If Rory beats Jake with a jab that badly then Jake never deserves a shot a GSP cause GSP will do the same bloody thing and bust up both orbitals . Safe fight for Rory (booo) but Jake your in the UFC man looking for a title shot wtf brother….doooo something.

LIke it has been said. Fighting in the UFC now has specific formulas to win. It is no longer the ultimate fighter. It is the ultimate strategist. We fell in love with this sport because it was for warriors, not GSP, Greg Jackson strategies. I am not saying that fighting is easy and I never fought outside of the karate mat in points tournaments. Come on guys, this was ridiculous for both guys. Jake goes full throttle on Marquardt, a guy that is dangerous everywhere and he lets a jab captivate him. And Rory is the next generation but does not try to win a fight. If this is the future, then I will be stuck in the past. As in another link Bruno posted with Rampage, the heroes of old are now gone. Liddell, Page, Waderlai (almost), Shogun (almost), even guys like Randleman. These dudes came full throttle.

PowerTele said it correctly. The spirit of the sport is fading. The warriors of the past are gone (well, like he said – almost). The Wanderlai and Brian Stann fight was the last one that really had me on my feet. This fight was duuuuuuuullllll.

Someone please beat Rory up!

armdaddy Says, in 7-28-2013 at 11:16:17 from

It has become, just as most things, a business. Not always good for the spectator, but good for the fighter. Now days fighters are doing things to extend their careers. All out fighters tend not to last long. Again not always good for the spectator. Increased skill levels have also added to the necessity of a game plan.

B-O-R-I-N-G! Having trouble getting to sleep at night? Save this on you DVR and play it back. Snoozer!

KungFuLowKick Says, in 7-28-2013 at 11:48:14 from

No fighting spirit in that match. If Rory is the “future” then I’m done with MMA. Really your going to jab the guy for 3 rounds? That’s not what fighting is about. Martial arts were created to defend yourself and beat your opponent. Rory didn’t beat Jake, he found a technique Jake wasn’t good at defending and used it all night. He wasn’t there to fight or hurt Jake, and that’s a real shame. Fighters shoukld fight like if the ring is their home and the opponent is a robber. If a guy breaks in your house, you won’t jab him and keep your reach, you would try to destroy him.

Just funny cause jakes takedown in the last round was the most significant moment of the fight

ThatGuy Says, in 7-28-2013 at 15:20:29 from

Remember people, don’t hate the player hate the game. My blame rests squarely on the shoulders of the UFC owners. They are the ones that have allowed their company to evolve in this direction (point fighting).

Why change things if you are still pocketing huge amounts of cash hand over fist. They have the power to stop this downturn in how fights are going. Even though you KNOW a GSP fight will be a snore fest you still tune in (buy PPV).

Long story short. Start putting the blame where it belongs. Fighters are going to do whatever they can not to lose. If only they did whatever it took to win. Get used to it, this Jackson camp BS isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Sammy Says, in 7-28-2013 at 17:19:47 from

Jake should have tried more takedowns, he had a deep double which he abandoned in the 2nd and he got Rory down pretty easily in the 3rd. I think Ellenberger just choked big time in this fight.

Gummo-815 Says, in 7-28-2013 at 17:35:14 from

The UFC needs to instate finish bonuses and bring in the pride style yellow cards and take 10% of the fighters purse for stalling. Cash motivates.

shocktime Says, in 7-28-2013 at 18:03:57 from

Bruno posted a video with Wanderlei after his fight over Stann. He’s talking about the love of the sport, putting on a show for the fans, not caring so much about winning or losing, anyways it was really deep and heart felt. Rory and Jake need to watch that thing about 10 times after this fight.

dub Says, in 7-28-2013 at 22:05:34 from

This isn’t UFC’s fault is it? Its mma in general. I still don’t see anyone in any MMA organization beating Rory or GSP right now even with their boring style. Although I find their fights quite exciting.

trustus Says, in 7-28-2013 at 23:27:16 from

GSP fights aren’t snore fests, wtf you idiots talking about. He does it all, out wrestles wrestlers, out strikes strikers, etc etc. He doesn’t just stand there. Royce Gracies whole shtick revolved on getting his opponent to the ground. GSP performs all martial arts disciplines with ease. shut the F*** on criticizing him. and i’m not a gsp dick rider, just someone that hespects a talented mixed martial artist.

Joker Says, in 7-28-2013 at 23:43:36 from

Another Canadian winning via snoozefest how I didn’t predict this I don know. Anyway jake should stop calling Hendricks out after that performance, i don’t want to see him fight ever again.

Facefrack Says, in 7-29-2013 at 00:31:26 from

Sometimes fights just go this way. We’ve seen Anderson Silva n Rampage Jackson n many many others come in n just feel unable to find that core intensity n drive, or see aspects of the others’ game that are confounding. This still really wasn’t a fun fight to watch at all though.

Sounds like you’d criticize Batman for not using Kryptonite to fight Superman, too.

“Dude should have just hit him with an overhand right!” oy.

@spacedread Says, in 7-29-2013 at 09:35:13 from

Jake Ellenberger has got a seriously big noggin, which doesn’t help when you’ve got Rory Mac-D targeting it with the jab! He couldn’t really miss that ting.

(I wouldn’t say that to his face obviously), however Ellenberger’s corner should have been screaming at him, ‘look dread, you need to fling your entire body at him, you is two rounds in the hole and the only way you’re gonna win is by sucking the judges piece like it’s your mumma’s teet or knocking macdonald out, choice is yours rude boy!!!”

Omin_NFLD Says, in 7-29-2013 at 14:32:20 from

Hey Joker!! Needs to ask man. whats being Canadian have to do with a boring fight?? lol. i would say typical American remark but i guess that would make me no better than you!!

Joker Says, in 7-29-2013 at 16:13:11 from

@0min_nfld wait, is rory not a Canadian? or am I missing something here. If I see a asian stinking it up I’m going to say asian guy is stinking it up and so on. So if your trying to ask if I have anything against Canadian the answer is no , but I do like their igloo house that they live in.

honestly i would just prefer if my coaches tell me i was down two rounds, atleast then adjusting the strategy is possible.

Tankless Says, in 7-29-2013 at 20:26:40 from

Right on Newf …sick of it myself.

H8ON Says, in 7-29-2013 at 21:36:43 from

@Omin… Its not about ragging on Canadians as much as they put on jab fests. We should have seen this coming since they been ramming the idea that Rory is the next GSP. Then he goes and proves them right with this jab fest. Burger looked good taking him down in the 3rd and should have done it more instead of sean Sherking the place up.

If your a wrestler then wrestle, or atleast try and wrestle. Its crazy the amount of wrestlers that get KO’s and almost neglect the things that made them good in the first place. Funny because this was the fight I looked forward to the most and it was a snoozer. Rory is wack and I for one cant wait till Condit whoops that ass again.

Rob Says, in 7-30-2013 at 01:11:48 from

Oh H8ON, you add personal bias to the otherwise forward bloggers. What else have you wished for recently? I’d love to bet against you and everyone dying for that faint chance Condit might beat Rory again. I agree with your perspective regarding fights but ease off fighters’ nuts, whether you hate or love em. They sure don’t give a F*** about you or I. I don’t give a damn what they say, dress like, behave like or do outside of the octagon. I tune in to MacDonald’s fights because he makes his opponents look silly and inferior. I appreciate excellent technique and timing
