Nevada State Athletic Commission will now implement short-notice drug testing on MMA fighters.
In the past the Nevada Athletic Commission has administered steroid and drug testing for licensed fighters and those applying for licenses but they have known well in advance when the test would be given. Testing is performed on contestants on fight night and now the Commission will require licensed fighters and licensing applicants to be tested at other times during the year with fixed times or at random.
Licensees selection for testing will be made in one of three ways:
A. Fighters may be randomly chosen for testing.
B. If there is some indication that a fighter is taking a non-approved substance, they may be tested.
C. If a fighter has previously tested positive for using a non-approved substance, they may be tested.
The Commission will contact a fighter directly and give them details on the ordering of the test and the time frame within which testing must occur. If the test is not completed within the specified time frame or if a fighter fails the test, the Commission can refuse to license the fighter, it may not allow the fighter to compete. Also they are subject to disciplinary action.
