Would you imagine seeing a chuck liddell in his prime fighting a newbee like glover if they weren’t in the same team? Hell no!! Strictly a business move and Shogun winning that fight would just have people saying, “who the F*** he beat to deserve a shot at the title? Glover? who the F*** is that?” All you guys know what I’m talking about.

Trying to use shogun as a stepping stone? What the hell is the UFC thinking. Give the guy some respect..he just had an epic fight with henderson.

If i was shogun i would be offended that the ufc was to give me a new comer. I personally would not take this fight and even the keyboard warriors would not take it if they could be shogun for a day.

I didn’t watch-listen to the video but Undertaker needs a choke slam, Shogun needs a real oppenent..Hell in a cell RNC falls anywhere fight, the special guest ref is…. yep no other then Mr. Stevie Wonder and the 3 judges scoring the contest have been to over 300 Ted Nugent concerts.

I didn’t buy it either when I heard he was afraid to fight Glover I mean he comes out of the Chute box they knock each others blocks off all day long so why would he be afraid to fight anyone. As a professional you have to do whats right for your future and fighting Glover just wont help him not at this moment in time, Brandon doesn’t help much either but I think it’s a small step in the right direction.

Fighters have different styles, teachers, techniques, but in the end it is a fight. No matter who you are, or how good you’ve been doing. You are at risk in every fight. Shogun can be K.O’ed by Vera just as easy as Glover.

They say the biggest (and take note bet’ers) advantage is confidence. How is a fighters confidence. In “A Book of Five Rings” Miyamoto Musashi talks about the what it means to be a warrior (samurai). The meaning is: “To not fear death, but instead, to want to die.”

Sounds completely f***** stupid, but what it really means is: never worry about what your opponent is going to do to you, but you are going to do to your opponent. If you are not afraid to engage; you will most likely win. If your fighting career is inconsistent like Shogun’s you have lots of bad memories of being beaten. Glover is on a mean streak. Vera just got back in the UFC after the loss to Silva was over-turned with Silva’s non-human piss.

In the end this is a fight where both guys are even as far as ego and mental fortitude go.

Just look at Shogun’s record and every and each one of his fights. He’s not scared of anyone. It’s just waste of time to fight Glover because he won’t bring any money into the fight. Vera has name (bad reputation can also be good publicity) and, therefore, paying audience. If Shogun needs to beat a meaningless fighter to get back into the mix (which makes no sense, he only lost to the champion and a very VERY close fight to Hendo), at least let him make some money out of it.
Glover is the Iceman’s prospect and they want to push him through the ranks quickly. Let Glover fight at least one decent fighter before giving him a top 5.

All these posts defending Shogun because it would’ve been a “lose-lose” situation are crazy! What reason does Jon Jones (or any champion) have to fight anyone? It’s a lose-lose situation, because if they win, they just beat somebody that they should’ve beaten (they’re the champ, right?) and if they lose then they lose the belt.

If Glover isn’t good enough to fight Shogun, then Shogun should prove it by knocking him out, not ducking him and making excuses.

I am interested to read that. It makes sense that Chuck would want that fight (Way to get back at Shogun vicariously through Glover for Chuck) and I am in agreement that it is almost disrespectful to Shogun to give him that fight. He is coming back from losing his belt, then having a solid finish and win against a former champion (Forrest). To give him a dangerous but relatively unknown fighter is a lose/lose and not advantageous to their overall strategy. Pride protected their name fighters. The big guys liked that. They had easier fights to keep their confidence high and their name valid. I’m not encouraging widespread use of that – I definitely don’t want the cushioning that I’ve seen in Pride and Bellator. But I would like less random favouritism than presently exists in the UFC.

I can see Vera fighting Glover and Shogun fighting Machida to complete the trilogy. Glover may be good but like other fighters who have come to the UFC they don’t do as well against the cream of the crop when it comes to the top fighters.
