great fight, horrible decision. i think most people had the fight 29-28 bonnar but what blows my mind is it wasnt even a split decision, it was a unanimous decision for forrest, anybody can clearly see forrest did not dominate all three rounds and its obvious who got the better of the exchanges standing up by looking at their faces at the end of the fight. forrest might have thrown more knees and looping right hands but most of the knees werent connecting and his punches werent landing clean. bonnars combinations were landing clean as you can tell by forrests face and he landed more punches overall. this reminds me of the bisping/hamill fight were the judges made their decison based on the crowds cheers and the fan favorite(wich in this case is obviously forrest) bonnar got robbed on this one

I guess the bloodier the fight is the more it gains a “classic” status… only in America… No wonder why MMA had a hard time being accepted. Sakuraba VS Royce was a classic and you don’t see much blood, if any in it.

Typical American audience… all they care about it blood, if you guys like this shit, maybe you should look for VALE TUDO videos, they are bloody, oh, and as a perk, maybe you will find the one were a guys dies…in the ring!!! YES REALLY…NO SHIT!!!

I think the in the US fighters should be allowed to use weapons, so there is more blood… because that’s what the United Redneck states of America like…and what they like is law….

Dirty, this is an amazing fight, get real. It’s funny how people harp on the UFC for putting a bunch of Neanderthals in the ring for slugfests, but most Pride highlight reels consist of one (admittedly amazing) fighter teeing off on some Asian pro-wrestling crossover NOBODY who gets his head bounced off the canvas like a basketball in a late stoppage. I’d rather see an evenly matched fight any day, and this is the perfect example.
Also, keep in mind that this is the start of both of their careers, and no one can argue with Griffin being a solid LHW after his dominant win over Shogun.

Not really, Dirty. Which is why fights like Sobral/Heath aren’t that popular. This fight was amazing because two guys came out and gave it every thing they had and even when they were exhausted kept swinging.

On a side not, I totally agree that this fight got scored wrong. I think Bonnar took rounds 2 and 3.

Dirty 7-30 I dont know what your problem was, 9 out of 10 people would rather see people people bang then a techincal on the floor fight, its just more exciting.

I dont know what you have got with USA

dirty 7-30. are you stupid or just a troll? no one said anything about blood until you brought it up! you’re the only person to even mention or think about blood. go ahead, hit ctrl F and type in blood. the only place it comes up is your worthless, idiotic and offensive comment.

As for Forrest vs Bonner, great fight…..been there….done that myself.

Let’s start a petition for War Machine vs Royce Gracie, 2011.

IknowMMA I think your name is mistaken War machine shouldn’t even belong on this page. He is a travesty to this sport. If you want a fighter go ahead and stick with war machine (mr. potato head) I’ll take Roger Huerta over him any time.

KieranMac Says, in 1-12-2008 at 03:41:02 from 68.48.252.138

I’d call that one for Bonnar still, even years later. I can understand why they *might* call it for Griffin, and he definitely fought his heart out, but I don’t think the connected with nearly the same number or power of his punches. He might have had the slight advantage in the jiu jitsu, since he did take Bonnar’s back, but Bonnar still just slipped out the back.

Eh, anyhow, easily in the top 3 fights I’ve ever seen.

Bryan,
Interesting point…But does Huerta have as many tattoos as War Machine? And don’t tattoos make a guy tougher? Also, many ladies love tattoos. Why would we limit the sport to male viewers and women who hate tattoos? Hmmmm, this conversation is getting quite philosophical.

