Great Fight!!! but here is my problem with boxing: great figths are few in between a bunch of boring ones.
Why not make matches 5 rounds and title fights 8 rounds. That way instead of boxers having to worry about pacing themselves and boring the crap of fans for 5 to 7 rounds, they can slug it out. I know purist of the sport would argue that it would puts certain fighters at a disadvantage but hey, if the fighter is good then he would learn to adapt.

Man I`m surprised, I thought Margarito was going to destroy Mosley. Good for Mosley a great fighter and always classy.

I just read there`s a controversy regarding Margarito`s hand wraps that allegedly plaster like inserts were discovered after the fight.

I hope for Margarito`s sake that`s not true because it will undo a great career. I`ll be keeping an ear out for the results of the pending investigation. Just what boxing needs, one of its biggest stars turning out to be a cheat.

Great fight! Those that can’t see the beauty in this are as bad or worse than the boxing fans who say MMA is like guys in a bar fight.

Thanks Bruno!

The epic fights were those of 15 rounds. There were fighters who would be able to fight all of those rounds till the end which really showed their conditioning. Even today there are fighters who can go beyond 12. A lot of fighters can fight for 5 rounds so I don’t much care for short fights. Good fights few and far between? Check out Berto’s last match against Collazo. Way better than this fight, far more competitive. Margarito/Cotto if you just like pwnage Pacquiao/De La Hoya. A lot of MMA fans seem to like destruction of an individual as opposed to a truly competitive match that flows back and forth. MMA became too marketed and full of BS hypocrisies for my taste.

Boxing and MMA are just two different sports, if you don’t like don’t watch it, but do the real fans a favor and don’t waste space posting how boring you think it is, you’re just putting your idiocy into words for the rest of us to see. That being said, Mosley has been around for quite a while now, I’m glad to see him get a nice KO. Margarito has good reach, Mosley did a good job of working around that and getting it done. THANKS FOR POSTING THIS!

sucking ignorant ass Larry Merchant said a T-shirt company was paying Oscar 5 million to appear at their MMA event and it would take more then that to get him to go to one of those events. He is so ignorant about MMA HBO needs to tell him to shut his mouth.

Once the last crop of entertaining fighters retire boxing has no interest in my eyes.

Wow. I think both of these guys are brilliant boxers, who would match up well against most MMA fighters in a boxing match. Moseley’s speed, power and explosiveness were just incredible, reminded of GSP’s athleticism.

Watching this, I really see how much more damaging boxing can be to the fighters, due both to techniques used (only strikes, only to head and torso) and number of rounds. Margarito couldn’t keep his hands up because his body had been brutalized, and the number of power shots he took to the dome over the course of the fight plus after the first knockdown may really cause some long term injury. Actually makes me sad for such a warrior.

Averagejoe — are you saying there are some MMA fighters who would be favored to beat these guys in a boxing match? If so, they’re idiots, because they could be making at least 10 times more if they were boxers instead.

That’s why I don’t think any MMA guys out there today are championship-caliber boxers.

alright, i’m tired of all these idiot MMA fans talking their shit about boxing. if its boring to you then why waste your fucken time watching it and telling us how boring it is. guess what, MMA can get boring as fuck too. like the last UFC event Henderson/Franklin, that whole show was a fucken snooze fest. for every good, exciting boxing match, there’s five boring ones. for every good MMA match, there’s 10 snooze fests. i’m a fan of both and can appreciate both sports. if you cant appreciate boxing then dont waste our time telling us how boring you think it is.

averagejoe Says, in 1-27-2009 at 22:39:47 from 96.246.181.79

Steve -

I think that these boxers are so skilled that they could beat most MMA fighters in a straight boxing match. They’re WW? Off the top of my head, I can only think of LW BJ, MW Anderson, Cung Le, Belfort, LHW Rampage, Chuck in prime, HW Arlovski, who are professional caliber boxers, but I’m sure there are more. Maybe this Aldo dude that Bruno posted up above. But bottom line, is most other MMA fighters would get torn apart in a pure boxing match with these guys (especially against Mosely).

On the other hand, I believe even a decent but not spectacular wrestler with good gnp or a bjj blue/purple belt with good takedowns would destroy these guys in an MMA fight.

great fight…boxing is definitely coming back with some of the most recent fights…all they need to do now is clean up the whole managerial aspect and I think it will once again reach it’s popularity of old.

What a fight. I just started getting into boxing through a friend who also watched mma. Evertime we would talk about ufc. I’d tell him about DREAM and Sengoku he’d tell me about the latest boxing. Eventually we agreed to tune into both for each others sake…..and man I haven’t missed one since Matweather / Dela hoya. I too cant stand PPL and their biases. If u dont like it dont comment simple. Pac man vs hatton may 2…..WAR PAQ man

LC, that’s exactly what people will think. That’s why I cringe at the thought as that was a typical Margarito dismantling of a top notch opponent.

Plaster in his wraps undoes his entire career, I really hope that’s not the case but I fear the worst here.

I hear ya Niv, I really expected Margarito (from the few fights I’ve seen of his) to take out Mosley. He looked really good against Cotto. Too good? maybe…

averagejoe, welter weight in boxing is 147lbs.

An MMA welter weight = probably between a boxing super middle weight and light heavy weight.

I love the look of scorn on Mosley’s face at :59 of RD 8. He pushes Margarito off and you can tell in his face that he knows how it will end. Classic Mosley, top notch. Now rematch with Cotto and win the Ring Belt!
