Shogun Blows Out Knee Yet Again – Liddell Fight Off

The UFC on Tuesday announced that Mauricio “Shogun” Rua has ruptured his ACL and will miss his scheduled return to the Octagon against Chuck Liddell on June 7 in London.

Shogun has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 85 bout with Liddell due a ruptured ACL in his left knee, the same injury that he had surgically repaired following his loss to Forrest Griffin in October at UFC 76.

Rua will once again require surgery on the injured knee, but no word is yet on when we will be able to return to competition.

“I’ve never seen Shogun so motivated for a fight like this in years,” said Rua spokesman Eduardo Alonso. “This was like a new beginning for him.”

not allowed? ill tell ya something.. my girl fell down some stairs before christmas and was on life support and in a coma.. and they said she wouldnt do anything but live in a wheel chair.. not “allowed” to do all kinds of shit..
she is doing all kinds of stuff now! she just did both of our taxes… right I might add… went and got them done..
blowing out yer knee… ACL is a serious injury.. but dont let anyone tell you that ya can’t do anything.. be smart and make an informed decision obviously but never give yerself a barrier like that… prayers go out to yer friend bro for sure hope he can skateboard again!

Liddell will now probably be spoon fed a fighter. Everyone else in the Top 10 is already scheduled. He’ll Most likely see a Wilson Goveia, Lambert or Stephan Bonner. It will be someone recognizable but no threat to Liddell. Maybe Alexander if his fight is a quick on in April. Liddell vs Henderson anyone?

gouveia is already scheduled to fight at 84 and bonnar is injured i think it could be possibility lambert gets the call seeing most other LHWs are tied up. if houston does end it quick against irvin i have a feeling they might put him in there seeing hes the one most likely they can sell an main event on fighting chuck.

what about lidell vs rashad. Rashad is better than most of the other 205 pounders that could be fed to lidell. Too bad the ufc didnt make tito’s last fight against Wanderlei. That would sell some PPV’s. Instead we get tito VS Machida and Wandy vs Jardine. Yippy.

I would say to give Evans a shot at Liddel, but he’s spoken for for UFC 84. Bisping is a 185er now. Gouveia sounds viable, but the really good match would be Griffin. It would settle a number of questions since Jardine lost to Griffin, but beat Liddel. Griffin lost to Ortiz, but Liddel beat Ortiz twice. And, Griffin beat Rua. Griffin is the natural choice but this fight won’t happen since Liddel is promoted by Dana and Dana can’t afford another Liddel loss. Liddel is starting a downturn in his career with losses to Rampage and Jardine. It is safe to say that his win over Silva was a decent performance but seemed contrived; like he didn’t have the same spirit as before. Dirty politics will stop this fight from happening, but hopefully people will see that someone is ducking someone here. Especially since Dana announced Griffin as a TUF 7 coach. Pretty sneaky shit going on here. Also consider that Rua was suffering from a torn ACL since last year. It’s stupid (or maybe smart) for a business person like Dana to put him up against Liddel; an exceptional striker who would capitalize on that injury.

i doubt gouveia will be the fill in, hes already booked against goran reljic and a card headlined by liddell vs gouveia could be a disaster from a marketing point

i never thought of evans but it could fly. however, i dont see evans putting up too much of a fight against chuck; his standup hasnt been looking too hot lately, and w/ chucks td Defence and chin it will be a long (or more likely short) night for sugar

If he was scared of Lidell he simply would say no to the fight. I guess you must think he had surgery just to make it believable? Get it straight Gerbil, Forrest won the fight because he fought a gimped Shogun, a guy who gassed a couple minutes into the first round.

Anyone who’s ever watched this guy fight knew there was something wrong in that Griffin fight and we all found out he had surgery on his knee right after the fight.

Shogun’s a warrior, he’ll be back and I’d hate to be the next guy he fights.

Lets all just hope Shogun can recover fully this time. I would hate to see so much talent taken off display. He should plan on doing full rehab and maybe sit a good portion of the year out just to be safe.

After an ACL surgery, your knee will never be the same. Blackbeltkarate, I’m sorry for what happened to your GF but this is MMA. I’m sure MMA is just as hard as doing taxes but it’s not the same physically. If your not 100% you can get really hurt. Unlike in taxes where if you do it wrong they just put you in jail and get gang raped… oh wait maybe they are the same.