What a fight! I forgotten how close this fight was.
In fact, upon closer inspection I gave the first round to Griffin, the second to Bonnar, and the third was to close to call (no takedowns or notable advantage either way) – so a draw?
I don’t see how anyone could see the result as unanimous. If anyone should have won, it should have been by split decision or even after a further round of sudden death.

how the hell was that scored a unanimous decision for griffin? after watching that i would have called that 29-28 for bonnar and at worst a draw

this is a good fight as far as stand up fighting goes. i personally like to see a mix of groundfighting with stand up, but i have to agree somewhat with the opinion of some that the US prefers what is basically bloody, “dirty boxing”. that is just the preferene of the US audience. thank god there was always Pride and now M1, and other smaller organizations. there were many takedowns in this fight but not too many submission attempts. i would have liked to see more of a balance. after all, this is Mixed Martial Arts, not “dirty boxing”. bonnar and griffith are warriors, though and they at least deserve respect for inflicting such terrible beatings on each other. it was messy and sloppy but oh well. Americans are after all the most violent people on earth.

Luis Says, in 1-13-2008 at 23:47:31 from 74.186.54.190

“Americans are after all the most violent people on earth.” at least in the sense of the eagerness of seeing blood shed by a fighter. maybe also in being belligerent and even gleeful, joyful at times at seeing carnage and brutal knockouts. you must beware of that; you may get champions you don’t want.

i myself can’t wait until Big Nog turns it on and starts making people cry uncle.

LOL Luis. Big Nog will get massacred by Bigger Tim. I am predicting one of the most brutal fights we have ever seen. I think Nog is gonna take a pounding that not even Fedor was able to give him.

dirty 7-30 Says, in 1-14-2008 at 09:58:02 from 99.227.13.44

I think big Nog will cleanup house in the UFC, I just don’t see any one that can match his skills, and when he start pulverizing what the UFC calls “the best of the best” people will think of the man that beat him twice… yes the UFC most skilled nemesis…. FEDOR

And nog is smart too, he’s taking his time for his first match…. doesn’t want to rush his first fight in a cage…

Seppuku Says, in 1-14-2008 at 22:49:32 from 65.31.97.167

Griffin CLEARLY won that bout. Stephen Bonnar did one hell of a job though. He definitely deserves a lot of credit. Even though Forrest’s nose was cut, it didn’t mean Bonnar was getting more punches. Bonnar’s noggin was being whipped around just as much, if not more than Griffin’s. Not to mention Griffin basically had all of the takedowns in the match, which score greatly.

ERIK are you saying that SYLVA is a stronger puncher than FEDOR?… are you smoking you ass crack or what?.. obviously you must be one of those red/white and blue balls type of retard…

NEVER!…EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVER in a gazillion years will TIM “the big redneck” Sylva be a better or stronger striker than FEDOR.. never.. read it right retard..**N..E..V..E..R**

Like it or not Yank, FEDOR is everything all your Yankee fighters aren’t…. TALENTED… and if DANA WHITE WASN’T such a slave driver he would have signed FEDOR… what can I say he’s isn’t just tough and talented… he’s also smart.

what A FUCKING JOKE YOU ARE…TYPICAL YANK

I’m no big fan of either and it was a nice fight but in my opinion Bonnar won that one…. I don’t know why they gave it to griffin, maybe seeing him smile made him look more of a winner or they saw more potenial in him for the ‘real’ ufc.

mygif
JAB Says, in 1-16-2008 at 20:14:23 from 99.226.129.17

thats exactly it. Forrest Griffin is just easier to market to the target group their looking for. Guys think hes a joker, which yea hes a pretty funny dude, girls liek his crazy humor, and lets face it, girls who watch the ufc know him, but could u honestly picture Bonnar at the same level in terms of being marketable? No right..thats all it is, the reality is that the UFC found someone with a good t.v personality, with some good skills as well. That alone overshadowed Bonnar’s great shwoing in the fight. By the way, i think it should of been Bonnar via split decision. Awesome fight either way.

Dumb Yankees… BLAH BLAH BLAH! Dirty your proving to be more ignorant then any redneck I have ever met. As for the fight, when I originaly saw it I thought Bonnar won. After looking back Griffin connected more cleanly and had more snap then push to his punches. Bonnar did get a second chance and look what happend.

This was a great fight but i think Bonner totally got robbed. He clearly connected with more clean punches. I guess its more important to the UFC that someone can take a punch rather than throw them!
