Still think that Kampmann is the 2nd best welterweight. And I do feel very bad for Alves, he just can’t get that damn win, no matter what his performance. I think Alves is missing the strategy side of the equation.

Great win for Martin

Pitbulls are strong and dangerous, but they’re not very smart.

Great victory for Kampmann, he beat the best Alves I’ve seen post title shot run.

itsme Says, in 3-3-2012 at 03:40:05 from

why did he took him down? I dont understand, he was winning the fight and Kampmann is clearly in trouble after those punches. Bad times for Alves

yhd00d Says, in 3-3-2012 at 03:47:32 from

What a stupid ass mistake lol.. taking a guy down when he’s badly hurt like that. Good job Kampmaan. Brains over Brawn =)

viking Says, in 3-3-2012 at 04:23:03 from

@just0: you’re being sarcastic, right?

Boy, and I thought that Rogan was a biased announcer! Glad the bias didn’t have to carry over to the judges. Martin was losing?! Reversal?! Complete control?! Weird take on the fight. Everytime Alves landed, I guess it was Florian, gushed over his ‘boxing,’ but kept mum when, right on que, Kampmann peppered him with 2-3 great shots.

cigronne Says, in 3-3-2012 at 05:12:30 from

The shocking end pictures in total accuracy why this is the fastest growing and the most exciting sport on earth, I’m so proud of being a fan of MMA, thanks Martin and Thiago!

Vin Says, in 3-3-2012 at 06:25:50 from

Thiago must be kicking himself (hard) right now;that was a huge tactical error .He was ahead on points, final round and goes to the ground with a guy who is better on the ground than he himself is.
These guys forget this is a profession ,you’ve got to win to advance to a title shot.Sucks because I’m a big fan of Thiago;but I hope he enjoys Sydney at least.

PitfighterZ Says, in 3-3-2012 at 06:52:54 from

That’s just how dangerous that guy is. Amazing fight, epic finish!

Goomba Says, in 3-3-2012 at 07:09:48 from

Great win for martin? How, he was losing the entire match? Everyone knows Alves truly is the better of the fighters.

murell Says, in 3-3-2012 at 07:18:29 from

Kampman should go out and buy a lottery ticket.

DaBigFish Says, in 3-3-2012 at 07:26:44 from

kryptonite Says, in 3-3-2012 at 08:02:28 from

2nd best welterweight are you on crack wouldnt even make it into the top 5 gsp, condit, diaz, kos, ellenberger, hendricks, sanchez, shields all before crapmann he will never get a title shot

anakonda Says, in 3-3-2012 at 08:04:39 from

Great win for Martin, this guy deserves to get top fights. Alves made a big mistake getting carried away in the end, he was winning the fight. Anyway, he will be back and it’s nice to see Martin in the top of the mix.

Nadie Says, in 3-3-2012 at 08:38:30 from

what the ** he was thinking man why he didt keep punching ::: he didnt watch the minotauro vs mir fight

Twana Says, in 3-3-2012 at 08:52:50 from

A true warrior..Martin Kampmann

tobes Says, in 3-3-2012 at 09:10:30 from

Goomba, the fact that Alves controlled Kampmann for two rounds and then lost does not mean that he’s the better fighter. Kampmann still got the win. If these guys fought 100 times, you could basically flip a coin every time. Kampmann has better BJJ, but Alves is more explosive with his strikes and takedowns. In hindsight, it was perhaps a tactical error, but if he’d controlled Kampmann on the ground and won from there, no one would be saying “Can’t believe Alves went for that takedown with a minute left!”… Alves was looking to finish out the round strong and on top.

Dan Blankenship Says, in 3-3-2012 at 09:46:06 from

That was an awesome fight! Kampmann has a lot of tools…but his best tool is hanging in there no matter what the other fighter throws his way. If Kapmann works on his boxing a little more, he might get the title one day.

facephucke Says, in 3-3-2012 at 11:14:15 from

epic submission! wow! so unexpected

Jballer Says, in 3-3-2012 at 12:27:09 from

@Goomba: In what paralel universe do you reside where the loser of the fight is clearly the “better fighter”? Because here, the winner, especially via a finish, is the better, in theory

TransitionTR450 Says, in 3-3-2012 at 12:57:47 from

I think most people had Alves winning this fight, but like the old saying goes, “Never leave it in the hands of the judges” thiago may have believed it was 19-19 heading into the 3rd and needed a big exclamation point to finish round. Kampman’s a very dangerous fighter and took advantage of an ill-timed takedown. Thiago will be back and no one will think any less of him by this loss!

mscash Says, in 3-3-2012 at 13:11:30 from

Damn what a comeback by the Hitman. The shot of his bloody face on camera after Thiago tapped out was excellent.

Beast w/ 8 Limbs Says, in 3-3-2012 at 13:28:35 from

reminds me of mir/nogueira 2. big mistake. Not a fluke though martin looked amazing in the 1st round before he got taken down. That was the second most devastating front kick i’ve seen in ufc. Alves looked as good as ever but damn was that dumb!

Thxer Says, in 3-3-2012 at 15:46:09 from

WTF was Kampmann doing? Dude is a monster striker but tried to wrestle most of the fight, lame. He’s REALLY lucky to have pulled this off.

SEAN_VANCE Says, in 3-3-2012 at 18:44:55 from

Kampman hit the lottery…

KungFuLowKick Says, in 3-3-2012 at 19:42:22 from

Are you an idiot??1st of all Martin is a mixed martial artist not a kickboxer. And 2nd of course he will wrestle Alves, the better striker, because ach time he threw a combo,Alves blocked it and countered with power punches that hurt Martin.Martin landed 1 good front kick the the chin for tons of power shots on the head.Of course he will grapple with a guy if Martian has an advantage. You are truely idiot.

China man Says, in 3-3-2012 at 21:38:27 from

Hey Bruno,

Love your website!

Just wondering if you ever considered putting up the footage between rounds in the corners? Maybe it’s just me but I enjoy watching the fighters in the corners with their trainers.

Bruno: I don’t upload the vids. I just link to them. The reason you don’t see all the extras on the fights is because most of the vid hosting sites have time limits plus it makes the files much larger.

kaobeto Says, in 3-3-2012 at 23:33:29 from

BJJ is always helpful if you’re in a bad spot. A.Silva knew that, Martin too. Thiago is tough and won’t be cut from UFC.

chiroguy Says, in 3-4-2012 at 21:44:40 from

It always cracks me up when people think that a fighter who pulls off a submission got LUCKY!!! My god people, wake the f@ck up…Luck has absolutely nothing to do with it. Way to hang in there Kampmann. If you think it was luck, check out the picture of Martin’s face looking into the camera right after Alves taps. Does that look like the face of someone who got LUCKY, or the face of someone who would not be denied his VICTORY!

melvinthewolfburgos Says, in 6-18-2012 at 10:53:09 from

It has nothing to do with luck at my fight in the sts competition i fought an extremely good guy eveyrone thought this guy was gonna kill me but he couldnt take me out i survived an gave him the best fight i was in a bad spot at one point then i almost won by submission and my arm died out an he got me, you absolutley right it aint about luck alves jus happen to fall into it,an of course hes gonn a wrestle with alves this is mma doesnt f****** matter you gotta keep fighting an do what ever it takes to wore your oponent down an beat him an leave that cage with a win, even if u lose u learn something i bet alves did here
