Great performance by Rich. The potential fights that he could have down the line at 205 are endless and any combination of him an any top tier 205 would be a big draw for the UFC.

i think if he wouldve worked on his boxing a little bit more, it would of ended differently, but who knows.
compared to his other fights, hamill didnt seem 100%.
i thought hamill was a tank, and he got dropped by body kick.

Great fight, but I really wish the commentators were speaking english… wtf did the ref stop the fight for in round 2? They looked at franklins eye… but he wasnt bleeding, he didnt even get hit. Good breather for both fighters. I’m surprised hamill didn’t take the victory from the groin kick, he knew damned well he wasn’t going to win this fight. And he wouldn’t have suffered from broken rib(s). Hamill looked like he was trying to survive from beginning to end. Franklin has some amazing and consistant leg kicks.

very nasty cut. only has three loses(two against a world class fighter so no shame in that no matter how he lost compared to others), still an amazing fighter, and always improving. especiall with those damn leg kicks. jesus. he’s been using those more and more since losing to anderson silva. i still want rich to give it a third try to beat silva ONLY if he faces machida and beats him. rich is not the same fighter as when machida beat him, so that will be his ultimate test. i’d pay alot to see that rematch…then maybe a third fight to seal the deal.

i also believe he’s been watching some silva tape considering he’s doing the same shit silva does with capitalizing on everyone’s mistakes. he who beats you makes you wiser? who knows.

Matt Hamills corner and trainers should be ashamed of themselves or whoever the hell thought up the game plan against Rich Franklin. Let’s see, hmmmm Matt is a wrestler and Rich is a striker so I think our game plan should be to try and win by striking. How ridiculous. Although ground and pound is boring, Matt Hammill should of taken double legs every round and never ever let Rich up. I don’t care if it would of been boring or not, he would of at least had a chance to win. Rich’s face will never ever be the same after the destruction at the hands of Anderson Silva. The scar tissue over his eyes opens very easily therefore he faces stoppages in every fight he will be in. Its hard to say what the future holds for these two.

Wasn’t Matt Hamill supposed to be the best fighter on his season of TUF before he got injured? To be honest he hasn’t been impressing me lately.

All these “great wrestlers” think they can come into the octagon and be the next Randy Couture. They think they can control an opponent for 3 or 5 rounds and hopefully get a decision. Well you know what? MOST OF THE TIME THAT MAKES FOR A BORING FIGHT!

I think that these wrestlers need to REALLY work on getting better at BJJ and boxing otherwise their fights will continue to be boring and they won’t have as many fans because of their lack of an ability to finish fights.

This includes:
Matt Hamill, Brock Lesnar, Josh Koscheck, and many more.

It’s not called MMA for nothing.

I don’t see franklin having a future at 205. he won’t beat the top guys, rashad, wanderlei, rua even lyoto. The logical move for him is if Dana convinces Silva to move to 205 so Franklin can go back to 185. Silva has cleaned out his division, he should move up. He has the tools to beat all the top guys at 205.

Matt Hamill looked poor because he was outclassed by a better fighter in Franklin. Just because you beat up Michael Bisping dont make you a an elite fighter. As a result of this and TUF, people thought Hamill was the real deal. Even Bisping new he was going to hammered by the top 205′ers sooner or later, coz he got beat up a lesser fighter in Hamill. Hence, Bisping dropped down a class. Franklin has a chance at 205 to be champ again (don’t laugh ’cause no one really expected evans to ko liddell..)

This is probably one of the quietest crowds I have ever heard in a UFC show. Hamill was hurt, but I think I agree with some of you and think he just wanted out of the fight.

Poor Matt…
I really like the guy, but he got out-classed in the stand-up. Notice Rich was stringing together combo after combo, while Matt was simply throwing slow heavy punches - and even these were few and far between.
Matt should have stuck to his strength: his wrestling. He took Rich down easily on the first attempt and gave him problems.
Matt has much to learn by the looks of it and it was plain to see after round 2 he was unhappy with himself.

It wasn’t that Hamill was fighting so badly, but rather that Franklin was fighting so WELL.

I predicted that Franklin would be vastly better than Hamill on his feet, but he looked better than that, his standup was amazing.

Hamill would have liked to take it to the ground, but the one time he did get there, Franklin maneuvered quickly and got back on his feet after almost securing an arm bar.

Hamill simply was not at the same level.

Orionthekiwi, dude, Hamill was Tito’s first choice cause tito wanted to make hamill the winner of TUF 4. he had an advantage in nothing but wrestling but matt likes to strike and tito said that matt’s striking was not good at all that he needed a lot of training, mat went into the TUF with no professional fights and the first time he ever got hit was by Kendall Grove during team ortiz (punishment) training.. and so for starting fighting not too long ago matt has improved a lot, obviously rich is an awesome fighter and a legend pretty much, but you have got to give hamill credit for lasting that long in the octagon with franklin.

after the first few kicks Mark should have corrected his take down approach. He kept setting himself up for the kick during his approach and Rich kept delivering it. Nice job by Rich.

Kevin… I totally agree with all of wut u said. Hamill was just laying on the ground not defending himself. Anyone who practices mma knows that if u take a kick like that to the body your done. Hamill probably wouldnt be able to fight if you gave him weeks.saying that it was an early stop is retarded. The end of the fight was a bit disappointing…it didn’t look like the kick landed quite as hard as Hamill made it look. I think he was just exhausted and a solid body shot was either just one leg kick too many or a good excuse to call it a night.

KieranMac — see above comments. That was a nicely-landed liver shot. If you hit somebody on the bottom part of their ribs on their right side, it can be pretty devastating because of the jolt to the liver. See the end of De la Hoya vs. Hopkins for a good example of that.

I felt sorry for Hamil but Rich is a great fighter. I don’t think he is passed his prime. Things just got very competitive in the UFC. Now Franklin will have to face more crazy competition. I have a feeling we’ll be hearing about a preexisting injury or something in the next couple of days. I find it hard to believe this was just a poor game plan. Hamill kept going for these lame single leg (single ankle) takedowns. What’s up with that? He wasn’t even attacking the hips. It doesn’t take a world class wrestler to know that you can’t take somebody down by grabbing a single knee, especially someone with that kind of balance. Yes, Franklin has great takedown defense, but he never really used it. How many times did you see a sprawl or a real clinch? When a wrestler of that caliber is attached to you the way Hamill was a couple of times in R1, you’re going exactly where he wants you to go. For some reason, he didn’t want it to go to the ground. I don’t have a hypothesis, but this fight was very uncharacteristic of Matt Hamill.

Exactly as expected. Hammill Couldn’t get him down and couldn’t keep him down when he got him down once. Hammill is over rated big time.

Top tier fighters don’t let him do the “hey look im gonna hold the back of your head and throw short upper cuts to your face” thing. Doesn’t really work.

Sure, it didn’t break a rib or anything, but I’m sure it knocked the wind out of him and he probably couldn’t even breathe. I’m not a Hamill fan, but he’s a tough kid and I doubt he would ever just give up unless he really couldn’t continue. Remember when he was on TUF? He wanted to fight in the semi-finals even though he couldn’t move one of his arms. He was just out classed by a more experienced and skilled Franklin.

hamill did amazing i thought! that was no sissy kick that ended the fight… would have knocked any of your asses out.

any way… hamills boxing was great 2. only problem was franklins was better. franklins a more seasoned fighter.. more experiance and confidence. franklin winning was no suprise.

Expect to see hamill moving up… maybe even holding a belt some day.
