Big Nog is most underrated champ ever. No one ever wants to give him credit for his accomplishements or his amazing fights. Even in the hellish beatings from fedor, he was firing subs until the last bell. No-one will ever come close not sylvia, couture, or arlovski. Their weaks hearts and wills would break.

If you watch pride you will notice that they allow knees to the head while an opponent is down. That is what gives wrestlers an advantage. That is not allowed in the UFC therefore wrestlers have been handicapped and it is simply unfair. Wrestlers have so many positions that they can lock you into and then deliver knees to the head. Just watch Tito Ortiz vs Guy Mezger #1 you will see how to use the inside cradle to deliver knees to the head. It works great in real life situations, better than BJJ.

Rgood, you are right in some respect. Wrestlers are a bit handycapped in top position, however saying that wrestling is better than BJJ in real life situations is not entirely true. Anyone that has grappled knows that if you put a wrestler on their backs they might as well be a turtle. Its not that they don’t possess the ability to be effective from their backs, wrestling just doesn’t emphasis those skills.

Awesome trip down memory lane, I’ve seen all those fights highlighted in this excellent tribute to Pride…I hope for part 3 they show a bit of Anderson Silva….but they already showed some of the top fighters in the history of MMA:
Wanderlei Silva
Fedor
Sakhuraba
Chuck Lidell
Noguera

Thanks again Bruno for posting!!

I really enjoyed this. It really makes me wish the UFC would do this with some of its contenders. So that it could thin out the divisions a bit, but they would never do it because it would be an admission that Pride had a good idea. Plus they would hate to not be able to string out all their fighters into sometimes weak cards. Good post!

The best part of this post was the Lidell vs. Jacksom fight… too bad the film makers edited Dana White making excuses for Chuck getting it handed to him…. hahaha. What a great fight that was. I bet Dana has not done much commentating since that fight…hahaha!

That was the original spirit of mma, not only for money, like dana is doing it, the worst part is when he said that he will keep that spirit, looking for the best fighter of mma in the world of each class, why he still didn“t bring Fedor to the ufc?

I dont know what it is about these pride videos but the music is so loud that you cant even make out what anyone is saying. Im only hearing about 1 of every 50 spoken words. Is this happening to anybody else?

Ive been trying to watch these for DAYS and FINALLY after numerous attempts I can watch it without the music overpowering the dialogue. My computer/internet/speakers must have been out possessed. I thought Dana was behind it.
These videos are beautiful.
Thanks bruno!
