UFC 90 Fight Video of Rich Clementi Vs. Gray Maynard. The MMA event took place at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill.
stupid fans, stupid ref.
great wrestling by Maynard.
Good takedowns by Maynard…
snoozer indeed!
man the crowd sucks
What’s up with those fans in Chicago? Not every fight in the UFC is a stand up striking battle. A true fan can appreciate the ground game, that goes same for the ref.
It was so good to see Clementi get owned! He’s always playing head games with his opponenets but didn’t have the talent in this case to back it up…when he gets on Anderson Silva’s level and wants to toy with an opponent for a few rounds, fine, but right now he needs to show some respect..great win for Gray Maynard!
Looking at the playbar at the end of Rd.1, realizing it was gonna go to decision I prepared for a letdown. But the fight was actually fun to watch. I’ve never been a fan of the grinder style. Taking people down and holding them there and waiting on a decision isn’t really a victory in my book. That being said, I was impressed with the footwork and head movement by both men. The ground work was far from shabby for both of them as well.
What the hell ass balls are the crowd booing for? Two grapplers with mad skills constantly one-uppnig each other for fifteen minutes – what on earth could these guys want? It’s MMA, not kickboxing.
The ref needs to take a few lessons from Big John McCarthy. Having a three-second stalemate on the ground DOES NOT MEAN they’re stalling. Again, he’s not refereeing kickboxing.
What an idiot referee.
There wasn’t anything really special about this fight in my opinion. There were some great transitions though, but you could clearly tell that both fighters irritated by the others ability to prevent them from doing anything really productive. Greg Maynard merely over powered the older Clementi, and clearly deserved the victory for it. As he gains some more experience, Maynard will be a welcome addition to the lightweight division.
typical talented wrestler with little finishing ability. he’s got a lot of work to do, but sky’s the limit.
What’s the problem with that referee he just keep saying “let’s go men” .. They were fighting mma is not just kick and punches it is also ground techniques. That referee is a dumb!!
I’ve slowly become a fan of Rich because he backs up his words with his fights. Melvin Guillard….case in pt. Yeah…this fight wasn’t the most exciting…..but those of you who have grappled with a strong wrestler can attest to how well Rich was able to transition and attempt for submissions and keep away from real trouble…..for those who haven’t….they just wouldn’t understand it and consequently boo……too bad…..there’s stuff to appreciate there. Nevertheless, it could have been nice to see a little more stand up and somebody getting popped and wobbly……that always makes for some extra excitement!
hahahhahah in the end of the fight, when gray is talking to rogan, they show maynards new record aand they gave him the lost. it says (6-1-1) lololololol funny! but great fight i guess
I agree with the fans. Very boring fight!!
They both didnt try to finish the fight. Every time maynard took him down he couldnt do ne thing so he should of stood up and banged but hes a pussys with no heart! im glad i didnt order this payper view!!
p.s. Ive seen chicks fight harder than that!!!
gay maynard is using the deadly technique called the blanket. he lies on you and puts every fan to sleep, thanks for helping me cure my insomnia mr. maynard.
how long before he gets a title shot?
I appreciate the entire game of MMA and can appreciate a good wrestling battle. But I can stand when the wrestle just takes the opponent down for the sake of it. When they just lay there and attempt nothing. There was opportunities throughout the fight for Maynard to land shots while on the ground on attempt subs but he didnt. And I hate to say it because it annoys me when these poser fans claim it…but that was boring. I want to watch MMA!!
If Rich can’t stop that takedown he will never be a champ in this weight class.
One boring ass fight…. It’s sad that this fight came down to takedowns!!
this ref is a douchebag!
Clementi stated in an interview that Joe Silva was surprised that he wanted to fight Gray because to NO ONE wanted to face the guy. He has dominate wrestling, serious power and speed in his hands and he trains with the best. I believe Maynard is a future champ at 155.
Oh my god! Maynard is awful. He is did nothing. That was a wrestling match to him you idiots. Finish the fight for god’s sake. Clementi is still a much better fighter IMO. Gray Maynard stunk up the joint like they all do when they’re trying to squeak out a win in the UFC. I respect wrestling but I’m not paying to watch it!!!! Do something after the control. Grappling? Please. That was just lack of skill to move for the finish and fear of getting submitted by Clementi. GRAY MAYNARD IS GARBAGE! Yet he may hold down enough people to be champ. Keep praising fighters like him and Dan Miller and we’re screwed. MORONS!
