Roy “Big Country” Nelson vs. Fabricio Werdum Fight Video UFC 143.
Not taking anything away from Verdum in that fight (which he looked damn decent in, BTW), but the nuthugging was particularly exaggerated on the part of Mike and Joe. Roy connected with a number of EXCELLENT shots, and a few times had Werdum in some serious trouble, and they either mentioned it in passing, or just kept mum about it altogether. Pretty bad favoritism here, all the more bizarre considering how much credit they usually give Nelson…
Damn, FW has evolved like crazy since we last saw him in the ufc..i wanna see him fight Cain next.
WOOOW!! Werdum looked fantastic.
OK, I respect Roy. He can take a shot. But come on man, respect yourself. Lose the fat.
he is not human (deep Russian accent)….hahaha man nelson is a machine.
r**** and left for dead…
Damn. Roy needs to drop 40 lbs.
Good Fight!!!
Good job Roy, you’re a tough guy.
Next time, avoid the knees… and you’ll win.
Werdum is a moving mountain…
gj by werdum.
nelson has a better chin then a truck.
Joe rogan is a dick riding f*****, F*** gayfc
Yet another example of why a 230 lb weight class is needed. There are too many good fighters in this weight range that can’t make 205 or don’t want to try, and most cannot compete with the biggest skilled guys out there. Cro Cop, Pat Berry, Fedor, Roy, Velasquez, Mir, etc — I think all these fighters would do better in in 230 lb class. AND, more classes means more fights.
Werdum looked really, really sharp on his feet and I was surprised he could throw knees like that. Roy needs to start covering up or he’s going to end up with Parkinson’s.
the guys converted 20lbs of fat to muscle within his last 2 fights give him some time jeez, u dont simply just drop all the fat off your body and boom your inshape. its a long process if done correctly.
If Roy truly wanted to go for anything he needs to get down to 205; without the fat he is small compared to most in HW division. He would truly I think shake up the 205 and not just be a punching bag or fat joke tag for mma. I want this guy to hae a real chance. Not about looking like Reem but more like being able to keep up with the new breed of cardio machines coming into the UFC.
I am now a fan of Werdum, and Roy Nelson is my childhood hero forever!
@Sans
I totally agree.each weightclasses have a gap of 15 pounds between them but the HW has a gap of 60 pounds.206-230 should be HW and 230+ should be super HW.But there’s always the argument that there might not be enough guys. And also that the last 2 HW champs are under 240 pounds. But if there is enoguh guys I don’t thnik it should be a problem having a HW and SHW class.
Ya i really think roys gotta go down to 205. Hes too small to compete properly. Right now he reminds me of homer when he became a boxer and would win by just taking so many punches his opponent would give up from exaustion.
Its really not a healthy way to fight. He ate a ton of knees.
First time I see Werdum actually doing everything he is capable of doing without having a brain fart. The guy is extremely talented and can be a top 3 HW if he keeps his brain focused.
Nelson is a tank, but he is too small. It’s a big disadvantage in a fight when your head is so close to the other guy’s knee.
A new category could help, but he and Barry will always be short anywhere they go, even in 205. They need to get faster and work on MMA cardio to outlast the big guys.
Fat PIG got taken to the slaughter house…GOOD.
@Sans Although I don’t disagree on the weight class suggestion, 5 from 6 names you mentioned are former hevyweight title holders (2ufc/2pride/1ifl) so saying they cannot compete is not really a good choice of words imo.
Roy is tough as nails, and Werdum is improving.
Nelson always looks near exhaustion, he needs to get in shape. Sure he can compete, but he’d be a different person if he was fit.
@FedorFailsAgain: Aside from the retarded name ya got there, buddy, that has to be hands down the dumbest…literally dumbest… comment I’ve heard on here…
…and I’ve heard Diego Sanchez talk…
I was looking forward to big country doing the belly rub :/
Big Country Boy Roy got lit like a bonfire with those knees! =D
Honestly the fight was much closer than Rogan and Goldberg were admitting to. I gave Roy round 2. They pretty much ignored all of Roy’s significant strikes and touted Werdum’s less than effective stuff. I honestly think Werdum won, but not like they were calling it. And Rogan has turned into a biased bastard. Claiming Werdum did more damage the JDS? I used to like him, the last 2 years I’ve despised him.
@mmafan: True, several of those fighters mentioned were title holders, but only briefly or as interim title holders or in various smaller organizations. Also, I was careful to add the “skilled” part because I think it’s only in recent years that there have been a number of athletic big guys with really well rounded skills. I just don’t see a guy who fights best at 225-230 being able to take on someone like Junior dos Santos or Alistair Overeem. It’s not impossible, just unlikely. At the very least I think a 230 lb class is something to try.
Maybe Werdum is just a better fighter then Roy?
Roy has a tough chin but I don’t like seeing people getting battered that way.
Them knees were hard! Brain damage type injuries.
40 lbs? Then what? hows he gonna get through Bones Jones who’s just as much a towering beast as Werdum is. Maybe drop to 185 imo
Viking I have no idea which fight you were watching. Sometimes Rogan does ride one fighter way too much, but in this fight, he was just commentating on the action. If Nelson got a good shot, he would note it. But frankly, this was a very one sided fight. Nelson was really just hanging in there and was not competitive after the first few minutes. Gritty performance by Roy, excellent performance by Werdum.
@FailSonnen He has a much better chance against the fighters at 205 then he does against the ‘heavy weights’. They really should make a 225-235 heavyweight division.
The more important difference between the heavyweights is that they are all naturally 235lbs of muscle and up. Roy is just fat. They also have a ton of reach on him.
Roy Nelson 6’0
Dan henderson 5′ 11
Shogun 6′ 1/2
Rampage jackson 6’1
Lyoto Machida 6’1
Little Nog 6’2
John Jones 6’4
Randy Couture 6’1
Shane Carwin 6’2
Frank Mir 6’3
Big Nog 6’3
Brock Lesnar 6’3
Jr. Dos Santos 6’4
Fabricio Werdum 6’4
Alistar Overreem 6’5
It’s not his weight or size… it’s just his limitations… you’re not going to win too many fights when your one weapon is your overhand right and all your opponent has to do is move to his left and keep his left hand up. He’s from the brawler school and I don’t think that will work anymore in this age.
i agree with rogan Roy may have the best chin in mma, if this fight didn’t prove that then go back and watch the jds fight, that being said i think the ability absorb punishment will only take you so far. I cant understand why he doesn’t just lose the weight and start fighting guys his own size…a slim Roy could possibly fight at middleweight and imagine the success he could achieve at that weight class
I do believe I would give my left testicle if I could read the comments for a fight and not see whining about commentary nut-hugging.
I mean seriously? Does it have any impact on the fight?
And if it bothers you so much, why not just turn off the volume?
Oh, right, because then you couldn’t bitch about it.
