Renato Babalu Sobral Has Been Released From His UFC Contract

Because of the his actions during his UFC 74 bout against David Heath, Babalu Sobral was released from his UFC contract. Dana White again brought up on his Thursday conference call that it would of been worse had Babalu had Heath by an arm, leg or ankle. Dana said the fans turned against him and said he is severed from his contract and out of the company due to his actions.

Sobral’s future outside the Octagon will be determined Friday, that’s when the NSAC meets for a hearing in Las Vegas. At that time the issue of Sobral’s refusal to comply with Steve Mazzagatti will be heard.

Babalu should be suspended from ufc for one year,and then return, and he should not be banned, because he is a great fighter that made a mistake, and if the ufc is bound to grow as a sport ufc needs Babalu and other great fighters.

The UFC doesn’t need Babalu to grow as a sport, they’re already blowing up! He should be banned though, probably permenantly from the UFC, let him go fight somewhere else. He’s not that great that the UFC needs him back. He’ll never win the light-heavyweight bealt anyway. I seriously doubt anyone will want to fight him if he can’t control himself!

What he did was inexcusable. A permanent ban seems harsh but not entirely unfair. Non the lease, the ufc doesn’t need him and I won’t miss seeing him fight ever. Johnny is right, he will never win the light heavyweight belt anyways.

Babalu should be released for being just plain dumb. The guy is given a couple of title shots and can’t seal the deal. He has showed up in lackluster condition lately and hasn’t been the top caliber fighter he once was.

This guy had an altercation in Florida that could of prevented him from fighting this card in the first place. Given that the UFC has brought in a lot of top shelf Light Heavy Weights from Pride, his declining performance and questionable conduct he should be kissing ass and working his ass off to stay in the UFC. He is a total moron who doesn’t know how to manage his career and I am glad this idiot is gone. Good riddance!

I don’t think Babalu should be completely banned either. What he did was wrong and he should be severely punished but completely ending his career? Future fighters will know about this incident and they can decide for themselves whether they want to face him in the cage or not. Not to mention, if you stick him back in the cage, that’s just the place for him to get a dose of his own medicine.

He should be completely banned because that conduct is just not acceptable. After the fight he even said he did it to teach him a lesson. Thats not something you should say after being booed out of the octagon. He can go fight somewhere else the UFC doesn’t need him anyway. And the reason they kept Mike Tyson around is because he actually did something for the sport and he could hold a title and bring more fans to boxing. Babalu hasn’t done anything for the UFC.

UFC needs to put its foot down on this issue and ban Babalu. With MMA’s growth in popularity, it is also coming under increased scrutiny for safety concerns and brutality. If a fighter does not obey the ref at any time during the fight, it creates a tremendous safety issue.

Babalu shouldn’t be permanently banned from UFC. He is a fantastic fighter. I find the comments about him never getting the belt irritating for the fact that 80% of the other fighters will never get the belt either (Chuck will never again, Tito, Bisping, Evans, etc). Should we bother with these fighters? I don’t look for champions in the UFC, I look for great fights. Babalu may have clamped the choke for an extra four seconds, but Tito has done far more unsportsman-like things. Babalu is truly one of the best at 205, and only a newbie would deny that. Chuck didn’t make him famous. Beating Horn, Shogun, and going full time with Emilianenko to decision made him famous. Dana White needs to be relieved of his power trip and bring back Babalu. If White decides to stop being a prick, we may even get to see Frank Shamrock who is (without question) the best fighter.

Sutherland.. i’m no noobie to fighting.. babalu is not one of the best at 205 and who knows chuck might get the belt and same with Tito.. It was unsportsmanlike conduct that should not be tolerated.. he will never be a champion anyways if he was one of the best at 205 then he would be.. so whose the noobie now? think before you say stupid things like that. He looked the ref in the eyes and still didn’t let go, he nodded his head as he was choking him and still didn’t let go.. he was a good fighter don’t get me wrong but none of his fights were that well fought anyways. And honestly Frank Shamrock is a little to old now hes no Randy Couture..

Dana only used this incident as a good excuse to release him of his contract because Babalu sucks!!! His skill has deteriated for awhile now. Dana doesn’t care if fighters get crazy in the octagon, many other fighters have done similar things in the cage. Either good riddance, renato…has lost it.

to clear this up. babalu is a great fight. he want toe to toe with fador. in a great fight. beat sho-gun in a great fight. won 10 fights in a row in the ufc. babalu dammands respect for people his fighting and if you don’t show him that this happins. his a great fighter at 205 better then most not all the 205’s
