What is with the fans in the US? not even 30 seconds into the fight and they’re booing the fighters…plebians of such nature shouldnt be allowed to attend mma events as quite clearly they have no clue!

Shame the fight ended the way it did, Kudos to both fighters, had it gone all the way i would have backed Lawler.

this is what i was afraid of, something so pure gets dirty ass money involved and bullshit and idiots screw it up for the real fans. almost every fight had early stoppage, the camera angels were crap, and the best fight got stopped by a doctor who doesn’t understand the sport. Anything new jersey touches is garbage anyway. 1st round these guys are showing each other respect and feeling each other out and they get booed, trash jersey retards should stick to wwe. these guys put on a show that i felt robbed of as i’m sure they did. it was hands down fight of the night. then the announcer and i don’t mean frank said the crowd is use to exciting boxing matches, what the hell is he talking about 80’s tyson fights? I agree that those fans were stupid for booing, the fighters were feeling each other out. This fight had plenty action and Smith was robbed. I don’t know if he would’ve won, but he should’ve been able to continue, he seemed fine. I want to know what would have happened had it not been stopped like that.

He deserves a rematch.

Really? and who do you think they were booing in rounds 1 & 2, the ring girls?

Allow me to draw your attention to the first 30 or so seconds into the fight where the fighters were feeling each other out.

Perhaps it might also do you some good reading some of the comments your fellow co-posters have made who also mention the non-appreciative fans!

jersey sucks. Average American fans are new at this so they don’t understand how a real fight between 2 guys that have the skills to destroy one another starts. Keep in mind that we haven’t had a combat sport in this country since lennox lewis was boxing. And even then it was lame. There are many American fans out there who knew what was going on (feeling out, Gina’s gogoplata) and also knew enough to not waste our time going over the bridge into that godforsaken hellhole to watch this mockery. Some of the fights were good, the ladies being the best imo. Plus it was KIMBO SLICE’S coming out party FFS. Who did you think was going to buy tickets? Intelligent, well schooled, MMA fans? Very disappointing… Scott Smith got robbed, anything still could of happened at that point in the fight. The Dr. was horrible…I don’t think she realizes how hard they train to get to where there at.

Jonno – I take it back. I should be the one paying more attention. I thought you commented on the fans booing the decision/doctor stoppage, not the consistent boo’s during the beginning of the fight.

I agree that the boo’ing is uncalled for, especially feeling out stages of a fight. I don’t agree that this is just relegated to fights in the US. I’ve watched MMA bouts live in the states and in Canada. I’ve watched countless Pride fights in Japan and Vale Tudo in Brazil…and fans don’t just boo in the U.S. when there isn’t action.

I blame EliteXC rather than true MMA fans in the US. I think the people attending this attraction weren’t MMA fans at all..just there to watch the Kimbo hype. Personally, I’d rather watch a strategic ADCC match than a flashy KO.

I agree my comment was a broad generalisation of the fans in the US, and would therefore like to retract it…as you quite rightly point out that booing fans aren’t confined to the US.
Here in England we also have our fair share of idiots attending MMA events! However, this isnt helped by having a ring announcer dressed in a pimps uniform (Cage Rage).

It’s not about being qualified… It was said after the fight that the Dr. stopped because Scott said he couldn’t see, not in the sense that he couldn’t continue the fight… but in the sense that he needed his 5 minutes to recover. As I’m sure most everyone on here has been poked in the eye a time or two, you would be well aware that your eyes tear up and will burn/sting for a few minutes. The Dr. misunderstood him and stopped the fight. The only time I could imagine a fight being stopped due getting poked in the eye, is if the eye was bleeding or had a significant amout of damage.
