Stupid strategy by Gracie. Take him to the ground you idiot. Why BJJ studs try to stand is beyond me.

That said, King Mo is a second rate fighter. He was trying to pull an Anderson Silva with his hands low. He would get his a** kicked by any good UFC fighter.

Pope Says, in 9-11-2011 at 00:00:31 from

sweet headbutt to start off the combo by king mo. im sure almost everyone is disappointed when king mo wins

Yes, bad strategy for sure. Isn’t the Gracie BJJ main principal to not stand and trade but to close the gap to negate a better striker or stronger opponent? He should have pressure Mo for the clinch or kept him up against the cage. Reach doesn’t help if you’re not a great striker…Stick to your strengths.

Iconoclast Says, in 9-11-2011 at 00:14:38 from

That was really pretty terrible. Looks like Mo knew that he just needed to throw one punch over and over, and Gracie would eventually stumble into it.

kaution187 Says, in 9-11-2011 at 00:15:41 from

Damn what I wouldnt pay to see Rampage or Evans put this guy out. Every sucky win he has he thinks he did something. Naw. Please give him to the UFC 205s Dana…please.

Savage Says, in 9-11-2011 at 00:17:55 from

called that from the first 10 seconds of that fight…nonetheless i believe it was a headbutt that started that off

Pecker Says, in 9-11-2011 at 00:27:47 from

if you’re tall and gifted with reach advantage please learn some boxing…Mo was standing in front of him with his hands low and Gracie didn’t do F*** cause his doesn’t know F*** about boxing
ugly spectacle but great ko

man i hate when this guy wins

madona Says, in 9-11-2011 at 00:33:31 from

Henderson vs King Mooo would have the reverse effect.

Scottc Says, in 9-11-2011 at 00:37:49 from

Another Gracie who can’t take a punch.

straightAhead Says, in 9-11-2011 at 00:56:05 from

You guys who hate on Mo are such n00bs and l00sers its not even funny any more.

Clearly Mo was getting his timing and range down in the early part of that fight. After being off for so long i don’t blame him. If you noticed as soon as there was 30 seconds left he switched gears and proceeded to light up Roger in quick fashion.

Stop hatin. No doubt Mo was happy because the fight turned out like he planed. Also, what opportunity did Roger have to take Mo down??? You all forget that Mo is a world class wrestler and this makes him very difficult to take down so what were you guys expecting?

As I said before: I love Roger and BJJ in general but a world class wrestler with good sub defense can beat a world class BBJ fighter 9 times out of 10. That’s just modern MMA.

wEz Says, in 9-11-2011 at 01:05:46 from

Is this really a surprise? I saw this as a first round ko for Mo when the fight was signed. His striking is way better along with his strength. Even if Roger got the fight to the ground, I don’t believe it would have been a slam-dunk sub. Roger is in MMA for the money, not because he loves the sport and the contact. King Mo on the other hand, is a blue-collar MMA guy. I’ll take an MMA guy who likes to strike with a wrestling base any day over a BJJ champion who doesn’t really love MMA.

Boss Rutten Says, in 9-11-2011 at 01:07:08 from

that was a cute princess tiara that mo put on after the fight

Dave Says, in 9-11-2011 at 01:26:25 from

no s*** u moron, really, it hurts, hm…

sterling Says, in 9-11-2011 at 03:38:04 from

Everyone saying he should have taken him down is missing the fact that King Mo almost definitely has better takedown defense than Roger has offense. It was really unfortunate that the headbutt helped the knockout.

SomeBloke Says, in 9-11-2011 at 03:59:53 from

O_o huh…have to be honest, I thought Gracie would wait and then grind him down to a late submission! Hat off to Mo…

Good job King MO!! Gracie coulda woulda shoulda but didnt. Gracie was confident in his standup skills and got schooled. Mo took a lesson from the Spider he felt him out then took him out. If Mo moves to the UFC he might not be in the top 5 but he is a solid top 10 fighter and he is improving. He has the skills to pay the bills. Go King MO!!

murell Says, in 9-11-2011 at 09:36:52 from

king mo vs Rampage, that would be a barn burner.

