That soccer kick at the end was both a thing of beauty and a tragic mistake by the ref. Huerta was done on his feet. The fight should have been stopped.
I know it’s a sport and gratuitous violence will not further the MMA crusade for acceptance, but the vale-tudo fighter in me just loves this sh*t!

I got into watching MMA, because of soccer kicks and knees to downed opponents. Seeing highlights of Wanderlei were so exciting. I still pull up HLs of old pride fights to see soccer kicks and stomps. With that said, though, this was too much for me. That was devastating. Soccer kicks do not belong in a cage where you could possibly be trapped against the fence, they’re better suited for a ring (i.e. Shogun/Rampage).

I’m confused, are kicks to the head of a grounded opponent illegal in this organization? The ref said “no kick” but he did and still won the fight. Should it be a no contest?

The referee should have stop the fight before the soccer kick, huerta was pretty much out on his feet and his instinct was trying to escape on a crawling position the “unified rules” way.

Kick was uncalled for. Fight should have been stopped way before it got to that point. However, if that is legal in this org then it’s fair game. Blame the ref, not the fighter.

Hmm…different culture different rules? Strange how when Roger got into that street fight outside an LA club I recall he dropped a late knee on a downed opponent. This seems to instigate street instinct and diminishes the “sport” of fighting.

It’s sad to see this happen. I’m all for following the rules of the organization but this was clearly unnecessary. Roger was done at that point and why the fight wasn’t stopped, I have no idea. Hope this doesn’t happen again for One FC’s sake
