i seriously FAIL to see how Sergey Golyaev could have possible won..? Gomi stalked him the entire fight arguably landing more strikes. AND took him down twice both times getting the mount and needed the bell to save him from the armbar attempt in the first round. Aside from the slip (knockdown?) from gomi Sergey failed to mount any offence and should not have been awarded the win

Gomi hasn’t been able to get off or impose his will in his last few Sengoku appearances. He’s not as dangerous being too much a counter fighter, he needs to find his killer instinct again

What the hell? How did Golyaev win that? He very clearly lost 2 of the rounds. The only round he won is the 2nd, and that’s only because of that left hook he landed. That was a terrible decision. Gomi had takedowns, submission attempts and mounts in rounds 1 and 3 and he was winning the exchanges in the 3rd round. I don’t understand that decision at all.

Golyaev has really nice, crisp, technical standup. Enjoyed watching him fight. He was backpedalling, looking to use his reach and counter-punch the entire fight. He didn’t want to exchange with Gomi and we saw some of the old Gomi’s standup near the end of the 3rd round.

When the fight went to the ground in the first round that was a very nice kimura attempt and a beautiful transition to full mount for Gomi.

I really don’t understand this decision.

wow gomi got screwed. clearly won the first and third. that second round was cool as hell for sergey but no way he won more than one round. baffled by the scoring.

See this is what happens. The more they give Gomi unranked opponents, the more Gomi thinks he can slack off. When he was constantly facing top competition, he was always in good shape and looked impressive, then they start giving him easy guys and he starts to look very lackluster and slow.

Sergey brang a good game but i still think he should have been more active with those jabs early on.

You could see straight away that Sergey had really good hands, when Gomi took the fight to the ground he really should have finished him. I knew the longer it stayed standing, the more the fight favored Sergey. Gomi showed great heart b/cuz he was shook in the 2nd round, big time..a more aggressive opponenent would have finished him for sure…by round 3, Gomi fully recovered and turned into his normal bad ass self…good fight!! I felt Gomi won rounds 1 and 3…but the judges felt differently..

Wow, terrible decision. Rounds 1 and 3 to Gomi, no doubt. Only reason he lost rd 2 was because he rolled his ankle, which left him open and off his shit for a little while.

Oh, and I don’t even like Gomi. But he definitely should have won that decision.

Seems Gomi has problems getting in against fighters with a notable reach advantage (ala Nick Diaz). Sergey had somewhat awkward yet confident footwork that effectively threw Gomi off

I think Sergey only landed one punch that whole fight. How the fuck do you win a decision doing that? Bullshit. Big problem with this sport right now is incompetent judges and refs.

mygif_alt
zzz Says, in 11-1-2008 at 22:11:27 from 75.53.206.9

Yakuza got the judges fixed. Everyone had bet on Gomi so the Japanese mafia decided to twist up the decision and let Gomi lose making them millions.

It’s arguable that Gomi won 2 rounds. However, it’s indisputable that Gomi was a tremendous favorite in this fight and he didn’t look very good at all.

Brandon Says, in 11-1-2008 at 22:48:46 from 74.216.85.253

zzz probably right regarding the Yakuza… this was highway robbery.

I’m not sure if Sengoku follows the pride rules for judging or the current UFC rules, either or though Gomi clearly dominated 13 of the 15 minutes of the fight.

This is probably the worst decision I’ve seen in a long long time since I believe the Nick Thompson fight earlier this year…

what fight were guys watching, cause round 1= Gomi, Round 2= Sergey He dropped Gomi & Round 3 could have gone either way..

The fact that Sergey rocked Gomi’s ass in the 2nd round, is why I think he won the fight..

electricdeth Says, in 11-2-2008 at 00:00:22 from 24.21.90.154

I actually hate Gomi, but I think he won this fight for sure. Besides the second round Golyaev didn’t do much at all. He should have finished it inside the second, but he luckily still got the w. Gomi should not take guys lightly and maybe this won’t happen.

dualdiagnosis Says, in 11-2-2008 at 02:06:08 from 67.117.146.22

Gomi’s fault for letting it go to decision. He waited too long, should have attacked the left knee much more and taken him down more often for more ground ‘n pound.

Dancin’ with Sergey gave him a chance for that one punch that hurt him, Sergey should have kicked his head off for a knockout when he went down(head kicks legal right?) Gomi’s lucky he didn’t get knocked the f*ck out.

Wow, robbed. Pretty clear win there for Gomi. Gomi is prob one of the best fighers out there, but I agree he has been going downhill for a while now. Used to be only fighters that stood a chance against Gomi were very very good grapplers.

Sergey’s stand up isn’t good, he fights out of a traditional boxing stance, which contributes to his footwork, and leverage on punches, but the negative side to it is his horrible takedown defense, which should’ve cost him the fight, he has good stand up, its just not for mma, look at marcus davis and GSP who seem to utilize both aspect of the game very well

You could make a good case for calling that a draw, with Golyaev winning round 2 10-8, but Gomi definitely won rounds 1 and 3. I just can’t figure out how Golyaev could have legitimately won that fight, though.

the reason Gomi lost was because of Sengoku judging criteria. Golyaev came closest to finishing the bout at one point, so he won.
