Shinya Aoki is a Japanese mixed martial arts fighter, grappler, and former police officer. He holds a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Yuki Nakai, as well as a black belt in Judo. Aoki is scheduled to fight Gesias “JZ” Calvancante on March 15th in the first round of the DREAM Lightweight Grand Prix.

I got called out for bashing on Gerbil, but I think I’ll risk it again and call Erik a moron. What about fighters who choose to wear Gis? Are they faggots as well for wanting to utilize chokes that are otherwise unavailable? What about wrestlers who wear shoes to increase their traction, but sacrifice kicks. Shinya’s pants are an intelligent strategy. For him, he’s has decided to ‘increase the friction’ for his ‘faggot gay holds’ while making his legs more difficult to remove from other holds and take downs.
Aoki is a technician on the ground and has blended BJJ and Judo in a way only a few people in the entire world have. One of the biggest weaknesses that BJJ fighters has is their inability to take the fight to the ground where they are at an advantage. Nowadays every fighter facing a ground specialist will spend countless hours drilling ground defense and fighters like Chuck Liddell have developed these skills to well that they are almost invulnerable to a take down. Aoki uses unconventional techniques (for MMA at least) that throw them off (forgive the pun) and utilizes his superior ground game to end the fight.
Also, the man is acrobatic and throws some of the most amazing flying subs I’ve ever seen. He’s an amazing BJJ fights in competition and an incredibly entertaining fighter to watch. I’ll be looking forward to his fights to come.

Hahaha ya right. OK I came back here just because I knew what I posted would get a lot of shit back. But the fact remains that Aoki, while a good grappler is a cheater. The reason he never went to the UFC is because the UFC rules prohibit clothing that assists fighters like gi’s and wrestling shoes. Only PRIDE (and now DREAM) allowed that crap to appease it’s Japanese audience who just wanted to see a Japanese person win. What next? Should bringing brass knuckles to a match be allowed? The fact remains that 4 wins of Aoki’s are strictly based on the fact that he deems wearing ass tight pants to a match is acceptable.
