aoki is super sick at jujitsu and acting. I remember not too long ago he fought jz (1st time). he played up a groin kick when i thought i saw a clean kick to the stomach. their second fight i still thought jz won and the votes went to aoki. jz vs. aoki 3
even all his japanese rock antics before and after fights are pure comedy to me. the guy cracks me up. skin tight pink pants, mouthing his entrance music, and big time tears after his fights equal comedy.
it just sucks that he can kick so much ass. i would hate to be beat by him. you’d never hear the end from all your friends.

Impressive, that’s fore sure, but don’t exaggerate it. “Number one pound for pound fighter in the world”………….yeah okay! Seriously, any decent striker with take down defense would crush him! There are plenty of guys in the UFC’s 155 class who would put a beating on Aoki.

As for the submission……..again, it was impressive, but you have to consider some things.

First, it was an incredible mismatch (Japanese MMA at it’s finest) and it would be much more difficult to pull off such a move on a high caliber opponent.

Second, Aoki had him mounted for so damn long, he was purposely looking/waiting for this particular move, it wasn’t like a sweet flowing transition into a gogo (not even close), rather it looked very forced.

Third, anyone with a credible JJ background who posesses long legs can pull this move off, especially on this caliber of opponent, it almost looked like he was practicing submissions on the mat-dummy.

So again, don’t overplay it.

i agree that aoki should’t be called the #1 pound for pound. he needs to face way more top tier fighters. plus i feel he’s babied by the japenese because he’s like a rock star there. i want to see him fight in other countries as well. his record will drop i’m sure.

Csari0 I do agree alot of American fans (and british fans) are quick to boo when people lock up in a clinch or grapple battle…but at least there are points were the crowd goes wild! Like in London we were doing mexican waves, dancing singing and generally going nuts…but in Japan its like they are at the museum watching some kind of exhibition with the occasional oooohhhh and ahhh as if they were on shrums or smth. So I think both cultures could learn from one another.

yeah, all those high school wrestlers like boetsch are alot better than OLYMPIC silver medalists.

Plus the guy beat Artur Oumakhanov to reach the second round so he’s not exactly a stiff, certainly better than guys off the street like Day in the last UFC.

UFC doesn’t automatically mean top tier fighters. And no, Aoki would never get signed by UFC because even though UFC won’t admit it, they are taking a liking to strikers. Guys who aren’t “interesting” are getting cut from the roster. Sure UFC has the top 2-3 lightweights in the world, but doesn’t mean everyone in the UFC is better than Aoki. Aoki IMO is an awesome grappler, maybe better than almost everyone, he just needs work with his striking. And if you can’t neutralize Aoki from the ground, then that’s your fault. It’s obvious every fight he takes it to the ground, then just work on take down defense.

Guys, respect this fighter, and we need to agree a lot of TOP Grapplers and MMA fighters in this weights are from Japan: Genki Sudo, Sakuraba, Gomi, Rumina Sato, etc etc etc, with a lot of skills and very brave.
They fight against a lot of UFC fighters and won, so more respect with those fighters.

Anyone know what happened to Kenki Sudo? I haven’t seen or heard anything from him or about him in a while. He’s both an entertaining fighter as well as a good one. Anyone who hasn’t seen any of his matches should check him out. Very unorthodox and unconventional fighter. Wish there were more like him!