…. after reading the comments, im not even going to watch. Usually I want to see with my own eyes, but these guys both have the “blanket style” J_satan_666 referred too. All the good fights have already been sniffed out and removed. SO huge bummer for me. But yeah, ground game, I get it. This isnt kickboxing, so no it shouldn’t be stand up from beginning to end. But this isnt highschool wrestling either. Every fighter should have the ability to FINISH the fight before the judges do. Most fights go to the ground, yeah yeah, but when they get their, something should happen. Especially if you’re making a lot of money and hundreds of thousands if not millions of people were watching. If I was in the crowd, id boo, too. And if the guy next to me didnt like it, Id kick him in the head.
Boring ass fight. I appreciate a great ground battle. But can’t stand a wrestler that just takes down his a opponent and controls him to pull off a decision. There are many excellent ground fighters in the UFC, which are very exciting to watch. Diaz is a good up and commer at 155. I found it funny when Maynard said he would’ve liked a little more stand up. Well here’s a clue; stop taking him down and exchange!
n 10-26-2008 at 14:09:45 from 69.226.64.48 p.s. Ive seen chicks fight harder than that!!!
I have to agree, seen some great female fighters that I’d rather watch over boring ass Maynard any day.
the ol lay n pray
I read the first few comments and had some hope for the future of the sport…then all the ignorant, “boring”, “lay n pray” and “I like ground game, but…” To the guys that have never fought or have a poor imagination, these fighters were in excellent shape and trying to win, it was an awesome fight. Ref is a fuckwit, and that goes for anyone booing. This sport will fast become a toughman contest (So Kimbo may have a future?)
that crowd did suck. it wasnt the most exciting fight, but how many new comers can demolish a vet? he didnt get a k.o or a sub, but he dominated the whole w/ wrestling alone. truly a great fighter. f that crowd maynard nothin to be ashamed of at all.
Good fight, crowd was expecting hollywood movie style non-stop action or something… I guess everyone doesn’t understand all the aspects of MMA fighting, the ground game is part of it.
LOL at the ref saying ‘let’s go men…(20 seconds later)… let’s go’. I was like ok ref ease up already, let them battle it out sheesh! I agree with one of the posters above who said he needs lessons from Big John McCarthy. Good fight though, Gray looks like he’s getting better in my opinion.
My main problem with this bout was the awful officiating by Todd Frederickson . I am tired of referees constantly barking at the fighters to keep it moving or threaten to stand them up when there is no need for either to have been said. It seemed as if Frederickson had a nervous tic of shouting, “let’s go men” and his threats of standing this fight up were completely without merit as both fighters were more than advancing their position while on the ground.
What I did notice is that the fans were booing, and far too often it seems as if the referees hear the boos from the crowd and attempt to somehow take matters into their own hands as a way of appeasing the restless fans. Can you imagine if a referee of an NFL game decided to enter the huddle and tell the men to begin passing the ball more? Referees are there to enforce the rules and ensure a fair fight is taken place and beyond this their really is no need for a referee to ever take any attention away from the fighters. This seemed like Frederickson was unhappy in being the third man inside the Octagon while the boos were raining down; this appeared to make him nervous and as such led to him constantly barking at the fighters and trying to get involved.
If I could tell this one referee to “do something”, it would be for him to do his job and simply stay out of the way. MMA takes place on the ground and on the feet and fighters who are at an advantage in one area should not be put at a disadvantage because their style may seem a little boring. Referees seem way to eager to stand the fighters up and separate them for my tastes and this is one problem I have had recently with officiating in MMA. Some fights are going to be boring in much the same way that every NFL game isn’t a 45-41 tilt-a-whirl of touchdowns and celebrations. To me this fight wasn’t boring but did drag in places and this was more due to the fighters calculating their risks than anything else. This was a solid if unspectacular fight which was a good win for Gray Maynard but was marred by the annoyance of referee Todd Frederickson.
wut is this refs problem. After watching this video I think they just let anybody off the street apply for ref position. someone needs to school this ref on what MMA is about.
