And they say MMA is dangerous and violent. These are kids throwing bare knuckle punches and axe kicks, lol!

ustabeluke Says, in 3-23-2013 at 11:10:02 from

So rabbit punches” (kick in the case) are legal in Karate? I didn’t think they were legal in any combat sport because of how dangerous they are. (??)

>>A rabbit punch is a blow to the neck or to the base of the skull. It is considered especially dangerous because it can damage the cervical vertebrae and subsequently the spinal cord, which may lead to serious spinal cord injury or even death<<

That was a sick KO.I’m waiting for the haters to say:”I would just soccer kick him,or I would just grab him etc.”

It is illegal but just like boxing and kickboxing,if you turn your head to the side and get hit behind the head,it’s your fault not the guy throwing the strike.

Stan Says, in 3-23-2013 at 12:11:05 from

I don’t know if you can call that a kick to the back of the head. The guy turned his head into it, so it would (should) have been a legal strike, even in MMA.

Sunfish Hero Says, in 3-23-2013 at 12:49:02 from

Isn’t that just a bicycle kick? Like, the kick soccer players use all the time?

Either way, that was rad as hell.

INANEBIGNATE Says, in 3-23-2013 at 12:53:43 from

sweet KO at first I thought they were just doing body shots bc they were only hitting in the body and had no gloves or head gear on.

rightsaysfred Says, in 3-23-2013 at 13:15:08 from

No, in full-contact karate you can knee and kick to the head – just no punches. I used to use a variation of that kick in which the leading leg (his left leg, in this instance) is used to strike. If you miss, which I did most of the time, you look really stupid. Even when you land it, it rarely does s***.

That was awesome.. but I don’t think it would work too often in full combat or UFC.. sick move though.

Adonis Says, in 3-23-2013 at 13:46:44 from

just like the Anderson Silva front kick, everyones going to be doing the rolling axe haymaker cartwheel kick.

FailSonnen Says, in 3-23-2013 at 13:51:24 from

Its funny how no one in the UFC is talented enough to land these. Even GSP. These kicks are par for the course in Kyokushin. I’ve seen them done so many times. Nothing new. Just the way he twists it at the end of the kick is a bit new..

And for those that say: “well the MMA fighter needs to worry about the ground n pound and grappling/wrestling if he misses”

Yeah well don’t miss, a hole…

tobes Says, in 3-23-2013 at 14:44:57 from

at INANEBIGNATE – i think in this style of Karate you’re not supposed to hit to the head, at least evidently not with punches. The kick might have been intended for the shoulder. Or head kicks might be allowed, but not intended to KO.

you can see immediately as the kicker stands up he puts his hand down in a sign of ‘unintended foul’ as he is looking at someone or something(presumably the judges table)

I think in this case the kicker might win, but potentially he might also ‘lose’ because of a DQ

This young guy clearly has athletic talent. The kick he attempts but narrowly misses at 6 seconds is also impressive.

Wonderboy Thompson is another awesome example of Karate kickboxing efficacy, but Matt Brown exposed his ground game deficiency. Once Thompson develops a good sprawl he will be more relevant in the division.

Looks like not many people here know about kyokushin karate rules. This is a kyokushin match and it is a perfect legal hit. In kyokushin you can use any kick to the head but can’t punch face and it is all full contact. Hit to kill… It is perfectly OK…full hit..full contact. There are other crazy kicks too..search YouTube. OSU.

If I ever get in a fight on full mats I will remember to do that kick…

KungFuLowKick Says, in 3-24-2013 at 01:05:13 from

No that’s how real full contact karate works.Body punches and kicks are legal everywhere(except the obvious illegal places). It’s just that pussified North America prefers to have chestguard, shin pads, gloves, and a motorcycle helmet. And you can’t hit the face with any power, and you can never punch the face.I got from withe to purple belt from p**** karate when I was 8 to 12.Total scam. You had to PAY to get a new belt and I had had like 8 belts in between. When I started boxing I thought I was a beast but 90% of what I learned was useless. Then I started kickboxing with a coach who’s base is karate, but is a really good boxer and muay thai fighter. He teaches real karate classes and really good kicking and timing punch techniques for kickboxing.I don’t do much of the karate classes because it’s pretty brutal on the fists. If all the karate classes were like that one in North America, there probably would be 90% less black belts and there would probably be 2-3 real 8 years old black belts.

JO Says, in 3-24-2013 at 01:18:08 from

Kyokushin Rules: 1 point for a full knock down, .5 for a quick knock down. No hands to the head/neck. No grabbing at all. So body shots and head kicks look like the order of the day.

Sounds pretty brutal. Remind me not to poke fun at karate wimps anymore, at least not the Kyokushin tourney types.
