wow… they let him go?? that is so uncool!! a threat like him is needed.. people have vicious knock out that ends careers.. this guy has a vicious ankle lock that fks people up.. the only person I would be nervous about fighting GSP..

You never mean to hurt anybody Roussimar… but you do

ThunderbayMMA Says, in 10-11-2013 at 08:25:04 from

I think Dana jumped the gun and was pressured by all of the backlash on this one. No sub bonus and a one fight contract extended would had made more sense.

Twana Says, in 10-11-2013 at 08:42:07 from

Stupid as ufc and its idiot dana white….
There are sooooooooooooooooo many fights in which the winning fighter did not stop immediately at the referee’s command. After all Palhares did not break his ankle. So, it as usual as fxxx dana and his group of pimps.

KungFuLowKick Says, in 10-11-2013 at 09:15:40 from

I don’t buy the “I’m too much of a retard to know when to let go of a submission”
If Rousimar was that retarded, he would’ve never got that good in BJJ. You need intelligence to become a high level grappler. That guy is just a rutheless asshole who likes to hurt people.

dragoman Says, in 10-11-2013 at 09:21:25 from

ufc made the right decision, this guy is a repeat offender, and cutting him sets a precedent

AOPrinciple Says, in 10-11-2013 at 09:50:58 from

A heel hook isn’t really a heel lock; it twists and eventually tears knee ligaments. No offense, but if you didn’t know that then you just don’t understand how dangerous that move is and what a scary thing it is that Palhares wouldn’t let go.

TheGMan Says, in 10-11-2013 at 10:18:08 from

I don’t know what kind of guy Palhares is, but I do know that he has had issues in the past letting go of submissions after a tap and Wednesday nights repeat was completely egregious. After watching it a few times on Thursday morning I thought he should probably be cut.

d Says, in 10-11-2013 at 10:46:34 from

i know the guys he dose so much steroids. he has a crybaby attitude. u can see it before the match and almost every match. he gets steroids emotions and really is such a baby. he trys to hurt people he dont even spar because his hands are so dodo. he just trys to hurt his team mates because the tag him in a sparring match. he tryed that on me yes im a heavy guy but i slap jacked his ass

Now, Palhares vs Daley, somewhere in a dark alley promotion.

Steve Says, in 10-11-2013 at 12:13:55 from

This has always been a hot topic for me and I have always wondered why the Honorable Royce Gracie has never been scrutinized by this. He was the absolute worst at not letting go of submissions. Several fights the ref had to rip him of people after several seconds. I appreciate what he has accomplished and done for the sport, but I have no respect for him as a fighter.

casyboy Says, in 10-11-2013 at 12:41:53 from

mmafan11 Says, in 10-11-2013 at 13:35:37 from

He had it for less than 3 secs.

Dana is cutting a good fighter because he has Master Slave attitude.

Fighters Union NFL, NHL, NBA & MLB type Revenue Share and Player rights.

Not some Dictatorship as exists today.

Pdiddly Says, in 10-11-2013 at 16:07:15 from

@dub The backlash was Dana seeing PH hold on to ANOTHER crippling submission AGAIN after his decades long history of holding onto submissions too long. Like buddy said, a heel hook tears up the knee, not the ankle (dimwits). Minimum recovery time is like 6 to 8 months, IF he recovers at all. Hey MMAFAN11, how about I put that hold on you for 3 or 4 seconds? It will feel like 300 years when your tapping and I’m shredding your knee apart dumbass

KungFuLowKick Says, in 10-11-2013 at 16:23:06 from

I would love to see you getting your knee destroyed for an extra 3 seconds. The only reason he stopped is becasue the ref physically pulled him off.

mmafan11 Says, in 10-11-2013 at 17:17:08 from

I have hold by Gracie Black Belts for more than 3 seconds.

The 3 secs or less was from when the hold went Full On,

The Ref is the one who is supposed to stop the fight not by an opponent tapping,

Only the Ref can stop the hold and he did after the Ref jumped on him.

@Pdiddly come to my Gym and your welcome to roll and try that Hold on me :)

KungFuLowKick Says, in 10-11-2013 at 19:03:03 from

“I have hold by Gracie Black Belts for more than 3 seconds.”

