The nine-bout event kicked-off the first round of the Sengoku lightweight grand prix. It is an eight-man tournament to determine an opponent to take on Japanese superstar Takanori Gomi for the vacant World Victory Road lightweight championship.
Well, I’m not impressed with Gomi at all in this fight. He just went from “the Fire Ball kid” to “uh, that Fire Ball guy” in my book.
Gomi’s got some vicious low kicks and he countered the first one like a beast. This fight shows why Gomi is one of the best in all MMA arenas. Gomi with his iron chin #1!!!
And I hate to beat a dead horse but if Gomi’s cardio in the Diaz fight was like this he would’ve destroyed Diaz and destroyed Diaz’s face even more than he did. Just saying.
I agree with Bob…Bang didn’t look too bad either.
Don’t like Diaz, but he’ll beat Gomi 7 out of ten times, Cardio or not.
Gomi should have an “Out of Order” sign on his chin. The button aint connected to his brain.
Bang fought hard – respect.
That’s what happens when you go out partying in Vegas the night before you got to fight. Stupid mistake. =(
Gomi’s awesome. That chin is amazing.
Gomi fought well, the only reason he may not have been as impressive is because Bang was a worthy challenger and came to fight. He brought it and displayed really solid stand-up until he gassed. Respect to both fighters
it was strange gomi didnt try to take the fight to the ground he didnt shoot in once that i remeber, and the one time bang did he got mounted and almost pounded out, gomi showed solid stand up but i don get why he didnt fall back on what made him on of the best, takedowns and ground and pound ?
Wow, taka sure became one boring ass fighter since his pride days.
My LW ranking is 1. Penn, 2. Alvarez, 3. Gomi, 4. Cavalcante, 5. Hansen, 6. Sherk, 7. Florian, 8. Stevenson, 9. Aoki, 10. Kawjiri. Gomi’s standup in this match was good as always.
Stop bringing up Diaz. It was one bad performance where he gassed in the first round. Fighters learn from their mistakes, I haven’t seen Gomi gas since losing that fight. GSP lost to Serra, fixed his mistakes, and now is back to the top of the Welterweight list. A mistake is a mistake, if they fought again, Gomi would look much better than he did.
