Ronda Rousey Signs With UFC, Strikeforce Dead After Last Event In January

The Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion is done fighting for Strikeforce and is set to make her UFC debut in the near future, TMZ reported Thursday night. TMZ claims that the recently announced Jan. 12 Strikeforce card in Oklahoma City will be the promotion’s last. MMAFighting.com has also confirmed the story to be true.


UFC president Dana White was very hesitant in the past to even consider forming a women’s division in the UFC, but the emergence of Rousey has apparently changed his mind.

Dana White’s stance has been predicated on a belief that there aren’t enough high-level female fighters to build deep enough divisions to warrant having them in the UFC. But it has been Rousey who has, as he has admitted, forced him to take another look.

No official word has come yet from the UFC or Strikeforce on Rousey’s signing yet.

I like the female league in UFC but I cannot stand how they suck up all of these other organizations. Competition is what makes us great. They are acting just like Walmart, and eventually Walmart became one big crap hole.

She has been signed with Zuffa/UFC that is old news. She was the only women fighting for strikeforce or strikeforce fighter period who was signed under the UFC but F*** its all Zuffa so what is the big deal. They need to sign a lot more before ppl get excited because it sounds like 1 super fight with Cyborg for a Big PPV event to me right now but I hope he has plans to open a women’s division. If he does not then my new AR-15 might come out because the women work just as hard they just don’t get promoted which is bullshit.

Jasonfn22, she has not been signed with the UFC. She has been signed with Strikeforce. Though they are both owned by Zuffa they are two totally different organizations. This means we could see her in UFC events NOT Strikeforce events. IMO, it’s not so minor of a difference. You’re right though, probably just looking for a super fight with Cyborg as the UFC would need to start signing lots of other woman fighters.

Furious that they ruined Strikeforce. I used to go to them regularly and they were great affordable shows. The UFC should have used it as a minor league and taken care to run that organization well. They just crappred on Coker and Shamrock and all they put into Strikeforce.

Rhonda HAS been signed by the UFC. Meisha Tate was signed later as well. It’s no division yet, but they’re working on it. If they get Marloes, Kaufmann, a juice-free Cyborg that could make 135, then they would be well on their way to a good division.

Clemmit is right. Having a female TUF show would help get things rolling. Do you really think the women would be more b!tchy than the men? The men usually, and especially this season, bring a pretty high level of b!itchiness.
