Good guys
Remind me not to hang-out in Brazil………..EVER!!!!!
Total Darwinian survival of the fittest!
These guys are the best!
i’d love to sit and have a few beers with those dudes
I know Renzo, hes the coolest guy ever. Hes funny as hell too.
damn im want to smoke a BLUNT with them….
Yeah, Spitboy… I survived 29 years in the same streets as those guys before coming here. The best of times, the worst of times.
Some of the Gracies were real cool guys, some were just little spoiled punks and you could tell them apart pretty quickly.
For a while (about 5 years between 1992 and 1997), all wrestlers and all BJJ guys (not necessarilly the Gracies) in Rio couldn’t even see the other group in the street and they would just start beating the crap out of each other. Mostly in nightclubs, but also in the gym, the beach, the mall, in the middle of the street, wherever!
I used to beat some of them up in underground Vale Tudo fighting, but most of these guys are just completely f@cked up in the head! They were just some stupid gangsters with nothing better to do than bust bars because they couldn’t pick up women.
Well, they helped paying for my education with their faces against my fists… ![]()
Just to be sure I am clear, I am talking about the martial arts gangs in general, not the Gracies.
Thnks Bruno! Awesome film, I love when fighters reminisce. Had no idea Renzo had such a personality. Sounds like Helio was a firecracker too!
Sounds like a rough place to grow up. Reminds me of the stories my dad told me about growing up in Boston. He moved his family out of there because he really didn’t want his children growing up in the same environment.
Boston ain’t shit compare to Brazil
Brazil is the Best
relson looks alot like rorion, u can really tell theyre brothers
boston and brazil don’t compare to the VIETNAM WAR my dad was in
Oh yeah!…. well in MY neighborhood your pets had to wear bullet proof vests. Old ladys roamed the streets in packs armed with assault rifles and just looking for someone who didn’t like Mattlock. Me and my ten brothers had to adopt cats from the animal shelter and cook BBQ em. The police only came through my hood when the donut shop was about to close and they had to take shortcuts. Disabled war veterans would throw half drank bottles of ripple at you if you didn’t give em spare change when they demanded. Ten year old girls would commonly be grandparents. The only grocery store within 20 miles only sold guns, hard alcohol, diapers and ho hos. If you looked too closely in the eye of a prostitute shehe would spray you with projectile acidic HIV laden cooch juice that would melt your flesh to the bone…… Need I say more?
I know this may be a shock for some Americans, but in Rio de Janeiro alone, more people are killed i a year than in all the Vietnam war. So, I am sorry, Don. You daddy got it easy…
Actually, in sheer numbers, very few conflicts and wars in the history of the world compares to the daily death toll of people killed in drug wars in Brazil.
I am not bragging. On the contrary, it’s just a terribly sad and tough reality.
The martial arts gangs I mentioned in the previous post are chicken shit caompared to the well armed drug dealers.
If you want to have a very small idea, watch City of Gods (which happened in the 1970s) and Elite Squad (tropa de elite).
One thing is f’sure, these two dinks could talk and boast about themselves for hours and hours for ever!
monkeys
Man, Relson should have just said he kicks guys asses with his awesomeness. Love his stories, he’s a very humble guy…. you can just tell that he’s a good guy.
@PitfighterZ
Its true man, A friend of mine goes to Brazil regulary and he sees the Flavela’s growing each time he gets there. One person builds a “house” of garbage on a free peice of land, and next thing you know a dozen other “houses” are build on that same piece of land. Citade de Deus is one of my favotite films, because it is so honest and brutaly raw. But it leaves you uncomfortable because its based on a true story and you start to understand how lucky you are for being born in wealty part of the world…Its not a “feelgood” but a very violent film. I would recommend you all to watch it though!
go to india if u wanna see a real ghetto i go every year. they dont even know what a ambulance is man, they leave the dead bodies where they feel for the street pigs to eat. for real…
renzo sounds like he has a small man complex, he is not that good of a fighter either.
I didn’t mean to make my family sound ultra tough. I have heard Brazil is a terrible place to live (sorry). But the stories Relson was telling sound a lot like what I’d heard when I was a kid.
(I’m sure Relson saw much worse things than he talked about in this video.
