What constitutes the back of the head? It was once explained as the area behind where traditional headphones would sit. If this is truly the case, how could those elbows have been anything other than illegal given that Waterman’s ears where covered up by his arms. If you’re gonna have rules they need to be well defined and then vigorously enforced… otherwise why don’t we just return to the bad old days of boring, no holds barred MMA.

hey BIG john just put out a press release about this not to long ago back of the head def. for you draw a line down the middle of the head specifically the back of the head for those who are confused, where the spine meets the skull for instance, anyways one inch on either side of middle line down back of head. none of this fucking headphones shit. those strikes were clearly to the side of the head. peace

Imagine wearing headphones everything in the area rear of the headphone is considered “back of the head” these are the rules. The elbows, watch again were right behind the ears and back. Waterman’s head was facing down there was no way you could execute a down ward elbow and go around the back of the head to the side. Its just body mechanics, you can’t. You can whip a punch around as many fighters do to hit the side of the head. The only way those would be legal blows if Waterman was facing left. But he wasn’t.
