The nine-bout event kicked-off the first round of the Sengoku lightweight grand prix. It is an eight-man tournament to determine an opponent to take on Japanese superstar Takanori Gomi for the vacant World Victory Road lightweight championship.

overall, when there’s a knockout in Japan, I get the feeling the ref is in there to stop it way faster than in the American shows. Seems like the refs in the American shows are pretty far away from the fighters when it happens, same with the tap sometimes.

I felt that crack from way over here in the states…Schultz might have to go into rehab after that fight b/cuz he got CRACKED!! OUCH!
Schultz was doing OK until the knockout – He needs to work on his conditioning, he was getting gassed.

Why so much Schultz hate he is a stand up guy and overall a nice person.
I have a feeling all the IFL stats big shots will lose sooner rather than later. Horodecki will win his next match against Dan Lauzon but beyond that Hieron, Roy Nelson, Gunderson and many other big name guys there will be seen for what they truly are…… Average.

IFL champ got beat by a mid level Jap fighter. I can’t believe theres still some people out there in some forums that say Japanese fighters are no good at MMA. IMO, they shouldn’t categorize fighters by which ethnic group is better, if a person’s a good fighter, then they’re good. No need to diss an ethnic group.
rawr, you hit the nail on the head. who cares what race you are, if you can fight thats all that matters. I like Schultz, but he just got rocked. IFL sucks.

Hirota came to fight, Schultz hit him with some good shots and he kept composure and fired right back. Hirota won the war of chins.

I would say good fight, regardless of nationality
Monster of a right cross, Schultz just got caught flush and it was nighty-night time.
Still, he showed good technique and heart, but he was definitely looking a bit gassed there. Hope he bounces back from the loss. Hirota was a very solid fighter on the night, great stand-up.
