UFC 94 MMA fight video of Stephan Bonnar vs. Jon Jones. This Ultimate Fighting Championship match was held Jan 31, 2009 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. |
wow. amazing techniques. respect to Bonnar for hanging tough.
sad to see bonnar lose, but man the kid has skillz.
Wow.. didn’t expect that to happen.
Never heard of Jones before this fight but damn he’s got some skills
Bonnar man…
I don’t think Bonner took the kid seriously enough… the next guy won’t
bonnar maybe you should try the ultimate fighter again.
This kid is good. Bonnar never takes easy fights.
Jones has a very bright future, and Bonnar is SOOO tough. Much respect for both fighters. Great fight.
Jones is good, but that spinning elbow was to the back of the head. Still wouldn’t have made a difference, but rules are rules.
Jon Jones, Anthony Johnson, Rampage, Sugar Evans, Overeem… What do they all have in common?
Bonnar is just too old and too slow to hang with JJ’s talent.
Sad to see Bonnar lose, although I look forward to the bright future of Jones. I think Jones was winded near the end. With some improved cardio that guy, for as young as he is, should have a bright future. Again, I love Bonnar – he’s one of my favorite fighters because he always puts on a good show if he gets a little overwhelmed. I think that’s what happened here in his first fight back. Good work to both fighters.
The first round of this fight was easily the most entertaining five minutes of the night. And those two suplays! I mean, they don’t do a lot of damage, but pretty? Wow!
Hells yeah, Jon representing the 607 area. Good to see a fighter coming out of my area.
Amazing fight from Jones although he was tired in the end…kid has a future. He really mastered using Bonnar’s momentum against him, excellent throws. Stephen hasn’t been ragged dolled like that ever…
As for the elbow to the back of the head, it was fine as they were standing..when you throw a strike to an opponent who is facing you, if it glances to the back area, its fine…
I don’t think Jones won that fight. I give you he is very skilled, and kicked ass the first round. But w/out the take-downs, Bonner put the pressure on in round 2 & 3, landed more combos and controlled where the fight went. If anything, a draw. Don’t get me wrong, he’s talented, but did not beat down Bonner the last two rounds. But judges are judges and have a scoring system, so the take downs took the win. Props to Jones
They mentioned Jones with Greco-Roman base, but he had some amazing leg sweeps.
Does he have any Judo background?
I was impressed.
All I can say is wow. Jon Jones showing some of the best greco I’ve seen in MMA to date. Finally we are seeing what good wrestling can get you. Top notch 5 point greco throws. Mad props the jon the bones jones. Would love to see some more from him in the future.
That spinning elbow was lethal. Bonners head was driven into the canvas HARD. Bang-ga-da right to the cerabellem.
Jones was incredible, the throws/tosses/suplex/takedowns, wow… but that elbow to the back of the head was fucking bogus… and that the ref didnt call it, and Joe Rogan watched it on replay like 6 times and never once mentioned it, really pisses me off. I cringed everytime I saw it, if Bonner was knocked out, or couldn’t continue, I’d give him the fight for illegal strike, thats what they do if you cant continue from a knee to a downed opponent of a groin strike, this isn’t any different.
wa wa wa. the ref won’t call shit if you only hit them once the wrong way. if it happened on more than one ocasion then the ref shoulda called it. esides bonnar had moved his head in the way of the strike so it’s not jones’ fault
jeez did you see that elbow! wow Bonner was hanging tough. Jones thought he was knocked out for a second!
Who the fu#k is Jon Jones? No wonder Boner was pouting in the behind the scenes video blog.
@ Jasonicus:
Do your homework. The back of the head area in MMA is different than in boxing. The elbow was behind the ear area but not in the foul zone as outlined by our good friends who make the rules.
Watch the replays and you can clearly see the contact area.
Draw a line from the center of your head from that little bump you have there down to your neck and then allow for 1″ on either side. That area is very easy to damage from strikes.
Bruno: In an interview Tuesday Bonner said, “I have a black and yellow bruise on the bone at the base of my skull where the point of his elbow hit me. It left a knot the size of an egg.”
that elbow was illegal but man bonnars head bounced off the mat, amazing!
NOT BAD…BUT HE’S STILL NOT THAT GREAT…yet
Bonnar clearly won the last two rounds. The dude got robbed.
Chunks, you have no idea what a point system os
i meant is, i know you’re about to hate on my grammer.
