@keef: no the reason women’s MMA is not at the same level as men’s is because they have much less support, both financially and culturally, to embrace their careers. It’s much harder for them to say “screw it, I am training full time” than it is for men (and it’s not easy for men either). However, when you don’t have a serious venue that will pay a half-salary to fight, it makes it almost impossible to have women dropping their jobs to train.

wow i got my elbow dislocated (not from an armbar, from a bad fall wrestling) and I was yelling out a lot. It was incredibly painful. Ronda Rousey is a killer and Julia Budd is a warrior. Both represent women’s mma very well.
I’ve also watched this several times. I don’t understand the uproar. The ref stopped it when Budd tapped. She didn’t wait excessively long as some of you are suggesting. She saw the tap and stopped the fight. Budd wasn’t tapping when she was on her stomach.

You should rewatch the end.she definetly taps on her stomach.Then she sees that the Girafe doesnt do anything so she tried to roll out and only when we saw her forearm detached from her elbow that she finally decided she had to stop it.The girafe did the same thing in a UFC fight( I don’t remeber who,I just remember that a guy fell flat on the ground and the girafe didn’t move to stop the fight until the other dude punched him 2-3 more times).She is almost as dangerous as Mazagati.Some people here whine when Herb stops fights way too early but he knows what he’s doing not like Miss Girafe here.A ref’s job is that bpth fighters finish the night and are not in the hospital.So when a ref sees a fighter too stuborn to tap,the ref should stop the fight.And Miss Girafe did worst than that,she didnt even see her tapping.Again that’s what you get when you take reffing classes from Mazagati…

Budd was tapping on her stomach – its obvious and its unbelievable the ref didn’t get it earlier with all the hype about Rousey and armbars going into the fight, knowing what Rousey would be going for, seeing her gain the position, seeing her take the arm….I mean WTF more does she need?
Is she an MMA ref or just as effective as having an actual giraffe in there…
