per eklund should never fight again, he’s the most boring, untalented fighter in the ufc and i thot tim silvia was bad…
like the admin says at least it made it out of the first round. eklund really needs to improve his cardio, punching(was decent, needs work though) and he needs to train wrestling and hit the drawing boards with his take down strategy, he tryed 100 times and wasnt really able to take stout down at all. beside all that he still has some hope, his kicks looked good, good jui jitsu, a big heart and those up kicks that reminded me of pride. overall ufc 80 was a pretty boring event with too many early wins. cant wait for silva-henderson though
Some respect for Team Tompkins deserved. Representing Canada. Can’t wait for April in MTL.
wow..it looks like Eklund came to sleep more than he did to fight…
I’m sorry Richard, but Eklund had HORRIBLE BJJ. Not at one point did he show any sort of skill. Sam Stout on the other hand has improved his ground game by leaps and bounds. Not long ago my BJJ instructor ran a BJJ clinic at a TKO card, murdering Stout with his ground (only to throw in the towel in the 3rd, though). Stout showed some of the best take-down defense I’ve seen in a very long time — nonetheless, Eklund’s takedowns were atrocious and he should be ashamed of himself.
i think 80 was great because of the flash wins id rather have flash wins than one sided long ass bouts
I think Stout got lured into this lacklustre affair. He is much better than that performance. He could’ve exploded and ended this fight on many occasions in my opinion. I think that was a case of playing down to your level of opponent.
that was an embarassing performance by eklund, ive seen some of his fights and hes a much better fighter than what he showed. on the other hand nice fight for stout, his td defence was pretty tight and his scrambles werent bad either
Matt “I’m sorry Richard, but Eklund had HORRIBLE BJJ. Not at one point did he show any sort of skill.” he had stout in an armbar and nearly ended the fight but stout used his power to pull out. That shows no skill? eklund needs ALOT of work and wont probly make it in the ufc but i think its funny how people talk so disrespectful and bad about him when he put on a better perfomance than half the fighters that night, look at james lee, look at fishers opponent liaudin or however its spelled . sam stouts too well rounded of a fighter for eklund to fight in the first place.
what language is this? never heard it before.
ummm..yeah
this fight is so bad… I don’t even have anything to say about it!
My fellow Canadian representing our country with skill, speed, heart, and CLASS. Many MMA fighters could take a page out of Stout’s book after a decisive victory like this.
Time to put Sammy S on the main card for sniz.
Piped.
Lol. That pathetic excuse for an attempt in Round 2? Are you kidding me? Anyone who knows BJJ will tell you that guy was atrocious. Stout has very little skill on the ground, yet manages to thwart any attempt he goes for. Honestly, watching him lay on the ground just put European fighters back in terms of UFC cred, Eklund really had a shameful performance and how he was ever picked to fight Stout amazes me.
Matt “That pathetic excuse for an attempt in Round 2? Are you kidding me?” no im not kidding you, he had his arm fully extended and had it locked. whats pathetic is his cardio and takedown/wrestling/g and p skills. How does him gassing or not getting the takedown mene his jui jitsu’s bad? if your such a bjj expert than you should know that armbar could of easily ended the fight if he had better grip on stouts wrist. i agree eklands a bad fighter, but anyone can see that was a well executed armbar. i should of said he has some decent jui jitsu skills, instead of saying he has some good jui jitsu skills, there you happy
What the f#$*. After you attempt 20 takedowns unsucessfully, give up, stand up and bang. Don’t lay on your back with your hands behind your head as if your BJJ is worht a s*^$. Nice job Stout Eklund go to smaller shows, you aint ready for the big time!
JD,
I can tell your not a fighter, the remarks you made about eklund never fighting in the UFC again show that you are not a fighter and would never be one.Wait sorry your web fighter.
Also Tim as more skills in his ball sak then you could ever dream about having in your life, you know you would love to have the skills that they have, thats why you sit and write about them.If you ever grow the balls to try to train like a real fighter your more then welcome to stop by the gym and see if you can hang with guys who fight not talk not internet fighting real fighting. -Rkeegan
Wow, this fight was disgusting, Eklund was just disgusting in this fight. He can’t strike for shit, he couldn’t use his BJJ effectively at all and his Takedowns were completely shit. Worse is that he made the fight extremely stupid and boring. Over and over, a failure of a takedown if you even call it that, where he ends up lying down. Sam steps back for him to get back up. Eklund gets up and they stand up for maybe 5 seconds and Eklund goes for another retarded fail takedown and lies on his back once again. Like WTF?! COME ON, STOP FUCKING LYING DOWN AND TRY TO FUCKING FIGHT. Especially since it is the last fucking round and he was losing. It should be panic mode and you want a Knockout bad, but no, I think that during the last 30 seconds of the fight, that Sam will jump into my arm bar and tap out!
Eklunds Cardio/coaches are both not at an outstanding level. Why do his coaches keep screaming for him to shoot? Why do they say into the third round that Sam Stout is tired, Comon who’s the tired one? Why won’t they tell him to brawl, to actually keep it standing, I don’t know I had such high belives in Eklund, maybe the pressure was to high? Keep shooting like that and loosing all of his gas, just feels stupid, I blame the coaches though.
