Roy Nelson vs. Fabricio Werdum Added To UFC 143 Card

A bout between Roy Nelson (16-6 MMA, 3-2 UFC) and the returning popular heavyweight Fabricio Werdum (14-5-1 MMA, 2-2 UFC) has been added for February’s UFC 143 event.


As expected, Werdum will move from Strikeforce to the UFC, where he fought from 2007 to 2008.

UFC 143 will take place the night before this year’s Super Bowl, Feb. 4, at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The event’s main card airs on pay-per-view, and includes Nelson vs. Werdum on the broadcast.

UFC 143 card currently includes:

Carlos Condit vs. Nick Diaz (for interim welterweight title)
Josh Koscheck vs. Mike Pierce
Roy Nelson vs. Fabricio Werdum
Renan Barao vs. Scott Jorgensen
Erik Koch vs. Dustin Poirier
Alex Caceres vs. Edwin Figueroa
Jorge Lopez vs. Amir Sadollah
Rafael Natal vs Michael Kuiper

I’d like to see how Roy Nelson vs Werdum plays out on the ground. I remember Nelson beat Mir at a grappling tournament back when he wasn’t a fat phuck.

@wow: Sorry, but he was a fat phuck and he would probably have done better against Mir in the UFC if he wasn’t so sick. I’m not going to say he would win, but definitely he would have done better.
Anyway, it’s an interesting match, but if Werdum uses his brain, he will probably die. I think Nelson takes this one. Werdum has the talent and the skills, but his head is hollow.

Hmm. A very interesting fight. Nelson is underrated and will probably pull out a win against Werdum. I forget how Werdums stand up is..isn’t he primarily a ground fighter? I mean it’s mma and you have to be good at everything, but i would easily give the striking advantage to Nelson…and he can hold his own on the ground. Nelson by unanimous decision.

Man this is gonna be debated for a long time. After Big Country subs or TKOs Werdum will he be considered the GOAT? Should be a good match. Nelson is untouchable on the ground if for no other reason than his awkward build and ridiculously deceptive cardio. Add to that the fact he is one of the most technically sound fighters on the mat and you get a what is essentially a minivan laying on you for 15 minutes or until he crucifies and TKOs you.

werdum will beat nelson…..he has the better groundgame and his stand up technique is good. nelson has more power in his punches, but werdum will submit him.

Werdum is a world bjj champion. On paper Werdum can beat any HW on the ground. Werdum’s striking is also improving. Werdum could not stand with Overeem or Dos Santos, but for sure can with Nelson. He did tko Gonzaga after all.
I like Nelson, but I do not see him winning this fight.

Kos is gonna smash Pierce…Not even a fair fight..The rest of the fights is alright..not good but alright..besides the main event and co main event..this card would be like a D+..the 2 main event fighters would get wrecked by Kos or Fitch..Jus saying..

on the ground its even maybe but in the standup I give the edge to werdum….but the thing that nelson has goind is, that he can take a huge beaitng…bad for his health and will make him dumber every fight but werdum will have trouble…so it will be interesting to see what happens when werdum notices that he cannot take nelson out…and then if nelson pressures him in the standup…wuh lets see