WTF does that mean. You’re not fooling anybody. We all know the only training you have is with your wrist on a computer…

nexstory Says, in 10-11-2013 at 19:58:50 from

I didn’t see malicious intent by Palhares from watching the video. As soon as the referee intervened he began the release. When two men are tangled up together the separation interval is greater than when one man has a dominant position over the other.

wreckitralph Says, in 10-11-2013 at 20:56:38 from

All I can say is training is different than a fight. I can tell you having your knee destroyed sucks. All you can do is tap and hope your opponent has enough respect not to shred your ligaments…

kill666 Says, in 10-11-2013 at 20:58:13 from

this is f*cking wrong. yes he did hold it but you should never let go a submission in till the referee stop you, everybody who trains knows that, when you fight your condition to make sure you finish the fight you just dont let go. in any case its the referees fault and the whole martial arts industry.

mrl3 Says, in 10-11-2013 at 21:37:01 from

Watch Palhares eyes. He sees the ref and pulls up on the ankle after seeing the ref. Definitely unnecessary! If it breaks it breaks…But what Palhares did was equivalent to continuously punching a man who’s knockout after the ref jumps in. White made the correct decision.

Meat Drapes Says, in 10-11-2013 at 21:42:01 from

There is a reason why BJJ instructors don’t allow anyone but a higher belt level to even practice heel hooks, you can destroy someone knee for good without even knowing you did it.
Palhares has already ruined someone’s knee because he refused to let go.

Would you fight a guy you know would let go of a choke after you tap?

Some of you posers have obviously never put on a gi or rolled.

Palhares stopped promptly when the ref told him to stop and the opponents tapped.
Palhares is not guilty.
Dana White is guilty.

Stankyleg Says, in 10-12-2013 at 00:30:17 from

Palhares Held the submission for at least 2 seconds after the ref had touched him to stop the fight! A HEEL HOOK (not an ankle lock) is the most dangerous submission there is. You can easily break someones ankle, knee, femur and tear ligaments all the way up someones leg without holding it for too long. Not only is this the 2nd time Palhares has done this exact same thing in the UFC; But he has done it in Grappling Competition as well! Not to mention trying to referee his own fight against Dan Miller. And! to put the cherry on the cake He doesnt even understand what he did wrong! This guys nickname (Tree Stump) fits him perfectly, Cause he has about the same IQ as one!

Can’tGetOut Says, in 10-12-2013 at 00:59:10 from

You talked it up mmafan11, MeatDrapes called your bluff. Either put up or shut up! I have a feeling though, you will do neither…

mmafan400 Says, in 10-12-2013 at 01:39:07 from

It’s not about holding the submission until the ref gets there, it’s about that he pushed it, and he held it for a good second when the ref was on top of him. He doesn’t mean to hurt anyone, he’s just rough, and may be a liability to the UFC unfortunately. I support Dana’s decision, because this isn’t the first time. Palhares can do this kind of stuff in BJJ, but not in MMA.

son Says, in 10-12-2013 at 11:07:49 from

BJ Penn Vs. Jens Pulver II? I’m a BJ fan too. He held the choke I think and didn’t get cut. Heel hook may be considered more dangerous. More rehab vs passing out

Musclefixer Says, in 10-13-2013 at 00:11:55 from

Paul Harris doesn’t seem the brightest bulb in the store.
Watch his Avellan fight posted above, and see for yourself.
Not sure I’d like a restart in a heel hook position, but whatever.
Hate him? Watch the Allan Belcher or Lombard fight over and over.

Facefrack Says, in 10-13-2013 at 01:03:26 from

Glad to see such an outpouring of responses about this. What a tough call! On the one hand, it may very well have been the media backlash that pressured Dana White to cut him, even though I’ve heard scathing distaste for Palhares come out of his mouth with my own ears. If it wasn’t that, I think that the main reason must be that Palhares is a specialist in a technique that is too dangerous for everyone that he fights. I agree that leglocks should be allowed, but it is definitely tragic when someone doesn’t just have a bad night because they were KO’d, but because they had a career ending injury from a heel hook or knee bar. It’s too bad, because if Palhares can hone his wrestling a bit more n get some more fluid stand-up striking skills, he could be just about as dangerous as anyone fighting at Welterweight in any organization.

G Says, in 10-13-2013 at 03:19:17 from

What he did here and has done in numerous fights before is the equivalent of knocking a guy unconscious and still hitting him as the ref is attempting to pull you away. So I respectfully say…. F*** YOU PALHARES ya damn one trick pony go do metamoris.

No Technique Monkey Says, in 10-13-2013 at 14:39:18 from

Roosimao Paulharris has no good technique, he just uses strength moves (well only 1 – heel hook)bolstered by steroid power. This guy is a donkey.
