Another fight video from the original Pride event. MMA legend Rickson Gracie versus Japanese wrestling legend Nobuhiko Takada.
This was Takada’s first true MMA fight. In Japan Takada is a superstar in the fighting world even though he only has a 2-6-2 record. His only major win came against Mark Coleman at Pride 5 and many think that was a fixed match. His best showing by far was a well fought bout against Mirko Cro-Cop at Pride 17 where they fought to a draw.

Rickson was a legend in Rio de janeiro,He’s 10 years older then me,when I was a kid he was THE guy around all the other fighters,He beated them all,and EVERYBODY was afraid to fight with him.
No way is he even close to best ever, not even top 50 probley, the only people he ever fought were bumbs really, he had maybe 2 real fighters that he fought against. So Yeah he might be good, but not that great to be the best you have to beat the best. And he didn’t beat any of the best.
Boring Rickson would have gotten knocked out if Takada did any real kind of stricking with Ricksons hands down the way they were
I don’t believe the 400-0 fight record but it’s hard to discredit people like paulo filho and i think nog when they say even at in his old age he’s the best grappler they’ve ever rolled with.

There’s no doubt Gracie is a legend of hs time, but MMA has evolved so much that I can’t imagine him being close to the best ever. His chin was so high in the air it’s unreal, and there’s no wy to justify that. I decent fighter today would have had a real chance to catch him on the chin. To be considered the best ever I think you must be well rounded, that’s why 10 years from now GSP will be considered the greatest!

I think Rickson Gracie was one of the best IN HIS TIME because only the Gracies have a well developed system to fight in the ground, and that give them an edge over all the other fighters.
After all the other fighters began to understand and train in ground fighting the edge don´t exist anymore, and that´s the reason they aren´t the champions anymore, still good fighters but not the best.
Why didn’t Rickson fight better opponents?
First of all he isn’t even tired. Second most of his fights aren’t recognized by some people because they were more underground before Vale Tudo was commercially recognized. Question him all you want, but you will never be able to find anything that disproves that he is one of the best ever.
