You’re right that it was ‘good’ for the UFC to have Cung Le win, but no way in hell was Rich bombing this fight. He went in to win, and got caught.

This is just a lesson in defence. I watched the fight having seen this gif. This was the third or fourth time Rich threw that right leg kick like that with his left hand dropping as he threw, and Cung only just missed with his counter a few times. Cung Le showed good patience, timing and precision to get this KO.