Op_of_Faith Says, in 9-11-2011 at 10:36:24 from

Ok…someone inform me on this one…WHY do people hate on King Mo so much? I don’t know much about him but he doesn’t seem any worse than anyone else out there…

I have to admit…I take GREAT pleasure in seeing a Gracie BBJ guy losing to hands-all the s*** they talked in the late 90′s about how every fight goes to the ground and how they could take punches…funny. It was BS then. It still is…you have to be well rounded as a fighter, period.

yourmomsucks Says, in 9-11-2011 at 10:39:12 from

Dharmaboy Says, in 9-11-2011 at 10:50:20 from

bodylock Says, in 9-11-2011 at 10:53:06 from

Keep hatin on King Mo morons, he’s only goin up

KungFuLowKick Says, in 9-11-2011 at 12:55:17 from

Guys even if Mo would’ve probably stuffed the takedown,Roger still never even tried to take it to the ground.I dont nkow if the BJJ guys want to prove theirselves in MMA,so they dont use their bjj at all and get KTFO….Would James Toney ever shoot an MMA fighter??So why the F*** does great BJJ guys always stand-up and never try to shoot. You deserve brain damage when you fight with no gameplan.Anyways brain damage wont make him dumber then he already is.

Even if he wouldnt take Mo to the ground easily he should try.By not grappling with MO he chose the get knocked out

PitFighterZ Says, in 9-11-2011 at 13:32:23 from

This wasn’t even fun at all… funny, but no fun.
Gracie will be destroyed by any decent striker if that’s how he will fight.
Mo is better than some people here are saying, just not great. He’s a typical wrestler with a power punch, which always makes him dangerous against anyone who is not fast or strong enough. Against Gracie’s amateurish striking, it’s a joke.

wow Says, in 9-11-2011 at 13:38:26 from

Who the F*** taught Roger Gracie how to box. That was terrible.

cupOteaGov Says, in 9-11-2011 at 14:15:54 from

Could see that coming a mile away, shame I like Roge he’s a nice guy, just needs to work his stand up.

trousersnake Says, in 9-11-2011 at 15:46:56 from

glass chin. very bad recovery. Roger is an ok fighter. But no Strikeforce/UFC level. His game is worldclass BJJ.

Dan Blankenship Says, in 9-11-2011 at 15:58:12 from

i stared at this message board for 5 minutes and can’t think of anything to say bout this fight, except WTH was that

Tsagoii Says, in 9-11-2011 at 18:27:23 from

Normal fight. R Gracie may have waited a little to long with his chess opening :-)

Just like chess, you pick the wrong opening or if you wait too long before opening up your strong pieces, you might never get the opportunity, and if you do, it might be too late.

In Roger’s case, maybe he thought of catching Mo with that arm down, to teach him not to do stuff like that.

Who knows…

Not much punches were landed on Mo’s side, so I think Gracie didn’t had time to feel the need to close that gap, no pain, let’s play a little more.

But either that fisrt punch of the combo on the back of the head started to phase him, (it did not seem powerful, at the end of his reach), or that headbutt may have hurt him. Gracie seemed hurt and started to bring his guard down before the power shot to the side of the head.

Muay Thai or Boxing drills at the camp might help?

1- King Mofo is boring as hell and a mediocre fighter who fought a less than mediocre fighter.
2- the plastic crown? hmm looks a bit gayish to me
3- This gracie dude is lucky to carry the name gracie, otherwise he should change job asap.
Lesson is, the name does not make you a fighter…

wcoastassassin Says, in 9-11-2011 at 22:37:34 from

Yes, that was definetely a fricken tiara. Neither of these fighters are even close to UFC caliber. Thanks for posting Bruno, I am going to miss Strikeforce!

kuelniss Says, in 9-12-2011 at 06:48:18 from

There was no way that slight headbutt had any significant effect in the KO, as is obvious if you look at Gracie’s motion/reaction immediately after. He only slightly moved backward, but as soon as King Mo landed that right, he was floored. What a bunch of haters on here, some people just can’t be objective.

muushu Says, in 9-16-2011 at 18:33:57 from

yeah as soon as he landed that right to the back of the head of a grounded opponent. horrible fight horrible competitors horrible bs KO.
