Classic infomercial for BJJ…I love how Royce could have had a RNC, armbar, or triangle at anytime he liked but chose to punish the poor sap.
Classic video.
thanks for sharing that.
absolutely classic
grappling baby!
made quick work of that guy
old clip but still awesome repost.
And that is why the Gracies have been so dominant.
Raw Jiujitsu street fight style, cant F*** with it
that was mean!! WAR GRacie
owned . . time for me to stop watching kung-fu theater
Stop saying Gung-Fu!
My chineese friends say Gong-Fu as well, so I guess that’s the right pronounciation if someone wants to be original
Almost all if not 100% of fights goes to the ground… Jiujitsu rules! =D
Was this before or after UFC 2?
I bet Bruce Lee can kick his ass…
Just kidding, my friends still think Bruce Lee is the greatest fighter that ever existed.
…gotta give some credit to the kf guy, he put up a struggle… I think it was also a rematch? Right?
My buddy used to train with Jason Delucia, I live in a town where he works at the gym teaching Jiu Jitsu or something.
MMA has come a long way since then. Now days you need more than one art to be competitive.
Seems BJJ & boxing are the most effective combination and a bit of Muy Thai. Royce showed people where MMA was headed at that time and beat many guys much larger than him

this was befor
This video was before UFC 2 in which Royce beat the same guy, Jason Delucia ( with a “red sash” in 5 animal Kung Fu) with an armbar while basicly standing on his head. That fight is what drove me to take BJJ for the past 13 years.
I don’t know what Kung Fu style this guy was trained but I study it for many years and the guys stance and hands postions are total wrong but anyways he still got owned. MMA today is what Bruse Lee vision of Jeet Kune Do was to be, it just shows how ahead of his time Bruce was and that’s why he is one of the greatest fighters in history. You can’t take anything away from Royce Gracie it didn’t matter the size of someone he was always up for the challenge.
I didn’t see that guy doing any kung fu
“almost all, if not 100% of fights end up on the ground”
Actually, that is a stat straight from the Gracies themselves. Most street fights don’t end up on the ground, school fights and backyard fights do. Bar fights, alleyway fights, subway fights(where real people and real hoods are) don’t end up on the ground and they are over in seconds. (and yes, some end on the ground, but not many. Most fights either go south to fast to hit the ground or end up with one of the fighters running away)
this a classic. I love the one vs. the little kempo instructor as well–the guy wont quit, demands 3 fights and gets choked out 3 times in a row.
shouldve one inch punched royce from the bottom position. that’ll knock the wind outta him
That not Kung Fu, knowing how to kick and stand is not Kung fu. if that is kung fu then everyoen in here know it. pick some guy doesnot know shit to fight with a bjj wow that very good bjj.
kid, It’s pronouced gung fu in chinese and since gung fu originated in China it’s correct.
that guy wasnt even chinese, and hes called a kung fu expert?
whoever calls that real street fight, get over yourself, in a real fight they will bite and kick your nuts
were i can get the complete documental
that was a merciless beating that was dished out there
One thing that has to be kept in mind is that Kung fu is Dirty… as in do anything to survive… that is practiced and trained over and over…. a fight like this does favor BJJ….
I have seen a streetfight where a wrestler picked on a smaller Wing chun practitioner (my friend knew him)…. when the wrestler went in for the shoot… the Kung fu guy did this awesome shit…he stepped backwards punching the wrestler in the back of the head at the sametime… Knocking him the F*** out… this happened FAST!!!
because of this I will rewatch the royce, sakuraba fight.
Everybody needs to remember that the this is a PROMOTIONAL video made by the Gracies themselves. In a way, it’s a little bit like the beginning of the UFC. The Gracies smartly target fighters from “martial arts” schools that were nothing but a money makiking scheme.
I think the two most important things the Gracies did had nothing to do with fighting, but with a great attempt to demolish the dirty commercialization of martial arts. Whe they call that guy a Kung Fu (Bruce Lee’s first gym was Gong Fu) specialist is an overstatement, but the guy himself realy tought he knew kung fu. But, it’s like getting a black belt in Karate these days. Very few, and mean very few indeed, karate masters are actually any good and really know karate as a fighting art and not as a sport. The same thing happened in all martial arts, including BJJ.
Only Krav Maga masters really tried to keep real control of the art, not very successfully, though.
Now, the same thing is happening with MMA. Lots of new gyms promising MMA training and they are worthless. However, thanks for the Gracies and the Vale Tudo championships, you can put your learning to the test and find out if you are in a good gym or not.
Since 95% of all fights end up on the ground, that just goes to show that to be an exceptional striker is very hard to come by. In observing the M.A.A. / U.F.C. strikers, in order for them to beat a grappler, merely using striking arts, they will have to deliver their strikes alot quicker, land with devastating impact, have a mastery of timing and distance dynamics, and be pinpoint accurate. Only 5% of fighters possess that kind of ability; i.e. Bruce Lee.
All fighters who are into the striking arts would do well to parallel their training with ground fighting skills. 95% of strikers will never be as good as Bruce Lee, and have that uncanny ability to knock out an opponent, defeat an opponent, just merely using striking skills.
Tell that to shogun.
