and I think when he faces a srtiker like vanderlei or Liddel he’s gonna show all his potential. Ortiz wasn’t a real opponent to his style.

That “running away” is called point karate. That’s his fighting style. Karate is all about making a strike while dancing out of the way of a bigger stronger persons attack. This is just my opinion coming from a black belt in Wado Ryu.

Everyone who complains about Machida, seem to me unable to grasp how good a fighter he is. Very clever and I didnt find it boring at all. It was a great showing of martial arts skill. If you wanna see people just killing each other and hugging watch ufc 9 or something or even better a kimbo youtube video…to me thats boring and the sort of thing..I think this guy will do some great things in the UFC

Whoever compared Lyoto to Kalib Starnes obviously is part retarded. Yes, Lyoto has a frustrating style for most 205 lbers, but the fact of the matter is….he beat Tito…he out struck him, he evaded takedowns, he buckled him with a liver shot and took Tito down. This is MMA, and there are no rules for being elusive. Kalib Starnes deserved to get fired from UFC, Lyoto has his own style (Machida Karate) which is hard for anyone to handle. Im predicting Lyoto Machida vs. Wanderlei Silva next.

The night of the flying knees! I don’t know which one was nicer, the one to the steroid freak’s head by Penn or this one to Donkey Kong’s enormous melon he calls a head! Beautiful high left round house kick also. He caught him flush with the ball of the foot, that is what I thought caused the cut over the monkey’s righ eye. To the remarks on brawlers, rednecks, retards and the lot, and the guy who called wanderlei vanderlei while insulting people for not understandings fighters or fighting, Machida is still boring. Yes, he beat Tito down. The biggest part of setting up a good match is having appropriate varying styles face eachother. So Machida can dance around, and shoot in for effective accurate strikes… and then back out. Where the fuck’s the combo? He’s a striker that doesn’t follow through. If Chuck Liddell back peddled after every jab or leg kick… would anyone watch him fight? Give me a break. You’re defending him because you think people are saying he’s a shitty fighter, which they arent. They are saying he’s boring as hell to watch. Bottom line.

I really enjoyed the fight and look forward to Lyoto’s continued rise, but argueing over whether Machida runs or evades misses the point that he aparently aimes to win and not to finish… He is very prepared to finish a fight if such an oppurtunity presents itself, but it really doesn’t seem to be in his game plan. Fans like a finisher and if he really wants to develope his fan base and please UFC management, than he’ll have to tailer his special set of skills to keep the fight from going to a decision. For all his dancing around Lyoto actually looked more tired in the third versus Tito and Tito was getting the better of the stand up prior to the knee. It seemed that Machida expended all of his energy in three rounds just to earn a decision. I wonder how Lyoto would have faired if the fight went any longer.

I was at this fight live and it was great. when tito lost all his sorry ass fans shut the hell up and realized his punk ass got served.

this fight is exactly why there needs to be yellow cards like in pride fighting. when mofo’s have money on the line there going to stop playing it safe. machida is super good don’t get me wrong but i rather watch grass grow. if he had money deducted from his winnings or losings he’d fight harder.

due to all the shit being talked i reviewed the tape. i watched this fight the night it aired on ppv, then here, then tape, then dvr then here again (after it was reposted) and saw the same thing everytime, Tito got cut and dropped, Lyoto still looked fresh when it was all said and done. call it what you want to, nothing against Tito, but he lost…..

I feel that I know exactly what I was watching. I have enjoyed this sport since the very first UFC 1 about twelve years ago. And this my friends was a VERY BORING FIGHT. Windycityfan must have been watching something other than the fight action.
