Sorry now that I got first post lol, … It was a good win against a bigger opponent and a guy who many feel is a top 5 185 pounder in the world (i don’t agree with at all). That being said Shields should still fight at 170 and he’s one of the best at 170. That also being said if he fought GSP he’d get his ass handed to him quiet quickly. His stand up looked ok but not dangerous and there is no way he’d be submitting GSP as easy as he did Lawler

Shields is a very good fighter, but boy is he fucking stiff on his feet. No head movement, he has a bad KO coming soon if he doesn’t fix that.

He doesn’t have bad speed, he just needs to loosen up and move.

shields toom quite a beating trying to get lawyer down. i was expecting lawyer to be more aggressive during that. good gameplan of shielsds to make lawyer think that after the firsst takedown attempt he would just stand and trade. id love to see thiago alves vs robbie lawyer though that would be a war.

this was a solid card, with good matchups. hopefully strikeforce can hang in there so the UFC does not hold the monoply on employment for fighters.

Looked like the fighters were having trouble getting good footing on what looks to be a very slippery, soft mat. This was a big advantage for Shields. And Lawler looked drugged, lethargic, and ready to lose – a big difference from the aggressive animal he’s been in past fights. Fixed?

You guys need to relax with the fighter bashing, seems to exist too much in combat sports.
I’m not a fan of Lawler and his strategy was to stand and trade and snuff the takedowns which he did, but to be caught in what looked like an arm in guillotine was quite poor..you could tell from his reaction he wasn’t happy with that. Jake Shields has great BJJ, say what you want about his striking (which i agree needs improvement) but he finished that beautifully. And for all the people saying he wont get in the UFC because hes one dimensional, i can name you at least 5 fighters in the UFC that are one dimensional but win fights and get nice pay days.

The dude has a very limited set of strengths but is perfect for this level of competition. Shields needs to train his stand up, or he will be in the same boat before he knows it.
